I’ve only seen a few games, mostly England’s and the officials have been woeful. If they were somehow competent in applying the rules, VAR use would have been limited and the games less of a farce. Going forward, FIFA need to think about whether having a big toe, foot, leg or whatever is having too much of an advantage to the attacker and if the rule remains as it is many goals are going to go for VAR review unless a clear and simple way to interpret offside is established. The same for any infringement that has an important impact. Perhaps the time when a referee is no longer on the pitch or is there for minor violations is closer than I thought with the fourth official in his high chair, issues verdicts on goals, penalties and red cards through VAR! Or perhaps players will wear technology to help the continuous flow of football rather than the stop start we have at this WC.

It shouldn’t happen if they can’t agree on at least the £15m fee. It weakens the defence too much where at least that amount of money is needed to be reinvested.

I remember Richard Dryden and the 5-0 horror show at Newcastle, in January 2000. A promising start in 96/97 quickly degenerated into anonymity with loans to third division teams and his only and final appearance being the 5-0 loss in the 99/00 season.

As a middling PL club, Saints will always be in danger of flirting with relegation if things do not click into place and of course nothing stands still in the PL, otherwise the club will again be in danger of relegation. So without any PR trappings like the 'Southampton Way', how does a club like ours survive and prosper in the league? Is there anyway we could improve the academy, like Ajax, or A. Madrid who enjoy a 40-45% pathway? Does the black box need new parameters in finding players? What should the playing and support structure of the club look like? How do you attract forward thinking managers like Pochettino or Hasenhuttl rather than 'the hates losing and frets when wins' Pellegrino?

I cannot see us being that lucky in seeing all those depart for money. Perhaps most on loan which in turn will impact any players coming in. Any players arriving will be u24 I reckon. Wages will be lower. Hope to see more academy players given a go as well.

To add to the greyness, there was intent from Cardiff to sign the player - the medical, first contract, promotional photos with player. Nantes completed what they needed and had control over. Cardiff’s incompetence had caused the delay. Maybe Nantes will sue Cardiff because they messed up???
