i think we will lose this, they look very good and we're tiring
-
maybe its meant in the context that a penalty claim is totally defensible, i.e. it can't be or shouldn't be challenged, hence stonewall. get over yourselves

i think giving him the silent treatment will affect him more, his ego will love a bit of booing and will probably spur him on. It is such a shame how his departure was handled by whoever advised him, terrible PR, but he was brilliant for us and stuck around when he could have gone a few years back. Boo and jeer him but expect him to up his game and probably score. If he does, his celebration will tell us all we need to know about how he feels about us.

New domestic TV deal announced today, 5pm

A high proportion of the money should go straight to championship clubs and below, right the way to local clubs with a decent youth structure. Then the prem clubs should be obligated to drop ticket prices and increase capacity, e.g. SMS becomes a 45k stadium with tickets at £20 - filled every week, better atmosphere, sky happy, fans happy. A proportion could also go into the local communities, esp as most clubs are in the armpits of their respective city's or towns. How much more money to the footballers need........oh ok, maybe not. Maybe also a couple of million to pay off michael owen and get him off the mic! -
The weight of expectation is very real and will certainly be greater at Liverpool or even Tottenham than it is at Saints. It's no different to pressure any of us could experience in our own jobs. It will no doubt be one of the contributing factors to Lovren's terrible season - he went from low expectation of himself in a team where the pressure to deliver meant finishing in the top half, to a club steeped in a successful footballing history where he was billed as the new £20m man at the back. Massive difference for him and he will have felt it which makes him far more conscious of how he is playing and therefore once it goes wrong it goes really wrong. I would also add that Saints appear to have a very supportive environment which will help take the pressure off of the players, my perspective is that the culture at Liverpool isn't like this. Spurs similarly have an expectation, rightly or wrongly, that they should be Top 4 where any manager that can't deliver this for them has somehow failed. I bet the pressure Poch is under is many times greater than Koeman is experiencing.

I think it's great that some clubs support the growth of womens football. It's our nations most popular team sport so not surprising that girls want to play it within an organised structure. If my daughter wants to play for her local side then I would be as proud to watch her do that as I do my son. Having said that I have no time for the degree to which the national media force it down our throats, celebrate it like they've discovered the secret of alchemy and try to tell us we should like it. Sadly it's not a good watch and is many many times less absorbing and exciting than the mens game. Mens football has had over 100 years to get itself to where it is now, so it's steeped in history and deep rooted passionate support. Womens football is new and needs to build, which means it has to entertain and for the large proportion of followers of mens football it is miles off the mark as they are comparing it to the men game. They need to find their own audience but I'm not sure who that will be aside than other women that play football and a few salivating lesbians.......so let them grow their version of the game but not via a petition, surely not every societal issue connected with women needs to be made a politcal one!

maybe we couldn't afford to buy him as well as bertrand this window so need to wait until the summer when we will no doubt sell one or two for chunky fees.

i think rooney and van persie will destroy our defence today first humping of the season
-
good god we were sh1te in the 90s - one relegation battle after another
-
Fonte would be a great back-up CB, he's not top 6 (assuming thats our ambition in the next 2/3 years) - he used to wobble a bit in L1.
-
Incredible if they did, ITV have NEVER been good at live sport and their last run of PL highlights was fookin terrible however no chance the PL/broadcasters will take any notice - michael owen is still on bt sport despite the abuse he/they get every time he opens his dull mouth. I particularly remember elton welsby from their 80s coverage - truly awful.
-
one win, two draws if we play well - our defence hasn't been tested by a top quality attack yet and these games will be a true test of our level and potential to sustain a top 4 spot. whatever, we have nothing to lose as everyone seems to expect us to do badly.....will be interesting.
-
so when poch left he said the club an him have different ambitions.....is this what he meant? hahahahahahahahahaha love it
-
For once a decent and balanced piece of journalism - makes a difference when more than one source of information is used. Hopefully all this positive coverage isn't the prelude to a humping at spuds!

Liverpool this season are showing us all how important suarez was to them last season, they are a top 6 side now seemingly captained by a grumpy old campaigner. How talksport or anyone can describe this as part of rebuilding I'm not sure. Rebuilding from what? Finishing second?? We need to be comfortable with the fact that the media (esp ex professional pundits) will always laugh at our ambitions and patronise our "fleeting" successes, whilst continuing to hope that their former clubs capture the form that once made them great (actually that might just be a phil thompson/liverpool thing).

Martin Samuel p*sses in our pool again.....
Supersubpuckett replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
OMFG that is such a bad article, desperately trying to make a story out of nothing - it's also deeply patronising. Do people honestly believe that the board are thinking we can sell off half the 1st team every year and survive?? Jesus, give them some credit - what a load of bullsh1t. What the **** is all that about Leeds and Wimbledon!! It's the sort of thing you'd write if you were bitterly jealous, like a carefully crafted preemptive "told you so". -
He's worth way more than £25m or thereabouts. Given all his amazing performance stats what price would he be if at one of the big clubs. £40m+ easily.

The stitching referred to is what most cheap clothing labels use and anyone with a micro-ounce of rag trade knowledge knows this. So clearly the club have either employed a seriously incompetent moron to source our gear or they knowingly went into this maybe hoping the stuff wouldn't get wrecked quite so easily. Having said that my son still wants one.....
-
Something like this for me, maybe with Long interchanging with JWP/Davis. No idea why people suddenly think Fonte is amazing, he is very average - remember he and Jos were a fookin shambles as a pairing when we went up.
-
I'd sell him, not sure many players have come back as good after an injury like that - also I never thought he was prolific enough, especially given the number of chances he got.

Why do some transfers take SO long ?
Supersubpuckett replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
I think it's the nature of negotiations, especially things as complex as people plus what we hear about or don't. The constant media speculation makes some signings appear to take longer. I certainly hope those obnoxious tw4ts at Sky don't have a say - all that yellow/black branding last night was really naff. I thought the jock totaliser man was going to shoot his load live on air at one point. -
Gaston Ramirez to Seville on Loan (Rumour)
Supersubpuckett replied to saint-ross's topic in The Saints
lallana and mopo are the two departures that will hit us the most - we should have paid to keep them. Spurs already look very very good and AL wasn't described as Mr Southampton for nothing. We've gone from a solid team unit to a bunch of journeyman and reminds me too much of the mid 2000's. -
Probably exactly how he will market it....one of effective stewardship, turning a financial and structural mess into a sound commercial opportunity for a new investor whilst at the same time recouping lost investment for the large german lady and a nice big fat lump of commission for himself. If the way he handles the press with his evasive, political corporate claptrap is anything to go by then no wonder the players want out. The bloke would appear to be a massive kok and reminds me of jan poortvliet on steroids.
