To quote Souness, who in football has a name like Rufus.

Wasn't there already a Southampton Football Club Ltd ?

There is already a Southampton Football Club Limited and Rufus Brevett has only ever been a director of one company - Rufus Brevett Developments Limited so I would suggest taking this info with a pinch of salt.

Perhaps it's not exactly Southampton Football Club Ltd (the new one) perhaps there's a nuance somewhere. Unless of course it's been established outside the UK

It's not Southampton Football Club Limited, it's Southampton Football Company Limited - as stated, formed 9th April 2009, company number 06874662:

There's a Southampton Football Company Limited (registered no 6874662) formed on that date. Wouldn't read too much into that for now. Often the acquiring co has a shelf name (e.g. newco 1 limited or the like) until after the deal has completed

there is the nuance, company not club.

There's a sandwich shop at that address.

And a bookkeeping company.

Same postcode, but name instead of number, could be a regus building or something like that

I think it might be the bookkeeping company I found, Ross Brooke Chartered Accountants:

They do business startups.

Maybe we'll get a millionaire (shortbread) after all?

And a bookkeeping company.

I think they are serviced offices... so probably just the registered address used by the formation agents.

A friend of mine used to work for Ross Brooke in Newbury, he tells me that they used to do the audits for Swindon Town.

Finding out what he can right now would obviously be pretty unethical, so I don't imagine he'll be asking anyone he knows and getting back to me soon. He'd better not, anyway...

I had tea at Rufus house. Made by Rufus himself. In a QPR mug. When he lived in Owlsmoor.

all true.

What number am I thinking of dude?

I once took a girl on a date to watch Saints v Fulham ( I think ) at The Dell, we sat in the East Stand, the girl in question spent the whole game screaming at Rufus and demanding we stayed behind after so she could meet him as she thought he was 'lush' .

I never saw the girl again.

A mate of mine also runs the King Rufus in Chandlers Ford.

Does anyone else have any Rufus stories?

Portuguese group linked to Tranmere Rovers takeover

Apr 29 2008

Prenton Park

TRANMERE Rovers could become the latest English club to fall into the hands of foreign businessmen.

The Daily Post understands a Portuguese investment company has had talks with the club and is working on plans to take a financial stake, or even control, at Prenton Park.

The group behind the move is believed to be responsible for the aborted takeover attempt at another League One club, Swindon Town, last year.

Operating under the name of Best Holdings SGPS, the Portuguese investment company announced they were taking control of financially troubled Swindon in July, 2007 – then pulled out in October.

Tranmere may look like a more stable target for the group than Swindon, who subsequently reached agreement with a locally-based consortium headed by businessman Andrew Fitton.

Best Holdings allowed little information about the company’s background to reach the public domain during the brief flirtation with Swindon.

However, the Daily Post understands the man behind the Swindon takeover, Portuguese businessman George Rubenstein, was present at Prenton Park for a reserve team game last month.

Best Holdings appointed American Jim Little as chairman designate when they moved in at the County Ground at the start of the current season.

Rufus Brevett, the former Queens Park Rangers, Fulham, Plymouth and Oxford defender was co-opted to the board as an adviser.

Little, a former vice-chairman of Irish club Cork City and the managing director of a real estate advisory company, was reported to be behind Swindon’s recruitment of a number of continental and South American players.

By the time Best Holdings pulled out of the County Ground in October, manager Paul Sturrock was forced to trim his squad to meet budget demands and many of the foreign recruits departed. None made a first- team appearance.

Little and Brevett also left the club.

With talk of a take-over at Tranmere still in the forefront, we take a look at what the deal might mean for the future of the Club and what the potential investors have done in the past including a failed take-over bid at fellow League One side Swindon Town.

Best Holdings the Worst Thing for Rovers?

As rumours of a possible take-over at Prenton Park by a Portuguese group of investors continue to circulate and certainly refuse to go away, there is some confusion amongst Rovers fans with regard to the potential deal which was revealed here on Total Tranmere last week.

Reports in the local media this week suggest that the future of Rovers Manager Ronnie Moore and his out of contract players may be put on hold until a take-over deal with the group, under the name of Best Holdings, is either finalised or ruled out totally.

If this proves to be the case it would be a major setback for the Club, possibly putting them several weeks behind other League One Clubs in the all important planning stages for next season.

The question must also be raised as to whether the new investors (should this deal happen), would want to bring in their own management and coaching team and if history is anything to go by, they may even want to bring in their own players too.

Earlier this season, the group that are now apparently interested in Rovers launched what turned out to be a failed bid for our League One rivals Swindon Town. In the build up to the proposed deal though, the group led by Portuguese businessman Jeorge Rubinstein - widely thought of as a football agent, signed players to add to Swindon's squad but this also proved a disaster.

Could Prenton Park soon go Portugese?

Mauro Almeida, Franklin Anzite and Ibon Arrieta were all signed on apparently high wages and long contracts but none were judged by the then Swindon Manager Paul Sturrock to be good enough for the first team.

All three players were released shortly after the Best Holdings takeover of Swindon broke down in November but the stories that stem from the Wiltshire Club should serve as a warning to Rovers fans that a takeover will not necessarily be a good thing in the long term.

What the intentions of the Group would be in terms of the investment also remain unclear and a take-over would not necessarily mean pots of money.

Would Best Holdings strip the assets of the Club or would they just maybe improve the overall financial situation?

Yes, as things stand Rovers have debts and are making a loss, but they have a family feel to the Club, something which Lorraine Rogers and the current Board take great pride in and something that it would be a great shame to lose.

There is no reason to be against a future take-over of the Club by any means but this particular take-over bid seems riddled with potential complications and on the whole does not seem like the right way forward for Tranmere Rovers.

As fans, we need to trust that Lorraine Rogers and the Board will take all factors on board before making a decision on whether this take-over is right. If they decide it is the right thing for the Club then they will have their reasons for thinking that.

Whatever the outcome, we hope the Club comes out stronger on the other side but caution should certainly be the word that is taken up as we step into the unknown.
