One assumes this is all leading up to Sport Republic declaring that Schlottenbeck was the THB replacement all along and this nextCB to join is in fact a Quarshie replacement, i.e. 4th choice behind Stephens and Wood...?

I have been concerned that this might happen in terms of our centre backs. We've lost THB and Quarshie and brought in Schlotterbeck so the club are possibly taking the view that we only need a replacement for Quarshie and they see Luca Reggiani as an upgrade which few would dispute.

"Great minds..."

He's on holiday. Already announced it on yesterday's Goin Home with Adam and Jo 🙂

What kind of sports editor goes on holiday 24 hours before the end of a football transfer window...?!

From a tall Norwegian with an eye for goal, to a sought after pretty experienced centre back from the Spanish top flight to a young Forest centre back with 3 first team appearances to his name.

Never change SR.

Or actually...

Yeah has a lot of England youth rank appearances to his name and is probably highly regarded etc etc but it looks like he'd be 4th choice and we'd be rotating Wood and Stephens with partnering Schlotterbeck. If it happens, would be a huge miss from the club in a season where we ideally need a proper CB replacement for THB.

I stress if, as none of us know what the club actually have planned. I still think we get the big Norwegian after we bid enough.

One who forgot when the international break was.

That rumour just sound like that gash African winger we were heavily linked with last year that was never true. I expect he's on our list but probably there in case we miss out on everyone else.

At least there are links, would be worse getting to the day before the window closes without even any links.

Mind you no news is good news, so they say.

So he's either a Muppet or it's an excellent double-bluff...? ;)

If that's not his idea of a joke then he's a p*** poor football journalist as the international breaks for this season were set a long time ago

We may well do but what is worrying some of us is that we started off looking as though we planned to splash some cash and buy someone decent but these deals fell through and we now seem to be aiming much lower. I get that everything is rumour and clickbait at this end of the window but we've seen many of these disappointments before as Saints fans.

It's a massive fuck up, is it not? International break is late September and he books his holiday in (very) late August?

We will be shopping in the Richard Dryden bargain aisle in another couple of hours.

Indeed...The first international break has never been this early (subject to @Matthew Le God confirmation)... nice try Mr Blackmore.... ;)

I don't think we're quite at the 2am, dancefloor-trawling, "tits and a pulse will do" stage yet.

But we are closing in on a "don't look at the fireplace..." mindset I feel.

It is crucial that we don't have to play Stephens. Will be the difference between getting into the playoffs and mid table mediocrity IMO

How's he going to commentate tomorrow?

Blackmore knows Tonda is about to be banned and he’s escaping the UK so he doesn’t have to deal with the fallout. Ffs we are relegation bound another disasterclass by sport republic

Not going to lie that is pretty underwhelming. Seems that we've missed out on the first choices we wanted. I'm surprised we didn't go for someone prior to letting thb go.

That's extremely disappointing - must have got promises from an agent and then they got cold feet. I know we like to say they're amateurish, but it doesn't tend to happen like that unless they've been stitched up.

lets judge when the window closes and when we have seen our new recruits in action! The players brought in so far have all been fairly decent. Dobin is the only one that there might be question mark over but it is still way to early to judge.

If it's that and a backup gk and that's the window how would people feel? Keeping Scienza and Jander would be massive and a big tick but I can't help but feel we haven't managed to leave it all out there in order to win promotion.

Spord deserves trust

Come on. We’re about to sell our best player and the replacement is a 20 year old on loan from a lower mid table PL club. He might turn out to be decent, but surely wasn’t the Club’s first choice. As others have said, we’ve banked the best part of £60m this summer and the replacements for those two players will reportedly have cost less than £1m. Does suggest our finances aren’t amazing.

Alfie house reckons we don't want to pay more for players who weren't our first choice. Is he talking about the norwegian perhaps? Cb is such a crucial position, probably our most crucial position this window given who we've lost. It's so important we get it right. Spors deserves a level of trust but this is a hell of a risk.
