RobM Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Just looking at the pictures and comments on the David Hughes testimonial thread got me thinking... which Saints that still play would you welcome back to SMS next season? I'd welcome Oakley, Prutton and Cranie back and would love Niemi to join us as goalkeeping coach. I would even consider approaching Telfer too, as his fitness, experience and professionalism certainly wouldn't go amiss when rebuilding. No real point to this, just something to think about other than consortiums and relegation

Arizona Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Can't see us getting Oakley back. He is still easily CCC class and was doing a decent job for Derby in the Prem a little over a year ago. Not offering him the 2 year deal Burley offered Wright was madness IMO. Realistically we'd be looking at players like Ormerod, Cranie and Prutton. I'd welcome the latter back with open arms just for his effort. Oh, and Gregory Vignal is available on a free.

No real point to this, just something to think about other than consortiums and relegation Considering .....it's League 1.... Why not,Telfer ?, (for 1-2 seasons.) He's the fittest player we've ever had. Oakley in midfield YES - especially as we'll likely lose Lallana and / or Surman. Crainie has a long history with Saints - but he's no more than average IMHO. Prutton - nice guy - but terrible discipline - almost ADHD sometimes (!) Niemi as coach ..YES..and Michael Svensson, too! James Beattie (? ) - well, you can dream, I suppose....in 2 years... maybe. Wayne Bridge....in 3 years ...maybe Theo Walcott....in 10 years ...maybe
Arizona Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Only if used as a Left Winger. Bit of an weird spelling mistake there. :-? I think you mean: Only if used as an emergency replacement, if we break one of those plastic dummies used for a wall in free kick practice.. eelpie Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 I would welcome back ex-Saints when we are a non-League club - which looks increasingly likely.
Odiham saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 A bit besides the point but James Beattie was just interviewed on Sky Sports news talking about Stoke whilst clearly wearing our shirt! It was at Staplewood and you could see some of our fans in the background! Most likely was today and Sky had blocked out our badge to not make it too obvious

I couldn't figure out why Beatts would be wearing last season's home kit. Surely it would be this seasons kit or one of the old ones from his time here. Unless of course Stoke aren't content with collecting our old players and now want our old kits for next season too. Anyway, good to see Beattie doing something to support the club (though I have no idea what). I can't imagine Kevin Phillips doing anything like... whatever it is he's doing. VectisSaint Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Nope, I would still take them. Why, just because they are ex-Saints? JvD especially was a complete knob-head, and we wasted so much money on someone who couldn't give a toss about us. Davenport was one of the main reasons for relegation. Most others listed I would back like a shot, but these two were just ****s and I would not welcome back at any cost. Just another thought, How about Tin Man, HCDAJFU (even Chala might be usefuk at Leagie One level)
Papa Shango Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Martin Cranie is the last player I would want back. Prutton can **** off as well!
wightman35 Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 They are all History. It is no use harking back. Lets keep some of our promising youngsters and reinforce with some cheap hard cases; especially a big centre forward who knows where the goal is! Maybe not with regard to Phillips but I've always thought he was the most skilful player of proven standing at the club in recent years apart from Le Tissier. If he'd have been playing up front for us this season we wouldn't be going down now. Even with a points deduction IMHO.
