Absolutely ridiculous. It is a league rule that if you have 3 or more players called up you can postpone a game. Saints would have no option to object, it is a rule. As for Plymouth's responsibility to sign players available during the season - so if Guly, Fonte and Lallana for instance are called up you wouldnt want our game called off then ? Plymouth have no money, are in administration. I would think getting any player from anywhere is difficult enough. There are other teams and circumstances apart from Southampton you know.

Well Brian Howard played the last 5 mins for Reading in the FA Cup today but has only played 16 League games for them this season so he is by no means a regular.....and he is obviously not out injured. He would do :-)

Back in the Keegan era he would always be outside The Dell and come and stand at the back of the Lower West Stand for the last 10 minutes when they opened the gates. Was always on the same train as me coming back. He is supposedly an eccentric who is quite well off.

To be fair whenever he has come on in the last few games he has looked quite good, and I didnt rate him particularly, but he looks a decent player. Once again you have fallen into the usual trap of commenting about a specific player who you have not actually seen play.

If you think that would have worked I think you are being a touch naieve in all honesty. Do you really believe a press conference held on, say 17th January - the end of the mid/early period you state - would have prevented the media, written or otherwise, from wild speculation by the 24th January, a week later ? If it didnt stop them on 8 December when the original interview came out, it sure as hell was never going to stop mid way through the frenzy month of January.

Difference is players contracts come to an end in the summer or, if their clubs dont win somethinmg or gain promotion, players decide they want to move on. Always much easier buying players in the close season than in January for any number of reasons, including the inflated prices asked for in January which we obviously, and quite rightly, refused to pay.

Didnt NC state that the speculation surrounding Chamberlain completely screwed up our attempts to buy players for a reasonable sum as the clubs approached kept on about the amount of money we were about to get from Arsenal or Man Utd or Liverpool or Chelsea for him ?

If you think the reaction on here is OTT you should have heard Solent on the way home last night. Merrington, Blackmore, Williams and that skate who once appeared for us (play is too strong a word, he was garbage) went into meltdown....then denied they were slagging the club off !!

I am more concerned about tonight than I am Saturday. We are expected to win, and win comfortabky tonight. Saints dont often do the expected !

I think they are building this game up much more than Saints are. They see it as a very very special day, the chance to beat "them up the road" and I think the pressure might tell on them. Besides, they have to lose under Bradbury at some point, and at home too ! COYS !
