Lard Posted yesterday at 10:48 Posted yesterday at 10:48 Let’s be honest, right now we are basking in the prospect of a cup semi final at Wembley. the further possible prospect of a cup final… couple that with being in with promotion dogfight, especially with the magnitude of the game tomorrow. With all this in the offing…are you optimistic of being triumphant in both scenarios?….one of either? or none? can we do a poll? if it’s the latter….how deflating will that be to us the fans…and the club?
sockeye Posted yesterday at 12:27 Posted yesterday at 12:27 (edited) It really feels that we exist on a knife edge right now. Winning the cup would be indescribably amazing, a once-in-a-generation event that none of us would ever forget, would be a cultural cornerstone and no doubts would lead to some fantastic European nights next season. I don’t see it as realistic because Man City at this point in a season are terrifyingly strong. They trounced Liverpool 4-0 and are clear favourites for the cup and may win even the PL this year. However failing promotion will have consequences. We won’t sign Peretz, Scienza and others. We could even lose Tonda. We’ve been lucky that Leicester and Sheffield United have been relatively uncompetitive this season. West Ham, Wolves and Burnley won’t be easy. Worst case scenario, we waste more time with a Still-level manager and a barren squad. I think we’ll make it to the playoffs off final - we have too much over two legs. The final itself? More of a dice roll. Edited yesterday at 12:41 by sockeye 3
Saint86 Posted yesterday at 14:56 Posted yesterday at 14:56 (edited) I am wrestling with the knowledge that we're a superb team for the level (and we are bang in form), with the scarring of a lifetime of being a saints fan and knowing that we very rarely get nice things. I want to say we'll get promoted via the playoffs. I even want to say we'll get past man city... But I just feel like those kind of dreams / fairytales are forbidden and so incredibly fragile that to even whisper them will end in tears. I also know that regardless of any romanticism, if we fail to get promoted we will basically be saying bye bye to eckert, Peretz, scienza, thb, and likely Charles... So I think the description of a knife edge is very valid... We have to have a near perfect ending to the season (which would be one of the best ever seasons in modern history) or we will be staring a bleak come down straight in the face this summer. We're like a high stakes gambler betteting it all on the perfect roll, but with no choice but to gamble. Having said all that, I chose to dream - get ready for 3 wins at wembley saints fans, this shit is happening 😆 Edited yesterday at 14:57 by Saint86 7
James G Posted yesterday at 15:29 Posted yesterday at 15:29 I think we'll make the playoffs, and we'll win the first round. And we have a 70 per cent chance of winning the final. Automatic promotion chances are very slim. As others have said, I'd rather Ipswich came second. FA cup, if we beat City (we have a fair chance but they are favourites) then I think we'll win the final. 2
Miltonaggro Posted yesterday at 16:49 Posted yesterday at 16:49 Was watching a video with some ex-players a few months back and one made the salient point that in the Championship a side that hits the form sweet spot in the final two months is one that goes up. So that's my feeling there. A few of our players have also said in recent interviews that no targets have been set, and they go out to win every game. This mentality is top down from TE & Co., another refreshing positive. Last two league games I have seen Saints beat a shithouse Norwich side toe to toe (plus inept ref) and school / toy with an Oxford Utd side who appeared to be our equals earlier in the season. Not as much fun as the 5-0 QPR demolition, but adapting to niggly teams who themselves tried to adapt to resurgent Saints. Thus, remaining games all look winnable / survivable to me. With the cup, well it's the magic of the cup. I would have chosen Man City over Arsenal for the QF as we seem to have done OK against them in recent years. Arsenal underestimated us / were distracted, so hopefully Man City in the SF do exactly the same, and come unstuck. They wont get an easy ride, I know that much. If we get to the final we will have done it the hard way as underdogs and I reckon we might have enough at the 50th attempt regardless of Leeds or Chelsea! COYR! 1
aintforever Posted yesterday at 17:27 Posted yesterday at 17:27 Think we will get smashed by City but win the playoffs. 3
die Mannyschaft Posted yesterday at 18:20 Posted yesterday at 18:20 City 4-2 Saints. Last game Preston 1-4 Saints to seal 6th place possibly on goal difference. Play off Boro 1-1 Saints and Saints 2-1 Boro. Play off Final Saints 3 (Ross Stewart 9min, Charles 52 min, Manning 82 min ) -1 Millwall. 2
LiberalCommunist Posted yesterday at 18:47 Posted yesterday at 18:47 (edited) Sneak into fifth. Spanked from the cup. The rest is unwritten. Edited yesterday at 18:47 by LiberalCommunist 1

LeG Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Think we need to calm down a bit. This run has been amazing, and the Arsenal game was unreal, but people aren't thinking straight, and have forgotten to include the FA Community Shield. 1 9
SNSUN Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Going with head over heart - I think we get knocked out by City from the cup but do ourselves proud on the day with a spirited, fighting performance. I'll postpone making the play-off prediction until I know the result of tomorrow's game. Win and we'll finish in the play-offs, lose or draw and it could go down to the final day as to whether we make them or not. As for winning them if we get there... let's just make them first. 3

I kind of agree with you but there's this distant hope that the stars are aligned perfectly for us to win the FA Cup as a second tier club 50 years after we originally did it. Probably sentimental claptrap but stranger things have happened. 2
coalman Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago FA Cup winners. Promoted in 2nd. Widespread disappointment we only get two visits to Wembley this season. 3 3
HKsaint Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) If not because of Will Still experiment, we would have been sitting 1st or 2nd of the table comfortably. Where is he now? Edited 10 hours ago by HKsaint
Willo of Whiteley Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago My predictions: - 3-2 loss to Man City in the semi-final. - Finishing in fifth place after stumbling in these last run of games. - We’ll play Middlesbrough in the semis, and beat Millwall in the play off final. - Taylor Harwood-Bellis new contract. - DT to be raging whatever outcome happens this season. Now we all know that only one of the above is guaranteed to happen and we all know it’s the fifth point. 😂
Fabrice29 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Tdmickey to watch any game we drop points in from now on but exclusively no others. 1

danjosaint Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Wasn't there a thread on this at start of season, be interesting to see whose got what
Noodles34 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I said a few weeks back we’d have more chance of making the Cup Final than the PO Final and was very much ridiculed for it. Now one game for the CF, but a tough one. Really wanted Chelsea as dont fancy a Leeds revenge and obv MC are as tough as they come except for Arsenal. So sticking with my prediction ad if we do make the final I think we’ll win it. The league will be tough. A lot on tonight and Saturday. Need min 4 points.

They have us odds on to make the playoffs, from 2/7 to 1/3. Even assuming a pessimistic 50% chance of winning our playoff, that gives us about a 35 to 40% chance of making the playoff final, as opposed to about 10% for the FA cup final.

Dr Who? Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I know I have sure we would lose to Arsenal, but surely the luck (not that it was luck), but at Wembley surely we cannot beat Man City? If we do there is not any reason why we cannot win the thing! I still think we are a couple of bad results on missing out on the playoffs, and let’s face it we are quite capable of going on a bad run at completely the wrong time! Tonight for example would be a really bad time to lose, because of who it is against. Win tonight and I will be completely sure that at least 6th will be where we finish, but a lot hinges on this result. If we make the playoffs I think we will get to the final, and then just toss of a coin final for the ‘big’ time.
