BBC Article - The inside story of the great Southampton sell-off
Supersubpuckett replied to Donatello's topic in The Saints
Not an inside story at all, just a generic swipe at the club using some stuff we all know. Looking forward to The inside story of the great southampton buy in and how they remained a reasonable force in the premier league - I'm sure mr ben smith will be writing that one too!! -
If she is selling and therefore happily cashing in on star players, then why do they need to chuck a hissy fit in order to leave? This is something that doesn't quite add up. Also, how come everton managed to hang on to their little starlet? They have no money and very little prospect of CL football yet have convinced barkley to stay.

oh ffs, get over it girls

I've worked in very senior commercial roles for very well known businesses and have experience of these sorts of deals - if it is worth £1m year then all i can say is its a staggeringly bad deal. To be a premiership team that finish well into the top 10, playing attractive football with all the other positive attributes this club boasts to then go and agree a deal worth sweet faaak all in the scheme of things is shocking. The deal is good for veho (who ffs) and i dare say their saints supporting MD has a permanent hard on, but i simply can't believe thats the best we could do. So bad its almost funny.

bit disappointed we couldn't be a bit more inventive than copying sunderland/sheff utd/brentford/exeter/lincoln obv better than last season.....although a piece of d0g**** would also have been better
-
Its all a bit of a shame - feels like a bitter divorce. Especially as we ended up giving bompey 25% of the fee! I'd like to think he was being badly advised and mis-represented in the press and on social media but there's too much about him being a bit of a cokc. I think complete silence when his name is called out is what his ego will hate the most......followed by a big fat cheer for SRL.
-
This. Sums it up nicely. Even more frustrating that the club aren't making any statements that address the situation head on.

if KL is so desperate to sell why has she waited four years to do so? the club will have been worth its most the moment out 8th place was confirmed and we had all our prime assets in place. they will struggle to attract a manager of any decent calibre if the strategy is to sell off all our decent players. i think we will always have lost shaw and possibly lallana for the right price, lambert has a chance to fulfill his boyhood dream at the end of his career and mopo had a chance to manage a big name top six club in the best league in the world. lets calm down a bit and wait and see what happens
-
christ i hope not - we'll be back in the championship 12 months from now. adkins showed us what zero prem experience achieves in the first half of the season.....add to that a new squad with the remnants of the team from the recent "glory" years and its got relegation written all over it we need someone who can attract decent players and who knows how to handle top flight football - that ain't eddie howe

Agree with a lot of that sentiment but I do believe the buck (or puck) stops with the board. Reading between the lines Poch was clearly looking for a signal of the same ambition that cortese had, he obviously hasn't had that and as an ambitious manager himself wants to work for a club that does have top 4 as a resourced objective. Likewise all our talent, which was recruited/developed under the old plan, will now want to head to clubs who are also seeking champions league football. As a measure, we could easily have finished above spuds next season with the same team and manager in place plus a couple of additions. Now all our current peer group are going to be crowing about how amazing they are with their new recruits whilst we drop down the table and I can really see us fighting to stay away from relegation next season. Especially with Leicester and QPR coming up. Either cortese's plan was financially unrealistic and the party we could never afford for the past 5 years has come to an end OR the new board simply don't have the foresight and drive to speculate for future success. Either way its quite depressing.
-
if he goes, despite us reportedly offering him good money, then it will be because spurs are offering him the ambition and support to get into the top 4 - nicola had the same vision here. based on this i assume the ambition of saints fc is no longer top 4, 6 or even 8! perhaps just a stable club in the prem - much better than a few years back but quite a sudden come down after the last few seasons. if i was lallana et al i'd be off like a shot.

How about mopo to atletico?
-
new spurs manager to be discussed on sunday supplement shortly Ashton plus Mail editor on the show - cue hysteria
-
Odds are driven by how much activity is taking place which will be influenced heavily by what people are reading in the press. So if all the papers say mopo is off the spurs then lots of people bet on this and the odds come down. Its therefore easy to see why people connect the stories which sky peddle about and the betting on skybet.

morgan - been with the club for a long time, guaranteed to start every game and someone the other players look up to. I don't think rickie will be starting enough next season to warrant being the 1st choice skipper.
-
He would have signed up if he saw a plan/project that he liked, including reassurances about player policy, so I'm guessing that isn't forthcoming which should worry us - not just from whether poch will be leading the team next year but also just how many of our players will get sold. Krueger talked of a modest and realistic ambition (or something like that) when he joined, which for me means not pushing for further improvement but a consolidation of our position as an 8th-10th placed team. This means our youth policy will take a step back to selling for a profit. Shame. Krueger comes across as a nice guy, albeit slightly preppy north american corporate, but I think he's going to be pretty ruthless in his execution of the new plan. Selling the silver with a smile on his face, telling us that its the most realistic and sensible way for the club to operate and how the amazing fans of the southampton saints soccer squad are thrilled to still be in the premeeership league. I really hope I'm wrong and will dine on an old shoe if I am.....

Luke and Adam might stay Or they might go Or one might stay and one might go insightful stuff.....

Positive Lallana comments expressed just 4 months ago
Supersubpuckett replied to Saint-Beer's topic in The Saints
I'm sure he'll take a view on all this once he understands the new ambition of the club, which for me feels a little more modest than under nic, so if continued advancement and further recruitment of better players doesn't happen then i'm sure he'll go elsewhere. Wouldn't you? -
lovren - man utd shaw - chelsea morgan - arsenal lallana - many many possibilities get used to it

I feel very positive about freddie - he is obviously very talented with a proven track record but more importantly he appears to already have a strong emotional connection. He spoke with meaning about his relationship with KL and clearly considers the clubs relationship with the fans to be of upper most importance. I thought it was interesting to hear him comment on how they don't need to prepare what they are going to say and that they will be open in everything they do, stark contrast to the don. Good news he can see how we can increase the commercial success of the club (not sure what that idiot was on about in one of the earlier posts) so I hope he is successful there. Lots of smiling and charisma, so I hope it is a happy place for everyone to work. My only concern is the way he framed the future, talking about operating within our true means (or something like that) and having ambition to match. Makes me think that the big champions league winning target has been replaced with an objective we can afford. I hope it doesn't mean we will sell too many players but we need to accept that some will go - Lallana and Shaw this summer for sure. You can't turn £60m down. I wouldn't be surprised to see stripes back next season.

reckon this is another defeat - we don't seem to like the rough boys
-
this is another stoke/west ham game - ugly and we'll get muscled off the park. a horrible 1-0 defeat beckons.
-
i think they will tear us a new one whichever team we put out..and its on telly....hopefully not too embarassing
-
i can see west ham digging out a horrible 1-0 win with plenty of injuries along the way
