Vlaar had a great season before the world cup and looked great in Brazil, he hasn't been that bad in an awful Villa side this season and I think his injury record in the UK is decent would be a relatively low risk signing as he is on a free.

would be happy with the lad from Celtic to be honest he looks decent and should prove a good investment wouldn't say no to Vlaar as well provided wages are sensible he might not be absolutely top draw but he is a solid experienced defender at this level.

Doubt we will bring in two 15 million players and frankly given our success rate in that price bracket I's rather we didn't 8 million or so should see us a decent centre back and I'm expecting a similar amount for a midfielder. then we will add one or two younger others to bulk the squad and give us potential for the future.

Totally agree the close season just brings out the Muppets ad with no football going on to drown out their incessant nonsense it all gets a bit much. We are a good club with good players punching a bit above our weight we will never be Liverpool/Spurs we could build a 60'000 seat stadium but we'd never fill it except maybe when the big 4 come to town we just simply don't have the fan base. The only thing that could ever move us to the next level is a sugar daddy or an incredibly lucky class of '92 moment from the academy. Until then I'll carry on supporting the saints as we are, for so many years of my life we have been relegation fodder I never thought I'd see us challenging at the top of the table if we could add a cup (or two) this would easily be the most successful period in the clubs history and would leave me happy for along time if we returned to the other end of the league.

Which is the whole point in loans! If Elia had maintained the form he showed against Newcastle we would have had a 40 page thread saying sign him up, he didn't so we sent him back nothing lost and really a little gained as he had a positive impact in at least one game! Expensive gambles like Ramirez are what we need to avoid if we are spending 10-15 million we need to know what we are getting in future!

The same way it happened with Billy Sharp every season before he disappeared out on loan when the real action started? I'm not saying we won't see Gaston in the stripes this season but I would be very surprised if he features regularly in the league!

Are you really sure about that, for me he is just a dedicated troll. I think this is last roll of the dice stuff from saints like you say hoping to frighten spurs into thinking that they will have 15 million tied up in a player who is ineligible for half a season as we chase his registration through the courts. Personally I think if we want any chance of getting him we need to say to AM that we will match spurs bid and retract the threat of legal action if they sell to us otherwise this is just going to be an expensive court case that makes us look petty and actually gets us very little in real terms.

This story seems to be rumbling on and on, it looks to me like it will come down to two sums of money and one question of football: - What are we willing to pay Athletico and does that match other bids? - What are we willing to pay Toby in wages and is it comparable to other offers? - What European football can we offer? I think we will get there on the first one, he is certainly at the upper end of what we can afford but the club have shown in the last few years that 10-15 million is price we are willing to pay. The second one is tricky, we clearly cannot afford to match his Athletico salary it would smash our wage structure and no doubt trigger massive pay rises for players already on the books who would be pretty hacked off, but I don't think we need to necessarily we just need to get close enough to what other clubs offer that Toby is willing to accept it. It looks to me like his experience at Athletico has left him waiting to join a club where he knows he will play and be wanted and we are the only club who can say that is exactly what you'll get with anything to back it up. So for me if we get within 5-10K of what another comparable club ie spurs offer him then we are in with a chance. The final question is simple he won't come to us if a club with regular champs league football is in for him but we should be comparable to spurs etc on this regard.

I would definitely like to see us in the running for him, he is young and clearly has talent and we need another big money gamble at the club after loosing Osvaldo!

Seriously you only just figured this out! Sports journalists make things up to sell papers or get people watching it happens all the time ignore 99% of the speculation as that is all it is! Toby was going to Chelsea last week then staying with us and now he has signed for spurs apparently while in reality he has been getting married and going on honeymoon and is probably having far to much fun with his new wife to be taking calls from his agent!

No real quotes or other information is Matt Law often ITK regarding Spurs transfers or is this more media speculation? I'm sure last week he was nailed on for Chelsea!

Can't see it happening modern footballers seem to think getting their agent to have a word with the daily mail is handing in a transfer request! Wayne bridge did though and I did think lallana might so you never know!

A good signing for me I've thought all along he was one we might go for given his availability on loan, fingers crossed he finds his best form for us I don't think a bad player has ever got 50 caps for Holand! would still like to see a young up and coming number 2 come into the club someone to push the first choices in a way Gazza and Davies simply don't.

Keeper is the position that worries me most at the minute and I really hope the club move quickly for a top quality player, we've done well getting some up and coming players in already this window but with Forster out I really think we need a proven option in goal. Ospina is a decent shout he had a good season for Arsenal by all accounts beyond that we need a cntre back which fingers crossed will be Toby but if he doesn't sign I'd hope we will look to bring in someone of real quality to play alongside Fonte. Some funny ones in this thread, would love to see Mitrovik here but can't see it his record says bigger club all over it or maybe we can convince him to do a Benteke and use us as a stepping stone?

Can't stand it the green and blue combo is horrible and the way the sash stops before the shoulder strips and doesn't flow to the bottom of the shirt when it hits the seam to the back looks really cheap! Oh well it's only an away kit for a season just can't help but think the same think in yellow and blue would have looked nicer and it wasn't like I was going to buy one anyway!
