SAINTS head coach Tonda Eckert has hailed Damion Downs as "a very dynamic player" after the striker's winner in Friday's Saints' 1-0 friendly win over Eintracht Braunschweig.

fk me, does TONDA know that our forum experts have already decided DD is not a footballer, how can he say those outrageously positive things about a donkey ? Surely there  is no football player in there…….TONDA has no clue, right?

Tonda is only going to be the manager for another three days so it won't matter what he thinks....

One thing Tonda has never done is target his own players and undermine / bully them in public etc... if he was like that he'd be getting praise similar to lampard who does it to his players at every club when things aren't going well.

Yep I'm heading out for it. Think there's at least 50 going with Nicks Saints Away Travel. Should be a good laugh.

I am going, and have purchased a ticket, for which I have confirmation. However, no actual ticket has arrived yet, physical or electronic so getting slightly concerned. My normal very helpful chap in the ticket office hasn't got back to me.

I did wonder if you just showed proof of purchase at Munster?

There is a very good chance I have missed something!

I received mine in an email yesterday, as did a few others going. Although it's slightly concerning that it's showing as row 13 & 15 on our seated tickets 😅

Was BBD played as the central striker? I actually think he's alright in that role for this level and could see us retaining him in place of stewart if we don't sign anyone else. Anything is better than seeing him playing him on the wing again...

BBD has shown that he  has enough to offer as a squad member at least. We could easily do worse than keep him for what we will get for him and have to pay for a replacement , if one is needed.

Shambles, all coming home to roost now

Yeah, yeah, yeah......problem is, we lose a couple of matches early in the season and a lot of people will be making these type of comments. So there's a way around this 😉

There again, in matches last season, the team had a bad ten munutes and there's all sorts of doom and gloom messages. The biggest concern from this match was that Baz was spotted with a Saints shirt on again - though he didn't play. Phew!

What exactly has he shown?

Yeah I said this weeks ago. He proved with Derby that he can do it at this level still.
I don’t want him starting many games but he definitely offers something off the bench and can play multiple positions. We shouldn’t be looking to get rid unless Tonda decides he doesn’t rate him.

45 goals in 144 games at Blackburn.

Let’s not forget Archer’s impressive form once upon a time in the Championship.

Doesn’t mean he’ll achieve it again but can’t take it away from him.

3 years ago. He has produced nothing for us and been average at best for Sheff Utd and Derby. We can do better.

Of course we can, but the point the poster above made was that for the relatively meagre sum we'd get for him against the funds needed to buy a replacement, it might make more sense to keep him around if Tonda thinks he's of use. Squad depth is a good thing, after all.

im getting flash backs to this time last season when everyone was saying armstrong and BBD were proven champ goal scorers so would do the business for us

Enjoy Münster to those going. One of the three German teams I 'follow'. I had an ex that used to live there for a while so have visited the city a few times. I last visited the Preußenstadion back at Christmas 2022 and took these shots. No game though as she hated football! The ground is still undergoing a major redevelopment as far as I know. In case you didn't know Caspar Jander was born there and a former youth player.

They should be no match for Saints really. They had a horrid season last year and returned to the third tier where they usually reside. They even got hammered 6-0 by Dynamo Dresden towards the end, another team I follow, who managed a late surge and avoided relegation themselves.

Exactly. One of them might come good, but I wouldn’t bank on it, and it seems pretty foolish to go into the season relying on BBD, Archer and Downs.

I’d go further and add I wouldn’t want to rely on Stewart if he returns staying fit for the season either.

I can understand you not wanting him near the first team but we’d be paying his wages if injured. Far better he gets a loan out again somewhere

I think that ship has sailed because he'll not have had a proper pre-season fitness regime which, for a player with his injury history, is going to make life tough for him. He may be rapidly burning all his bridges.

Don’t disagree with that either.

At the end of last season, and before Spygate, my hope had been Larin, Stewart and another, the quality and experience of the other dependent on which league we were in. That hasn’t changed we need another good CF option to go with Larin irrespective of Stewart.

None of the current squad options, BBD, Archer or Downs are the answer in my book. And Dobbin doesn’t seem a CF as good as he may prove elsewhere

Sounds like a splendid place, and a team I should follow too.
