  1. "In a statement on the club’s website, the Burnley chief executive, Lee Hoos, said....." IIRC, isn't he ex-Saints? We need to call in favours
  2. Daily Star reporting Cork officially rejecting Saints offer. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/422756/Southampton-Jack-Cork-Swansea-move-rejecting-new-deal
  3. It gets his signature NOW rather than standing in line at the end of the season with all the other suitors. Yes, if we know he will sign for us at the end of the season, no need to fork out £15M at all, just a modest signing on fee to the player who would be available. Do we risk it?
  4. If a deal to buy him now and loan him back - a "sale and leaseback" - is attractive to Burnley (which the link suggests is what Liverpool will offer) then we should make that offer too. He is a Saints supporter and may be of interest. Getting something in for Ings AND having him play for them all season is a winner for Burnley.
  5. Good show. Definitely part of our plans, and a future full international.
  6. From watching MOTD last Saturday, I was of the feeling that Jon Stead would be a useful addition, as a backup squad player. Good at holding the ball up and playing team mates in. Looked very Pelle-esque.
  7. Yeah, agree with Saint Pete and Sour Mash. Shame this has developed and this has now spilled out into the public arena. Come on, Jack, please sign.
  8. Well, in the words of Del and Rodney outside the auctioneers - "we've had worse days!"
  9. We made him wait long enough before we offered him a contract, so we can't complain if he makes us wait before signing it. Hopefully he does. But maybe the delay has made him wonder how much we want him.
  10. Didn't we get Townsend from Weymouth for £30k - if memory serves. Pretty good as a player for us, then moved "on" to Villa. Of course, these days that would be a step DOWN but in those days Villa were a top 6 team. Agree he's not the best commentator/pundit. I actually quite like Matt Smith though. He makes the wednesday night footie quite exciting, and with Strachan to control that's pretty good.
  11. Like the sound of what he says tonight. Now do it on the pitch, and we will be behind him. As the young'uns put it : you talk the talk, now walk the walk.
  12. Are you sure it's us? Or St Johnstone? Can't see why we need another youngster unless we want to put him in the academy.
  13. If he's not properly injured, he ought to shut up. Sounds like Senegal will want to assess him at the least, so likely a trip overseas. Poo.
  14. But surely he was eligible to play the original tie, as his transfer was dated 3rd Jan. He wasn't selected for it as he wasn't match fit. He may get some game time vs Man U, and may be given more game time vs Piswich? Where is my logic in error, peeps?
  15. Great to see him playing so well again. Kudos to Koeman for moving him central because how I can see how he scored so many for Red Star! He is a different player!
  16. Exactly. I expect Jack's situation to be resolved this month, hopefully this week. And if we can get Toby and Ryan B on perm deals too, that is the way to go.
  17. You think so? I read it more that he is pee'd off at having to play as DM and getting the odd 20 mins cameo at that. In his mind, I'm sure he still sees himself as a 90 minutes AM. And Brenda doesn't. And under Brenda LFC won't win anything. Stevie just says "I'm out. I can play full games elsewhere in the role I want." And I tend to agree with Stevie.
  18. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?52911-Man-up!#.VKVPOtKsWik old news! I started this Fred yesterday.
  19. Southampton urged one of its supporters to pluck up the courage to ask out a girl he liked on its official Twitter feed. A Saints fan got in touch with the club to try to find out the name of a supporter sat near him. The club tweeted: "Man up and ask if she fancies a drink - no lady can resist a hot Bovril." http://www.bbc.co.uk/gossip
  20. My fantasy team includes Terry, Cahill and Costa, and I'm top of my mini-league. Even so, I want a Saints win. Southampton 4 (Clyne 4) Chelsea 3 (Terry, Cahill, Costa) ps. I also have Clyne in my fantasy team, but you may have guessed that by now.
  21. JWP instead of Tadic, and I'd probs start with Mane and use Long as supersub. Otherwise, like what you said, bruv.
  22. I'm not a grandad, but maybe you're not as old as me and remember a player named Teddy Sheringham. He didn't score as many goals as others in his role as second striker, but you ask the main strikers that he did play with eg Alan Shearer and they will tell you how fantastic he was. Long is like that. High on effort and workrate, a team player. We all agree that he isn't worth £12M but that isn't his fault. He will alternate with Mane and Jay Rod for the 2nd striker role.
  23. I'm confused too. Only one up front? Pelle?
  24. Maybe today is the day!
  25. That rationale I do agree with. If Rickie can talk Brenda into stamping his leave pass, such that Brenda can see it as a win/win/win for all parties, then it might happen. Everyone's a winner, as Delboy used to say.
