The "I can't wait for next season" thread

For the first time in years i'm well up for next season. Lowe is gone and is no more than the death rattle of a bitter man and we will have new owners and a new start. The hangover from our premiership days is now gone and we can start enjoying watching the football again. It's going to be the best season we've had since 2003 (maybe not in resullts but in being a Saints fan) and when we eventually get back into the Championship we'll all be there with the right attitude - greatful for being there. I can't ****ing wait - bring it on. We're on the eve of a new dawn and in a few years time now will be looked back at as the time when we started rising again.

lol we said exactly the same last season. rememeber pre-season? "playing the best football for years.... these kids could be a revelation next year..... lowe hasn't done anything wrong...yet"

If you can't have hope at the start of a season, when can you have it?

I can't wait for next season either, totally agree with the opening post to the thread, I really feel like next season (despite the 10 point deduction) will be a good one to be a Saints fan. However.

Thursday is gonna be a massive day. Come on Millwall...

I really really want to see Leeds at St Marys next season.

I'd rather see us playing Millwall next year as my mate is a Millwall fan.

Come on Leeds...

:p

Has anyone supported a professional sports team that has gone tits up and folded?

I have. Not a huge club but a club that was top of their league, won every trophy going and packed out their arena - it was brilliant.

Next season due to no support form the business community, the council and sponsors they folded dead - gone, kaput.

You know what? I survived.

Who's "we"? I remember watching Saints play West Ham in a pre-season friendly and thinking we were in the brown stuff then. (Although it took a while to realise how deep the brown staff was).

Personally, I agree with Stanley - I'm really looking forward to next season. I've saved up for a season ticket and look forward to going to as many away games as possible (just for the kudos of saying "I was there at Yeovil/Swindon/wherever" in a few years time.

(All assuming we do get bought of course).

I really cant wait for it!

My first season off away days & can't wait for the dirty leeds bastards!

For some reason, I have a real feeling we could develop a little hate with Norwich (off my tractor) City.

You're not a new member of the yoof are you?

Please keep away from me.

Following Solent Stars (not the Lowe loving numpty on here) at the same time as Saints in the early eighties, was a wonderful time. The 1st British team to win a European Cup match and finals at Wembley and The Albert Hall.

Happy days. :)

Not for me, I want Saints to play their part in sending Millwall down another tier if i am honest. Also, Leeds will always be contenders in this league, so I would rather have a team like Millwall who yo-yo and hence are much less of a threat to our campaign. They are one of he teams that i will really enjoy overtaking once we claw back the 10 point deficit.

Oh, League 1 is gonna be so much fun, I too can't wait.

Well said Stanley, that sounds like the real spirit of Saints.

As a fan of 50 years standing (most of it under the West Stand at The Dell)

The memory of a place in " the third division " is not strange to me, but it really doesn't matter that much.

Just like you I look forward to the next Saints game (and win) regardless of who is manager or centre-forward.....another game!

COYR !!!!!!!!

We cannot sell season tickets

We have no idea which (if any) players we will have

We cannot work on building a squad

We do not know which manager and backroom staff we will have

Do we even know which kit we will have ?

-10 points - at least

Oooo yes. Really looking forward to it...

Not sure if i am or not.

a lot depends on whether we get a good start or not, good start gates of near 20k momentum builds but bad start 14k and the "do not give a dam" thoughts will emerge.

Realism needs to kick in for many, we are likely to have little money, unknown players whose committment will be their strength rather than skill.

It is going to be a lot different more than many expect

I think you are a little off target with your comment on Solentstars.

He's actually critical of all those involved in the board room and is even handed about it. All he wants is Saints to be bought, to move on and hopefully start climbing the divisions.

How do I know? Because I talk to him when our shifts cross.

Hope Leeds beat Millwall & they stay down, Millwall is closer than Leeds & its also another London away day.

Assuming all is well & we get taken over then i can't wait for next season, some pretty good aways days, most of them within 2 hours & a half drive/train away & hopefully we'll be watching a winning team for a change.

So, you won't be going to the games then? ;) I'm looking forward to it, providing we get a manager who knows what he's doing and a squad of players who want to try and make something of their footballing careers.

Surely everyone's already been to Yeovil and Swindon ? We've played them both in pre-season in the last 4 years.

Carlisle's where the kudos lies...

Saw us lose there 1-0 in 75-76, but couldnt afford the next season's game and missed us winning 6-0.

Hope we don't play them in the final game, as they have made a habit of winning it over the past few years. This and Hartlepool better not be midweek games.

I'm actually reassured by this quote - the natural order of the universe is maintained. The day that Alps comes over all optimistic is the day that temperature probes start returning funny readings from Hell, FlyPig opens up at Southampton Airport & it's time to bend over and kiss your Rse goodbye

Thanks to my former life as a Newport County fan until 1989 I've only got 14/23 new grounds to go to (and I've seen 5 of them from the outside already)... and a better Saints fan than me would have checked Scunny, Tranmere, Oldham and Exeter already (maybe P'boro?) too.

Peterborough

MK Dons

Sc'nthorpe

Tranmere

Southend

Huddersfield

Oldham

Colchester

Walsall (been to Fellows Park tho)

Stockport

Hartlepool

Carlisle

Exeter

Gillingham/Shrewsbury

Thanks to my groundhopping plans if Saints go pop I'm going to be adding a few more grounds next season whether we exist or not.

I'm missing Franchise FC, Scunny, Tranmere. Walsall, Yeovil, Hartlepool, Wycombe and Exeter. Plus Shrewsbury if they come up (Rochdale lost on Sunday).

Been to the old grounds at Huddersfield, Bristol Rovers, Colchester (still gives me nightmares) and Brighton.

We might also find some Div 4 grounds if we have a run in the JPT.

think the key to some of my positivity is that its not like we have had a few big names carrying the team with the youngsters and less well known trying to plug the gaps in the team but failing. Euell, Saga, Thomas and Schneiderlin (I suppose for the money we paid) all struggled to stay fit or perform and I don't think will be missed. Unlike say selling Crouch in our first season down.

If they go with BWP, Rasiak, John etc... it won't really hit our starting 11 all that much. If we lost James, Surman, Lallana, Holmes, DMG and others then I think over the summer we'd all change our tune. But I don't think many of them will go and now Coppell's left that was the only real interest in Drew.

But if we keep them and add a few players - with a unified fan base under a new owner with a siege mentality (like Leeds in their first season in L1) then I can see lots of positives. Lots of 'ifs' mind.

Oops, that'll teach me to scan-read other people's posts about who they want to get promoted (lots of Gillingham and Rochadale talk), and I saw Shrewsbury celebrating on SSN as well !

For me it was a shame that Bury or Rochdale didn't make it to the play off finals, as I'll be in Lancashire for the first few weeks of the season :(

I've been to Oldham twice and just the once to Tranmere  still having therapy for that one :p

Leeds,Huddersfield and Carlisle are do-able as long it isn't a mid weeker, but I guess all the Cup games will be regional and down south. :(

Who are we going to be playing pre season  Eastleigh, Salisbury and ToTTon

LOL it really is going to be a strange season if we are still in existence.

I'm actually well up for league 1, it'll be nice to (hopefully) be one of the better sides in a division!

Having said that I wanna get out of that damn league asap!

All this is assuming we exist of course...

Carry on being miserable then, but personally i'm delighted that Lowes is gone and i'm going to get back to enjoying Saints again regardless of results.

Although I may be getting old and forgetfull, I seem to remember that when we fell out of the Premiership and down to "The Championship" ( still 2nd Division in my book), many people felt "We'll walk this league!" and " It is going to be a doddle." Let's not fall for that trap this time. Saints will be the team all the others will want to whack and unless our lot are well organised and motivated from the start to finish we could have a rough time.

Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to a new season with a reinforced team and a host of wins to secure and maybe promote the club.:):):):):)
