I couldn't manage much Dickens when at school, I found it rambling and dense - probably good training for some of the posters on here.

Yes, partly due to the way the novels were constructed--he was committed to a certain number of once-a-month (usually), or once-a-week installments. I read "Great Expectations" and "Oliver Twist" in grammar school--two of his shorter novels. About a dozen years ago, i decided to read all of his novels (fourteen and a half) within the span of one year. A wonderful project! Most of his books were deliberately discursive (written for monthly magazines), so the plots were often convoluted and contrived, but he always created fascinating and humorous characters. Highly recommended!

But Muslim protestors burning the bible and chanting death to infidels and soldiers is ok, yes?

It's ok....as ever I know you will not answer that and instead just try to berate and call names etc. I am just showing you up for the hypocritical pious old racist that you are.

I was responding to Batman, not you. No it is not ok and I have never said that it is have I?

If I don’t answer you it is because I don’t read many of your posts nowadays. You are either a figment of someone’s imagination or are just batshit crazy. Either way you/Ralph are a waste of time.

By the way, when was the last time that there was a major disturbance in the UK with Muslim protestors burning bibles and chanting death to infidels and soldiers? My bad but I must have missed it.

When I did used to read your posts I don’t recall you being critical of Trump, Farage, Netanyahu etc. You were and are critical of people who criticise those people though. I therefore conclude that you are either on a constant wind up or are just aligned to deeply unpleasant people. Either way you are fully deserving of all the abuse you get.

Ha!! They're a strange bloke, so god help whoever they live with or near.

I think Nick's chasing a 1-2 in the unintentionally funny league though, so it could be all change at the top.

Eminent (American Jewish) actor and singer, Mandy Patinkin, recently gave a very powerful and emotional response in an interview about the situation in the Middle East.

The last sentence is particularly potent.

”I ask Jews to consider what this man Benjamin Netanyahu and his right wing government is doing to Jewish people all over the world. They are endangering not only the State of Israel, which I care deeply about and want to exist, but they are endangering the Jewish population all over the world. To watch what is happening, for the Jewish people to allow this to happen to children and civilians of all ages in Gaza, for whatever reason, is unconscionable and unthinkable.”

”And I ask you Jews everywhere, all over the world, to spend some time alone and think, is this acceptable and sustainable? How could it be done to you and your ancestors and you turn around and do it to someone else?”

Netanyahu and his supporters and enablers would call these comments anti-Semitic. I think most reasonable people with any shred of humanity would say that they are bang on the money.

Not surprised that he likes to talk about his Homeland.

An excellent overview of the Israeli position by Jeremy Bowen. Well worth reading.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3r441zyw27o.amp

I wonder if so many Israelis would support his actions if they were allowed to see the news reports that we are. The chances of a two state solution look zero whilst these extreme views persist.

Spoiler alert - Eyal Berkovic puts in an appearance in the article. He is a TV talk show host now.

The best way to stop the world knowing about the thousands of children you've murdered is to kill the people who report it - Israel is still targeting journalists and medical staff, more murdered today.

The war crimes cannot continue.

Don't you understand, those intensive care patients were a clear and obvious threat to the IDF, lying on their beds with intravenous drips.

Indeed. It comes to something when. killing journalists is deemed to be better for your international reputation than allowing those journalists to report what you're about to do.

Roll up, roll up, to the Biblical theme park. Have your wife turned into a piller of salt, drown Egyptians in the sea, watch children be massacred, see the special Passover crucifixions, recreate the fall of Sofom and Gomorrah, try your strength and see if you too can bring the temple crashing down like Samson, blow on Joshua's trumpet ( but stand well clear of the walls ).

I'm not sure many press will feel safe turning up to that opening, but if they really want to play archeologists how about they dig out some of the dead kids they've just buried under the foundations of the upcoming Trump Gaza luxury resort?

Was in Leeds today and saw a pro Palestine protest. A group of about 30 middle class white women aged between 50 and 75 waving a few Palestine flags and giving out leaflets outside of CBX. It was a bizarre sight if you know Leeds you’ll understand why.

I know the pen is mightier than the sword, but are so many terrorism arrests for holding a piece of cardboard justifiable ?.

It can take a good scrub to get a marker smudge out. Or a good scrub and £5million, if you work in the defence sector.

Using anti-terrorism legislation to suppress dissent was something we were condemning Putin for not that long ago.

The genocide is actually openly acknowledged in the UK parliament and it's portrayed differently to how it's reported in the press.

One MP (Stephen Burgon) stood up and asked how it is morally justified to not to put the same sanctions on Israel that got put on Russia a few years ago, Lammy's response was pathetic to the point of amusing.

You big fanny. You can do all the little protests you want. Just don't display support for Palestine Action. It isn't difficult.

They're protesting against the precedent it sets as much as anything.

Part of the reason the majority of people being arrested are pensioners is because they've been around long enough to know how fragile democracy and free speech are.

Democracy isn't going away because some idiots attached to Palestine Action decided to break into a military base and chuck paint around. Do all the protests you want but blame those people that you can't now call yourselves Palestine Action. If protesting for change is what matters then just change the name of your protest group and avoid arrest. It's not hard.

I'm not sure they're trying to avoid arrest, I think you'll find they're highlighting possible misuse of the proscription system and demonstrating the need for free speech and the right to peaceful protest.

But I'm only guessing.

Well, and this might come as a shock, I've heard whispers, on TV and in print, that there's a school of thought out there that believes that some groups may have been proscribed to suppress peaceful protest rather than because they tick all the boxes of a full blown terrorist organisation...

Yes I know, it sounds crazy that a government might use a perfectly good rule for something sinister, but with three-tier Kier and his UK-hating, tax-dodging, flag-burning, EU-loving, woke commie union paymasters all hugging-immigrants, protecting rapists, destroying our perfectly good economy and being as loonie-lefty as they all are, it might just be possible...dangerous times...

In what way does proscribing this particular group supress peaceful protest? Anyone is free to continue to peacefully protest to their heart's content.

For a start, the videos you laughed at, show elderly folk being arrested during peaceful process.

Yes, their peaceful protest involved the name of the newly proscribed organisation, but I see the protest in part as being against that proclamation.

Might they be better off protesting against the Government for proscribing the terrorist group?
