Lallana possibly going for £5m, which is nice.
Greenridge replied to buctootim's topic in The Saints
Couldn't agree more. I saw most of the early season games and was in the company of some current professionals as well as coaches and they all pointed to him as the stand out player who could go on to better things. Disappointing that his form deserted him and no one seemed to be able to pinpoint why but he didn't look comfortable in the position he was being asked to play. However £5M in the current climate doesn't equate. -
Really Yes you're absolutely right of course and as I've said I'm no supporter of Crouch and he has had many cringe-worthy moments both during and since his tenure. However he comes across as a fan first and foremost and for that he has my respect as opposed to many others who have had dividends, share benefits and other financial rewards (IT contracts etc) that have not put some of that money back into the Club when it is really needed. And like many I'd like to see a clean sweep but in the meantime if his funds keep the Club afloat then hats off to him.
-
Now there's a surprise. Any particular elements? ...and before you come up with a witty retort I'm no Crouch supporter but he clearly has tried to support the Club in a number of ways, including financially, that others in his position have not.
-
And therein lies the basis of the argument. In fact there can be no argument.

He may well be able to cut it in League 1 although I've seen little to suggest he's the man for the job either in team selection, tactics and particularly the lack of motivation he seems to be able to impart into the team.
-
I'd share a similar view to that. I haven't heard the interview but he does have a track record of shooting from the hip in a somewhat uncontrolled manner at times. Still, at least he's not going round telling everyone it's not his fault.

The players owe us nothing less than two wins now, agreed?
Greenridge replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
It would seem that Wotte has struggled with trying to motivate the team on a weekly basis and now with the rug effectively pulled from underneath them I don't see any reason why he should be able to change that trend. -
Massively over-rated by many and a lightweight. Has had a very poor season in a very poor team and hardly put himself in the shop window - well perhaps the Pound Shop I s'pose.

League deduct 10 Points - Will apply in L1 Next Season
Greenridge replied to Danny's topic in The Saints
It's such a crying shame for every fan of both SFC and football in general. The greed in the game has made it self-implode and there will be many more after us who fall from grace in the same way. It all goes back to the days of that genius Graham Kelly and selling the rights to Sky. It's also a massive poke in the eye for those who supported RL through thick and thin in their tireless support of the Club. His parting gift to us turns out not to be some phenomenal slight of hand of his business acumen to stave of the inevitable points deduction afterall. I'm sure some will insist he was brilliant in the chair however. -
John you say you are interested in the future but spend the majority of the time trying to defend the indefensible. History has shown that Lowe has made a catalogue of mistakes that have compounded the mistakes that others also made during his absence from the Chair. If shaving a few £10's of K's of the coaching budget has meant relegation do you think this is money well spent because the banks certainly didn't.

Congratulations to NP and Leicester. A club model we should follow next season without any eccentric experiments. Disappointing to see that this thread has also been invaded by the top angler fishing for bites. The thread is to congratulate NP not make petty snidey comments. Start a new one for that if you really feel the need.

It was an away game or did that element go over your head? It was also a very well supported away game. When you have lost any possibility of a structured argument I guess all you have left to blame is the fans eh Sunny D.

What an absolutely horrorific performance....

As you rightly point out Chez it was potentially a completey false economy and if (we will never know of course) it is the difference between CCC status and Lge 1 then it really was a myopic strategy. They could quite easily of found the £200K (if it really needed to be found) somewhere in amongst Pekhart, Pulis, Forecast et al

Sounds positive. Looking on SSN stats I see they show possession as something like 59/41 in favour of Watford.

Mr Fry must be your man I imagine

Martin Samuel (Mail) The Saints, The Sinners...
Greenridge replied to .comsaint's topic in The Saints
...and of course the PLC came in to being many years before the points deduction system was introduced so any benefit that comes is purely by chance and not intentional? -

...I guess the argument is if we go down this year that will be twice -

An interesting summary by Samuel and goes to demonstrate that the likely outcome is far from concluded. I have to agree that they are stalling for time in the hope that we'll go down and then they'll be able to close the loop hole for future, similar scenario's. -
If you had to describe this season in one sentence...

Is this John B? -
I don't think anyone's trying to run him out of the club, the original poster raised a valid question as to why his form has dipped which is patently the case. Just a point for discussion nothing more sinister. He will come good again, he probably has a greater chance than any to make the grade but whether it's confidence, tactics, injuries, socialising, Johnny big time-itis or whatever then at the moment it's not happening for him. A good man-manager should be in a position to spot the cause and help him come out of the other side.
-
That's exactly how he has come across I agree. Such a shame when he could be using these interviews to benefit the Club rather than massage his own bruised and deflated ego.
-
UP maybe you could keep the teams that played in blue in the stats but not those in red or white or yellow. Or maybe it was the other way round I'm not sure but some combination (other than those that showed the increase under Crouch of course) will please your debating opponents I'm sure...

Now that IS funny

Sorry, I'm trying to keep track of all the threads running so may have missed what the outcome of the 10:00am Press Conference was? Did it go ahead?
