.comsaint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 No thanks to Molyneaux who gave the lads lots to do in the second half. If you've already been booked - you don't go in two-footed 8 minutes into the 2nd half ffs. Other than that - a good point - all things considered. Hat's off to Saga who is proving a point to our tossy, inept board! Other results went our way today although a win was badly needed. If we can beat Sheffield United then things are looking up for Saints under Wotte. All in all though - I'll settle for the point against a Welsh side who are sheer class & playing superbly this season.

ExSt Peter Saint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Didn't hear any commentry, so dunno how the game went, but it seems Molyneaux is as much of a liability as the other young defenders we've had in the team. Perry and Saeijs seem a decent CB pairing, but I really think we need some experienced full backs who can defend. Euell should also have played from the start IMO and maybe DMG should be "rested" for some time.

Saints67 Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Think we need to get in an experienced right back as James seems to get skinned week after week. This is another small step in the right direction. It'll be another tough one at home on Tuesday and I'll take a point now for that and then get into Watford at their place for the 3 points. Window Cleaner Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 A reasonable result and we're scoring again. I do feel we need to tighten up at the back a bit more though. We'll see how we get on on Tuesday. A home win will see us moving forward again at least. I suppose we'll have to move Surman to left back on Tuesday. NY Saint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Got out of jail again. Watford, Forest, Barnsley and Charlton losing makes it a bit sweeter. Do do do do... Would have taken a point after losing a defender 8 mins into 2nd half. With all four losing away from home, we really need to start getting maximum points at home to press the advantage otherwise we're asking an awful lot. Pleased with two points this week in retrospect and delighted rthe Saga's back with us and amongst the goals again.

SaintDonkey Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Amazed and pleased with the result. When I left work we had just gone 2-1 down with 10 men and I thought it was all over. I emerged from the tube to hear the result and let out a woop of delight that drew odd looks from the swarms of Arsenal fans. 2-2 is a good result against Swansea, unfortunately we need excellent results if we're to avoid relegation. Assuming Rudi's on his way is Surman our best choice for left back now? Or give Mills another run?

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Just back from the game, and I was very impressed with the fight and character. Saga is class. Molyneux was stupid to get sent off but I didn't think he was that bad before that. They tended to hurt us down the right hand side more. I thought Wotton was excellent and put in a lot of important challenges. Gillett needs to improve his passing and decisions, but his industry was outstanding. But at least we saw a 4-4-2 formation... InvictaSaint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Whilst coming back from 2-1 at home to an in-form, confident Swansea side is no mean achievement, and whilst Saga's goalscoring prowess seems to be returning at just the right time, we CANNOT ignore the bottom line which is one home win all season. That is what will ultimately get us relegated. Two points this week is passable, but we need to be winning home games not drawing them or losing them. Still exceptionally worried, as Lowe should be. He is very much up to his neck in the brown stuff, whatever his olfactory senses may be telling him.

Only slight strange thing was Lallana playing center midfield and Gillett on right but , as most know i was against the dutch experiment but Mr Wotte appears to have put some fire in their bellys Edited 31 January, 2009 by 70's Mike

Window Cleaner Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 How about we pull the plug on Rudi leaving before its too late ? That would make him extremely unhappy and he would sulk his way through the rest of the season. He HAS ASKED FOR A TRANSFER, and not for the first time in his career either, Marseille,Hearts, us last season, he asks to move on every time. He thinks he's better than he actually is, that's his problem.
Mozz Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 thought that although some of the lads ran their guts out today we were also let down by some poor performances. Lallana looked subdued but think this could be symptomatic of being isolated on the right. Thought dmg was poor and surman looked a step off at times. Think a right back should be a priority as james looks out of his depth. Gillet's passing also seemed a bit off. As posted above wotton was a warrior in the second half and saga looked a cut above at times. Great to see the passion on the lads faces after the baby celebration
Arizona Posted 31 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 31 January, 2009 How about we pull the plug on Rudi leaving before its too late ? Will prove difficult, as the club's apparent tactic is to p*ss players off to the point they don't want to be here, rather than putting them on the transfer list and accepting their decision if they chose to stay. Better PR for the club. Loving Motte telling the OS, "If anyone is not 100% committed to SFC, I don't want them to play for us." I just have this vision of the warden at Guantanamo bay saying the same thing.

Window Cleaner Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 (edited) Nothing to do with being replaced by Lee f**king Molyneux then? No not at all, in my opinion of course, he has a track record of this wanderlust, always looking for a level of football beyond his capabilities.I know a few lads (and lasses) from Marseille who describe him as one of the worst players ever to wear their shirt (and they've had some duffers). As soon as he got there he was looking to move on to greener pastures. Trawl through the net and find out about him wanting to leave Hearts to make more cash,he was adored there but he wanted to move on anyway. Toomer Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 (edited) Good point after going behind and being reduced to ten men by a very poor ref yet again, the team showed plenty of fight and spirit. Wotte got the formation about right Saga has shown what we have missed up front with two well taken goals, that's 4 in 3 long may it continue. IMO the way the game went it would have been one we would have lost under JP. Edited 31 January, 2009 by Toomer
St Marco Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 (edited) Have to agree with the above. Just getting home from a great day alround really. The protest went very well and showed to the muppets saying nobody will turn up that at least 1000 or so care about the club enough to turn up. So very proud of the community for that. Then the game. Wotte deserves a hell of a lot of credit for going 442. He did what we all wanted Jan to do for the whole season and it prooves we can play that way. Wotte has made his mark on the team already and i have to say i am more confident with him at the helm then i was with Jan. However there are a few things. Molyneux i have been worried about for sometime now and today i think showed the boy needs to grow up fast. With Skacel on his way out i feel we will now have to put Surman in that slot for the Sheff Utd game and that will break up the creative part of the midfield. Wotten should of been sent off for that two footed tackle, he made mistake after mistake and once again showed he is not up to this level. When he got nutmegged he just let the dude go, you can't do that. But other then Wotten,Molyneux and Lallana i felt everyone else did very very well. Even DMG was all over the place trying to get the ball back. He missed a complete sitter that somehow went over the bar but he was trying to get into the mix and that is what we need. Roni Size was my man of the match simply because as good as Saga was with his goals Size defended like a brick wall, taking the pressure off the defence with every tackle and every header. The boys done really well and they should feel confident about our chances of success if they continue to play with that level of effort. BUT As good as the result is it means we lose points on teams like Derby while keeping the same gap to teams like Watford. Watford are in the relegation zone with us now. We have to get more points then those around us and that is not what we're doing. When a team draws/lose we have to take advantage of that. We have 2 gigantic games ahead of us now which i feel will decide our fate. Lose to Sheff Utd then lose the vital game to Watford and i think we have to be honest and say we deserve to go down. If we can't beat any of the teams around us then we don't deserve to be here. But this performance but more importantly the effort shown by the players gives me confidence that the great escape is possible. The manager gives me more confidence then what JP did. If only Saga and maybe Rasiak were here all season maybe things would of been different. The next 2 games are make or break time. Saint Fan CaM Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 (edited) Saeijs was absolutely fantastic for us today. He put in strong legal challenges all the time, his movement was great, his anticipation saved us on at least three occassions. Easily man of the match, followed by Davis and Saga, who showed fantastic composure in front of goal to score twice (something McGoaldrought can only dream about). Wotton today led the team - he bossed the midfield and was the leader we have been crying out for further up the pitch - keep him there like Davis is kept in goal and keep Saga up front - with Perry/Saeijs at CB there's the spine sorted. On the flipside, Gillet and Lallana were pants today. Surman kept getting dragged inside and leaving Molyneax exposed. Edited 31 January, 2009 by Saint Fan CaM A big omission.
