Smirking_Saint Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 The saints players were out on the p!ss last night. Please don't ask me exactly where or exactly who. Overheard some of the guys when i was watching the cup final today at BTC, apparantly BWP was definately out banging on about his brother, p!ssed up and full of jolly. Now, i appreciate that everyone needs an escape and before i have said that they should not be blasted for having a drink now and again as i understand they are all young men. However...... on the day you get relegated is a bit of a joke, never liked the little bastard anyways. And don't understand why he gets such amorous applause by the fans. Ponty Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 I see your point but I don't think they should be judged on that, tbh. I prefer to judge them on the shambolic season that preceded the night out.
lee_saint Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 The company I worked for lost near on 300K last year, didn't stop us having a Xmas party, it's the same thing, let them have a night out and put the worst season that most of them have had behind them and look forward. Mr saint Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 What did you want him to do? Sit at home and cry all evening? If you'd told me this on Satuday evening I might have given a ****. It doesn't matter; leave him be.
saint_ed Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 How many times have you had a bad day and thought to yourself you are going to go for a drink. They can ***** themselves up as much as they like for the next couple of weeks as in all likelihood the majority will end up playing for other teams next season anyway. Noodles34 Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 God, does anyone care anymore, what difference does it make. They were on the **** the day we got relegated, so what! RingySFC Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 You cant really blame them in this day and age. You have a bad day at work you go out with your mates, get lashed and have a good one. Players these days regardless of club or division this is a job to them. They dont have any particular feelings towards the club (obviously this is a generalisation and there will be some who do) but the rate that players club hop these days there is not any love for whatever club they are at in general. RedArmy Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 We weren't relegated yesterday. Who cares? As long as they weren't thieving or beating up fans, does it matter? The seasons over, they'll probably be out loads over the summer, what's the difference?
Smirking_Saint Posted 4 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 4 May, 2009 Ok, fair points, just think that it is a bit early, i understand about the company...xmas parties etc but at the end of it all they don't have many fans sat worried about what the **** is going to happen. Just find it a bit sad that is all, perhaps i am a bit over emotional but if you were a player and really cared would you be out on a jolly, i for one would not. rocknrollman no2 Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 Must admit my mates and me went on the p-i-s-s in Nottingham after the match. It certainly made me feel a lot better until i woke up this morning. To be fair i have been drinking a lot more this season. It seems to dull the pain of watching Saints.

Well, my dad is a pretty well known local jazz musician in the south, and my mother was at one time a very well known blues singer, but as her health got worse, she couldn't sing any more and dad spent a lot of time nursing her and he curtailed his long distance gigs so that he could be nearby if she needed help. She died 4 years ago now, and when he rang me I said I would come up, but he said "I've got a gig tomorrow night" and I said "surely you aren't going to go ahead and play" and he said "what else can I do, I can't sit around feeling sorry for myself" so he just got on with it. It seemed strange at the time, but I see his point entirely, and I see no reason for the players to hide away. It's them that have to brave the public who might give them a right ear bashing. The players for the most part don't give a sh!t about the club or the fans anyway, many of those that helped to get us relegated won't be here next season anyway. Football has a drinking culture FULL STOP... this is not limited to our club, nor the division, nor our country. Sad truth that young men with excessive amounts of cash enjoy living it up. I've heard stories, straight from the mouths of professional footballers about playing with hangovers and having "their best game"

I've heard stories, straight from the mouths of professional footballers about playing with hangovers and having "their best game" That's happened to me on the golf course too ! I have no problems with the players going out after the season has finished, they should live by tight rules during the season (particularly before matches) but when it's over then it's up to them !! The9 Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Football has a drinking culture FULL STOP... this is not limited to our club, nor the division, nor our country. Sad truth that young men with excessive amounts of cash enjoy living it up. I've heard stories, straight from the mouths of professional footballers about playing with hangovers and having "their best game" Having been teetotal until I was 24 and then scored a hat-trick in a County League match (including a dribble from my own half) the day after my first adult drunken sesh (I had 16 bottles of alcopops and got dragged out of bed by a teammate called Rambo 30 minutes before kickoff and threw up three times during the game) I can relate to that kind of "best match hungover" stuff. However, aside from the difference in pro/semi pro football and the responsibility to your employer, the point is that players who don't maintain the necessary dietary requirements can't sustain the highest level their bodies are capable of or perform to the best of their ability over a longer period of time, but one-off fluke performances are still possible despite this, just as being fit and sober doesn't guarantee a good performance. Surely the point here is that none of them is playing for Saints any time soon anyway, and it's not like it's going to affect their pre-season, so who cares ? Do you think that they won't be sober enough to start the next game ..which is in August I think. They have a holiday until training starts in mid June, so it's best that they relax and get rid of their stress now, rather than stay home and cry about it. Smirking_Saint Posted 7 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 7 May, 2009 My point exactly. basically i heard some info and thought... well this is a forum, somewhere to share info and thought some people may like to know. As i stated, my point was not the fact they were ****ed up, we all get ****ed up and they are young men at end of the day. My point really was that last weekend i was pretty devastated we are now lounging in league 1. (yes i know it was confirmed before that) And that i hoped we had players at the club that cared, take a leaf out of surmans book.

kpturner Posted 7 May, 2009 Share Posted 7 May, 2009 And that i hoped we had players at the club that cared.....Getting ******ed after a match (or not doing so) isn't really much of an indication of whether you care or not - its just an indication of what you like to do with your spare time after all is done and dusted. I used to get hammered (win, lose or draw) after a match because that was what the weekend was for. Now I have to put the kids to bed and watch Britains Got Talent with a bottle of wine and the missus.
