RobM Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Just like relegation to the Championship would be a fresh start for us. A chance to clear out the deadwood, get in players who care about the club and get in a new manager. Things will be much easier and we will bounce back within a year or two, we will walk this league. Bailey Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 (edited) Hmm, makes you wonder what our team will look like next season too. With so many first-team players out of contract, we could be back to square one with a bunch of kids. Just have to hope that the new owners, if there are any, have a bit of money to invest into the first-team. Possible line-up with no additional signings? ---------------------- Forecast/Bialkowski ----------------------- James/Hatch --- Perry/Lancashire --- Thomas/??? --- Mills/Molyneux McLaggon/Thomson -- Wotton/Gillett -- Pulis/Gobern -- Holmes/Smith ------------ Paterson/White ----- McGoldrick/??? ---------------- With McGoldrick bagging himself 13 goals this season, there may well be a bit of interest from Champ teams, possibly newly promoted? No guarantee that Perry and Wotton will stay, and to be honest, I wouldn't lose any sleep if the latter left. Thomas is no doubt on a relatively big wage, and so I wouldn't be surprised if he left, although he could be quite useful in League One. Window Cleaner Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Isn't Wotton on a 3 year contract? Our main problem is disposing of Skacel,Rasiak and Saganowski and Euell (but he's out of contract) before the weight of their salary mass drags us down again. Plus if BWP is still here next season, well we'll go straight down again and again and again till he's gone. When I saw his name on the team sheet today I knew we'd lose. A complete and utter waste of space.

From day one BWP has been a big question mark......Never a footballer at this level.......Conference might see a few goals from him with speed at that level......I am thinking he could or is HCDAJFU in a couple of years time alongside Gasmi, Pulis, Smith, Holmes, Spiderman, Forecast against Forest Green Rovers. dubai_phil Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Our new start next season will be with Either a proven PL level manager who has fallen off the map and is prepared to come in on a "last chance to get back to the big time" type deal of about 50k a year and bonuses OR an up and coming backroom guy from a bigger club who is now ready to take the next step, let me think? Oh yeah, someone like Pearson I honestly do NOT believe we should be looking at a "first job" ex player (ie they HAVE to have served an apprenticeship first somewhere behind the scenes) and we shouldn't be looking as a fast risen fast fallen not proven name. I just HOPE that IF we survive the people who make that decision start with a clean slate and ask some independent experts, not the first agent to come calling

Crab Lungs Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Tisdale or Paul Simpson for me. Can't understand why people rate Ince. so22saint Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Tisdale, Nic Holmes or Le Tiss for me. Le Tiss and Franny would be a good team I reckon. If we have wiped some debt out and have a decent chairman / board next season I'd also like to see us keep maybe 5 of the current squad, sign 6 good journeyman pros who are used to playing in Div 3 / 4 and see if Le Tiss can get a couple of decent older players in on loan through his media contacts. Agreed a lot depends on who buys the club. my concern is that our academy does not produce big strong players, we almost seem to turn away anyone over 6ft, the whole club will need restructuring and unless we have a manager who can pick up good strong non league players capable of making the transistion to full time pros we will struggle

Physically we've not been a match for most sides this season. Add a complete lack of pace in the team, no leadership, little fight, poor fitness, wrong formation, managers who lack knowledge of this division.... I could go on sadly. Its no surprise we're in this sorry state. The only ray of sunshine for me is that the backing from the fans this season has been superb considering the complete shambles we've endured

krissyboy31 Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 I definately do not want Le Tiss as manager. I want to remember him as the the absolute genius of a player that he was and not the hopeless sh!t manager, incapable of building a team good enough to challenge for promotion from the dizzy depths of League 1. A total clean sweep from the board-room and a manager that has no historic links to SFC is the way to go IMO. We've had too much sentimentality in the past when it has come to promoting from within or keeping crocked players, in the hope that they will come good, eventually. CLOTH EARS Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 At the Q & A evening last Thursday Matt Le Tissier was asked if he'd ever consider managing Saints. His reply was that he started doing his coaching badges but found the process incredibly boring so halfway through part 2 he chucked it in. As he pointed out, to be able to manage in the Football league you need these badges so he said the answer to the question is NO, I will never manage Saints. I for one am glad of this as I dont ever want to be in the position where the team is struggling and we have to sack a club legend and have our memories of him soured. Remember Spurs and Hoddle! We have to clear out the dead wood, sell those that can be sold for whatever they fetch or swop where we can, then get in virtually a whole new squad, otherwise we are going nowhere with the flaky bunch we are currently saddled with. FFS they can't even take a decent corner or free kick and when did a forward last score from a header or a tap in, that says it all for me. We need more players with the character of Gillett. Think you need to get behind the words and really understand what he was saying. Have a listen to this one and it's not exactly as you are saying: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/8004742.stm And I think the £10m relates to prior monies invested (i.e. inc the pruchase and funding last season etc etc etc) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/2299310/Milan-Mandaric-fears-a-10m-nightmare.html They have not spent big on transfer fees this season and the BBC interview refers to this quite clearly.
