miserableoldgit Posted Friday at 17:17 Posted Friday at 17:17 Sorry if I am a bit late to the party, but is this news? Southampton FC set to appoint Still's new assistant manager | Daily Echo 2
Disco Stu Posted Friday at 17:28 Posted Friday at 17:28 Good appointment I think. He has plenty of experience in the English game to help Will out. Might have some good contacts for arranging loans or signings from the likes of Brighton and Forest as well. 4
Miltonaggro Posted Friday at 17:40 Posted Friday at 17:40 Remember him at Fulham late 90s early 2000s, so played in decent sides under Keegan and Tigana.
Maggie May Posted Friday at 18:09 Posted Friday at 18:09 Welcome, Paul. If we struggle out of the starting blocks, it’s proof we’re Still Trollope. 1
Kenilworthy59 Posted Friday at 18:17 Posted Friday at 18:17 Son of the durable John Trollope who rivalled Terry Paine for longevity 3

I think Trollope's replacement at Swindon was Dave Peach, which never worked out. Also a young Glenn Cockerill would have been a teammate in that ST side.

I’m sure Ted Bates tried to sign John Trollope but Swindon refused to sell.
Badger Posted Friday at 18:51 Posted Friday at 18:51 Can only hope Still is on board with this appointment. Good idea to add some experience to the management team but whether Still sees it that way, or would rather appoint his own team, is another matter.

He wouldn't have taken the job without being comfortable with the composition of his staff. Having someone with extensive experience of the EFL and prior managerial experience too is a nice balance. Zero benefit for Saints to be forcing anyone on him so I'm sure he is fully behind it and any future appointments. Also interesting in that he was working with Rob Edwards at Luton until he was sacked and Edwards is being heavily linked with Middlesbrough and Bristol City. Edited Friday at 20:23 by Dusic 2
Gloucester Saint Posted Friday at 20:30 Posted Friday at 20:30 (edited) Hope that he gets a red card for foul language to the fourth official so that we can shout ‘you filthy Trollope!’ Edited yesterday at 08:15 by Gloucester Saint 1 1
Appy Posted Friday at 21:35 Posted Friday at 21:35 (edited) He was Bristol Rovers manager when they beat us under the glorious reign of Dodd and Gorman. Edited Friday at 21:35 by Appy 3

Turkish Posted yesterday at 06:50 Posted yesterday at 06:50 I see he was at Luton for a while, the genius behind Europes best manager perhaps?
EBS1980 Posted yesterday at 07:01 Posted yesterday at 07:01 Just seen somebody moaning in X that it’s a poor appointment because he has been at clubs relegated twice and we should have been going for someone like the Portugal U19 coach instead. some people just think football manager is how real life is 😂 1 3
Nolan Posted yesterday at 08:30 Posted yesterday at 08:30 There's his assistant manager history. Both promoted and relegated, experience of both Championship and Premier League If you say Still's weakness is lack of time in English football, then Trollope's appointment fills that gap. 2

No but he went in with his replacement. So they did a fantastic job keeping the club on the same upward trajectory after the trauma of losing Nathan Jones. Edited yesterday at 14:07 by Badger

Pound for pound the best assistant to losing the best pound for pound manager in Europe. 🙂

Could have been a shelf stacker or PE teacher in Trowbridge or Calne … 2

Badger Posted yesterday at 20:05 Posted yesterday at 20:05 (edited) In principle it’s a good move having an experienced head in the coaching set up with recent first hand knowledge of players at that level. If used fully he should be going to Still/ Spors with the obvious candidates ( eg off the top of my head, Johannsen, Fellows - even if we don’t get them). But I expect he’ll be shown a spreadsheet and diagrams as to why the player isn’t suitable … and £3.5m on an unknown has better growth potential Edited yesterday at 20:06 by Badger
Saint Fan CaM Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago This guy is THE man. Yup, the REAL deal. No mistake - this means promotion is nailed on.
