Yeah Man Utd paid a fortune for Owen.....

The previous regimes did so well didnt they with their policies!

Thats why we are in a division where you have to try and obtain freebies, loans because footballers egoes are as big as houses and dont want to play 3rd div football.

Why do people avoid whats actually written to suit their agenda?

"The bosman area is still one to look at and I don't want to miss any gems that might still be available," he said. "There are players at other clubs under contract that I'd be interested in, but we're primarily looking at players that won't command a transfer fee at the moment

Even if you want to spend a load of money in this league, it's pretty much impossible to do so.

I even saw a quote on a Leeds forum regarding us signing Dan Harding- "Even when you have money it just shows that it's still impossible to spend it in this league".

What actually makes me laugh is that they actually believe there are such things as freebies!

Agents fees, signing on fees, players incentives......comical really.

who is they..?

can think anyone thinks that here..?

lthis time ast season getting in players for nothing or next to nothing was clearly what we had to do...the regime got utterly slaughtered in every way for it by so many...not just questioned but utterly slaughtered..

this season, you could argue that we need to spend on quality..etc

i know why pardew is doing what he is doing etc but that is not the point..

my pointis how fascinating iis that fans view on this are o easily changed..

Fans views have changed because we find ourselves in Div3 for the first time in many of their lifetime. Many are now supporting the new infrastructure because they are fed up with what has gone on before and there is no baggage.

Many are just grateful we now have a club to support and accepting that AP is doing whats right for the club whether that the freebie market or not.

There is a massive difference between what happened last year and the players we had at our disposal - what many people slaughtered including me was the fact we bought in 7 loanees who were absolute ****e!

Where does it say anywhere we wont spend on quality...look at the link and quotes.

I must have missed this. I can't remember a single post or thread decrying the idea of getting in good-quality free signings. As an alternative to pitching the kids in each week, I'm sure a few experienced free signings would have been welcomed especially after the Jan window. But they just weren't made, so how could anyone have been 'slaughtered' for it?

There's an issue about the quality and experience of the few freebies that were signed, like Molyneux and World Class Ryan Smith. But has anyone's view changed about those two?

where has this come from..?

previous regimes will be pulling their hair out wondering where this attitude has been over the last 10 years..

very very odd

What Tosh

Allardyce has been doing it for years, we were always handicapped because of the wage structure we had in place, decent free's are available every summer if you pay the signing on fee and the wages

People need to keep reminding themselves we're in League 1.

... AND

You keep needing to keep reminding yourself that we are in Division Effing 3!

Forget all this re-branding sh*t* put out by the Football League over recent years. Perhaps that we have a realistic chance of ditching this charlatan 'new' Labour crap for ever next spring, maybe we can all get back to the centuries old tradition of calling a spade an Effing spade and being a shade more realistic about evreything.

A healthy dose of realism does nobody any harm as we have found out the hard way this summer.

Let me think now, we had an incredibly young squad already (also refusing to play the few older heads for cost reasons) so we went into the market and got - Forecast, Pulis, Gasmi, Robertson, Pekhart, Smith etc...

Beats me why they got 'slaughtered', it really does ????

Yes but past regimes were letting very good loans and free players pass them by, thats why we were angry, we got left with (mainly) the ****e noone else wanted.

Looking at the list there are some very good players available for next to nothing, this has to be addressed first as naturally many clubs will be looking to snap them up and so they won't be around for long.

Once AP has addressed the free market i am sure he will move on to the other areas that require quality replacements. Be patient. It is silly to disregard the free ones just because we have the money to spend.

Well...players do go out of contract (thank goodness) and it doesn't mean that they are no good either. Relegated clubs, or disappointed ones (Reading?) start to have a clear out and good players come onto the market and can come in and DAJFU. (Example Chris Perry last season.)

With the current financial crisis in football, clubs are trimming their squads (as we did after relelgation 2005). See what comes.

Sometimes a player wants a move, or a manager wants to change his squad around - thats good . New blood, fresh ideas. I've not forgotten that 10 years ago ? ..Dean Richards came to us on a Bosman from Wolves...what a good deal that was. There are sure to be players that AP knows, who he'll go after......and if he wants / needs to spend money, then I'm sure ML won't object.

There have always been signing on fees, removal fees, loyalty fees, and of course their agents %. In this case we don't have to fork out even more in paying another club a transfer fee as well. No problem.

We shouldnt need to spend loads to get out of this league.

It's the quality of freebie that I'm interested in personally, Harding = yes there are plenty of others out there that I would not be interested in.

Personally I'd be delighted with a few more like Harding and Holmes (for this league) and a couple of £250-500k youngsters with a couple of older (free) hands in key positions to act as a steadying influence.

I've never had a problem wit freebies, even in the prem... my issue then (as now) was with quality so while Bolton signed Okocha, Campo, Djorkaeff we signed... Darren Kenton and Mickael Nilsson (and he wasn't even a free, he was supposed to be but we were so desperate to sign him we actually paid good money when we didn't have to).

If Pardew had come out and said that we were only looking at free transfers I think more people on here would be up in arms. The fact is he has just said that it's where he's starting, which is fine, no problem in looking for a cheap option as long as it's not your only plan.

I couldn't care less to be honest, there are enough decent players on the free list to easily compete in this league, so what's the point in spending money if we don't have to? As long as we can afford wages we can choose some quality players for this level.

Why do you persist in this boring question. You've asked on other threads and people have answered, can't you drop it now?

Different division, reality has hit home, div3, a manager we believe in, no more Rupert, a general sense of well being about the club, manager is not a yes man working for a perceived dictator.

Enough for you?

Oh and you don't need to spend a fortune to get out of L1.
