Dutch interview with Poortvliet this week:

According to the online translation, he says he was "dismissed". I thought he had resigned...?

Here's the 'best' (aka 'rubbish') translation I could muster into English (courtesy of Babelfish):-

Jan Poortvliet ordered pause

Jan Poortvliet: After my dismissal at Southampton is it now time for bezinning.

VELSEN - as if he never had been. With gebroeders of Viscount of Telstar he will eat a bite recently in santpoort North. Hé boy, everything well, cancel he who for him this way characteristic manner. Jan Poortvliet were just as in Velsen and made particular relax themselves impression.

After my dismissal at Southampton is it now time for bezinning. Just as nice do nothing. Deliciously, the aimabele Zeeuw smiled. After its rather successful period in the IJmond he settled on by means of Nuenen and Arnemuiden at tending mouth sport, signed thereby, but could none no say on a splendour offer from a country where he what concerns football its heart to has pledged: United Kingdom.

I got a superb offer of Southampton that years at the highest level have acted, a couple year suffered has a splendidly new stadion let through to build with a capacity of 32,000 witnesses, but money lack with a piepjonge selection the competition in had.

We got compliments because of the attractive game but particularly at home them the leaving lie. From they at home unfortunately hardly won six times but. Possibly that press at home to perform that young boys have become too much. I do not think that they save going and that find I moan.

Poortvliet had passively take care that assistant mark Wotte is tasks took over. Mark indicated the governing board that he could the tide turn, however. Tja …. , Jan Poortvliet judge evocative.

Toch he it had to its sense to the English South coast. The Championship sit full with clubs with a rich chronicle and incredibly much public. Derby County, Wolves, Reading, Queens park Rangers and Sheffield United plays on that level. But flat Southampton also not. Each away match we are supported by such a 2000 fans, in spite of the low class ring and the spicy prices of the tickets.

A couple weeks returned there 27,000 man to show up for the degradation duel against Charlton Athletic. The admissions had been drastically reduced or, but nevertheless impressive. Moan that we were not able find an answer on the beech football in our class. Those proponents and pierce kleunen there in, which do not want know you.

Concerning its future plans Jan Poortvliet are still vague. I see, however, what descends there on me. Now even nicely rests. I can load the battery just as. There real, however, something comes on my way. It comes all, however, well hears…

Meanwhile....am I the only one ever so slightly concerned that Southampton Leisure Holdings announced to the London Stock Exchange than Poortvliet "resigned" when Poortvliet is being reported as saying that he was "dismissed"?

I supposed it could be lost in translation though....

It came as a shock to Saints fans to discover that far from having problems with their on-line translation software, they were actually reading exactly what JP had said in his English version of his interview

Legendary analyst DP summed up the fans feelings "well at least we now know why we were so cr*p when he was here. This actually was a transcript of his instructions to the team before the televised Blackpool game."

I don't think that's a rubbish translation. The article reads like his post-game press conferences - and probably his team talks - sounded. Pretty much incomprehensible.

Anyone remember Stanley Unwin?

Anyway, good luck to JP.

I loved the "spicy prices of tickets"!!!!!!

Also the fact we are all "witnesses", yeah fcking witnesses to the murder of a football club LOL.

And of course he was sacked. Only a few days earlier he was promising he would double his efforts or something like that and was up for the fight!!!!

I remember some dinlo trying to blame Crouch for unsettling him and influencing his decision to resign on that Friday as Crouch was in SMS the day he got the boot.

Here we go for a quick and "unproofread" translation

Jan Poortvliet takes a break

"VELSEN - It's as though he'd never been away. He recently went for a bit to eat along with Telstar's Burggraaf brothers in Santpoort-Noord. 'Hi lads! Everything's fine' he says in his characteristic way. Jan Poortvliet had just come back to Velsen and looked particularly relaxed.

'After being sacked by Southampton it is now time to pick myself up. Just relax and enjoy doing nothing', smiles the friendly man from Zeland. After a reasonably successful period in Ijmond, he went from Nuenen and Arnemuiden to Helmond Sport where he signed a contract, but couldn't refuse a tempting offer from a country close to his heart in football terms: England.

'I received a fantastic offer from Southampton who had played at the highest level for years, who had had a lovely, new 32,000-capacity stadium built but who had to enter the competition with nippers for financial reasons. We were credited for playing attractive football but couldn't make it pay at home. The kids won 6 games away but very seldom at home. Perhaps the pressure of playing at home was too much for them. It's sad, but I don't think they'll avoid relegation.'

Poortvliet underwent the agony of seeing his assistant Mark Wotte take over from him. 'Mark told the board that he could turn things over. Well...', he says without further comment.

Yet he enjoyed his stay on the South coast. 'The Championship is packed with teams which have a rich history and play in front of incredibly high attendances. Derby County, Wolves, Reading, Queen's Park Rangers en Sheffield United all play at Championship level. But don't write Southampton off that list. Every away game we had a 2,000-strong support despite our low table position and expensive ticket prices. A few weeks back they had a 27,000 crowd in the relegation clash against Charlton Athletic. True, the ticket prices had been slashed, but it's still impressive. It's a pity we couldn't find an answer to the hoofball game in our division. You wouldn't believe our defenders and forwards get stuck in.'

Poortvliet remains vague about his own future. 'I'll just see what comes in. I'm just enjoying a rest at the moment. Something will come up. Everything will be fine..."

Hope this makes it a wee bit more understable

Bet if JP had been permitted to run the team under the same policy as Wotte we would now be outside the relegation zone.... not above half way but outside it. Can't help but think he wasnt good enough but couldve been better than the man we currently have.

Decent bloke and as honest as he could be in that interview. Just appeared clueless on the touchline.

Still, I agree with him over Wotte.

Bastard! Calling our 2000 away fans "Low class ring."

taking lessons from Rupes? ;)

A proper translation would be. Despite the low league position

and the spicy prices of the tickets, LOL

Spicy=expensive, very common to say that in Dutch

"Those proponents and pierce kleunen there in, which do not want know you".

WTF does that mean?.

He was saying that the central attackers and defenders played so physical and that they youngsters couldn't cope.

Meanwhile....am I the only one ever so slightly concerned that Southampton Leisure Holdings announced to the London Stock Exchange than Poortvliet "resigned" when Poortvliet is being reported as saying that he was "dismissed"?

I supposed it could be lost in translation though....

That's not lost in translation, he says dismissed.

So if he really was sacked thats another manager that our former Chairman had to pay up then ?

I wonder if old 19 Canteen and co would be willing to admit, or at least see, that the amount of money that tosser had to fork out for his managerial mistakes has probably helped take us to the brink of going under.

Of course I'm forgetting none of it was his fault was it ? It was us/the players/the media/the staff/the tea lady/the ball boys/the half time entertainment etc etc

A mate told me that around the time Poortw*t was appointed he was seen in the De Vere very drunk and he took a waiter up to his room. Source is a De Vere employee. So not only was he clueless about football but he is an alcoholic dutch faggot as well. True story (allegedly).

We all know he was fired anyway. Should never have been appointed either.

I had heard he enjoyed a tipple of Burleyesque proportions ... but not that sort of a tip. :o
