Sky Sports feature on Soton

Quite a good feature, saying that the players have returned to training very early....

...however, I almost vomited when I saw the wage slips being handed out in a car park full of plush cars... Hardly deserving... but ah well, nothing we can do about it I suppose... :smt078

Wotton (paraphrasing as I can't remember the exact words) - When we thought we were not going to get paid it was like real life.

In my opinion what Wotton was saying was nothing short of disgraceful. Saying how he was worrying about things as he's got kids to pay for. What about the guys that work in the club shop or in catering etc.. Does he not think they have kids to pay for on a salary considerably less than him?

He's been a professional footballer for around 10 years no doubt drawing a healthy salary. Would have been nice for him given his age and experience to give the non-playing staff of SFC a mention before himself.

so a 30+ year old facing the risk of losing his job and finding hard to get another one as football is all he has known has no right to be worried???

Why were they salary advices being handed out in the car park?

Sounds a bit dodgy.

Were they in brown paper bags? ..... if so it must mean that either Redkrap is on his way back  or the club can't afford the usual pay slip envelopes and are using up all the bown paper bags that Redkrap left behind ;)

You might not like high earners worrying if they dont know where there money is coming from but thats life. the more you earn the more you spend so to lose your income the fall is sometimes allot further than it maybe for someone on a low income. If I lost my job I can replace my income with a wide range of jobs that shouldnt be too hard to get.

If Football was my job and it was the only thing I had ever trained for there are not many other jobs out there that can substitute that kind of income and my tidy pension would be about 30 years away.

The situation that allows footballers to be paid obscene amounts of money is more to blame and should be addressed IMO.

I fecking hate Wotte, as soon as the takeover happens he should be first out the door. I'd happily pay for his one-way ticket back to Holland.

Useless dutch c u n t

Stop sitting on the fence. Why not say what you really feel?

Just had it on.

Wonder where Wotte got his tan ;)

Out of a bottle.

Tuesday arrives and still no news. Looks like we are going to have to wait till the last minute. Can't imagine Pinnacle want the delay so must be the briefs on t'other side delaying everything.

Its not like Wotton has spent 10 years playing in the Premier League either, although I'm sure he's done alright for himself the past few years. But I bet the guy has a family and mortgage to worry about like the rest of us.

Sorry. Isn't that what this forum is for?

If we ever did get taken over by the likes of Paul Allen, signed the best players in the world and won the Champions League every year, we'd still have people on here moaning about the pies being too hot.

Wotton may not have every been a massive earner but I'm pretty sure he would have been drawing a wage of more than £3k a week throughout the 10 years he has been playing regular first team football. That equates to over £1.5m earnt in his career, lets take half a million off, thats still £1m in career earnings. I am sure he is in a much more comfortable position to miss one or two paycheques than the non-playing staff at St Mary's. One of which is a good friend of mine in corporate sales who has recently bought a house with a friend, only for his friend to bale on him leaving him no option to buy out his half of the property. That is what he should have been focussing on. All the employees at the club drawing salarys between 14k-30k per annum, still with mouths to feed.

I dont begrudge him the money, if I was offered similar amounts I would gladly take it but an ounce of perspective really should have been used before he started commenting on worrying about not getting paid for a month in which he didnt have to work anyway as it was the close season.

and no doubt if he is earning that his mortgage could be 500K + and his kids privately educated. The cost of his living would be high, I thouhgt it was good him mentioning that he appreciated that he was feeling what some in the 'real world' were as well.At least he thought about the others

If your earning 30k a year and you live within your means then thats all you know. If your earning 1 million a year and live within your means it doesnt mean that you will still have a million left in the bank. Sensible thing to do would be to save a big portion of it and live in a small 3 bed semi so you have a wedge to fall back on should the income disapear. Same can be said for those on 30K though. Live in a small 2 bed flat and save the extra income.

It doesnt happen though does it? I guess someone earing a shed load of cash will crap them selves should that wage packet suddenly not turn up just as much if not more than someone on a reasonable wage. We are used to living in and out of Overdrafts and budgeting each months money to make sure our kids are fed. While I dont feel sorry for the rich when they have to live in the real world i dont think his comments were there to offend anyone. It may even make a few of them think a bit more when they go round flashing there cash. I doubt Wotten for instance will be lording it up any time soon as from what he said it sounds like he understands what a few more of us have to go through on a daily basis.

When will people accept Footballers don't live in the 'real world' ?

They ply their trade in an area which is very highly paid, along with the bankers of this world, both do not always do what they are supposed to yet draw their salaries irrespective along with bonuses that most think are not warranted, both invariably take their money indirectly from Joe public, but as long as we continue to feed their industry nothing will change.

Don't see any problem with what Wotton said. He admitted himself that footballers aren't in 'the real world'.

There are probably plenty of people on this site who are paid more than me, doesn't mean I would begrudge them being worried if they didn't get paid. People live to their income.

also if he gets 3k a week by the time he has lost tax and agents fees it will soon be slashed to 2k

Slightly off topic but do you really think Wotton was on 'over £3k a week' when he was playing for Plymouth in L1 in front of 8000 people?
