Quote "The Saints boss also revealed that he is also hopeful that trialist Graeme Murty may not be far away from joining the club on a full time basis."

What are we playing at - Murty is not the catch of the season yet there's promise he might join the team.

I am convinced we will not bring any one in who will influence the team- the season starts next weekend!

Jesus Christ. You don't buy a club for near on 15million and let it linger in league 1.

You want a return, you don't get that return in league 1 or being relegated to league 2.

Therefore you HAVE to invest into the team - FACT.

ML is clever and so is Cortese - the liebherr family haven't made their fortune by being idiots.

I have an idea............wait 8 days from the start of the season and then build a team when we are .oh -10 points. Am i the only one that can see this is bad planning.

Yes im happy we have a club and happy we have AP but that doesn't change the facts.

FFS, can we stop the whinging? They've said all along it's not about reckless spending, but steady and sensible progress.

It could well be that Alan Pardew hasn't seen any players that he feel will go for an acceptable price. He did say that he'd be scouring the free transfer market to begin with.

The other thing to factor in is that we're a third tier team starting ten points behind every other in the division. Therefore, to a number of players, we will not be seen as an attractive bet, regardless of club facilities etc.

I think patience is the key word for us here.

How long have they been here? How long has Pardew been here? Not to mention the fact that our pre-season was blighted by the ongoing takeover saga (no-one can be purchased in that time, in all honesty) and then we had a change of manager (change in manager means a change in possible targets, too - which means our shortlist has probably been completely revised)

There is money, I'm sure but it's not as simple as 'oi, fancy a game mate?' and the player is signed.

Also, just because we now have money doesn't mean that we can go out and grab any player we want. We've got to be methodical and clever, I suspect asking valuations have changed since other clubs we know we now have a billionaire in charge and regardless of his spending motives, all they see is pound signs. We'll do well not being held to ransom.

We're probably a few weeks behind everyone else in terms of acquiring personnel which means we may have missed out on some bargains, so Pardew is probably being astute with his identification of players and budget. We'll strengthen, I'm sure. Don't worry.

I'm with this Monkadoo fella. Why do our collective hopes always end up dashed? Why do our dreams always end up in the gutter with the rest of the sh*t? Sometimes after a few too many beers and tamazepam I end up with sick down my trousers and large periods of blackness but I still find this more reassuring than the constant hurt that being a Saints fan brings.

Why?

Why does it have to be like this? I feel lost. Lost in this cruel, cruel world. There are days, rare days, when I wake up and move to the dry side of the bedsit, free from the mould and stench of week old semen, and I sit and look out the window. In those rare moments I feel alive. Alive and happy. And then I remember the minus 10 points. And then I remember that we haven't signed any quality internationals. Where is this money? where are the signings? When I remember this I open the window and I shout. I shout at the people and one time I threw my own sh*t out into the street. Where is the f*cking money Markus? Where is it you freaking tight fisted c*nt?

This season will be hell. It will be dark and it will be hell. I don't see anything good happening. Maybe, one game, when we're losing 4 or 5 nil, the whistle will be blown early so at least the suffering won't be as long. That's about as good as we can hope for.

You know when you see a team saved by the bell by a rich business man and there is money splashed around and good players brought in and fresh hope... well id settle for a glimpse of that. At the moment i think every one is high on AP and the take over and cant see the woods for the trees!

Guess your dizzy with the high of being saved and AP as the manager to not see the dilemma?

I am excited about the season and confident that Pardew will build a good side.

The owner has spent £16m to buy the club.

He has cleared the debt.

He has afforded a manager we couldn;t have done last year.

He has allowed us to turn down bits for younger players that we couldn't before.

He offered KD a contract on his first day.

He is affording Saga and Rasiak - we couldn't last season.

He offered John a competitive contract -we couldn't last year.

He has said that he realises year on year investment is needed to return the club.

Pardew has said new signings likely this week.

That's why I am positive.

You say "money is not there" as thread title based on what?

We may be under prepared for Millwall. I still fancy we will do better than some gloom merchants on here. I would also like to see some transfers coming our way. However I bought my two season tickets because we still have a club. My kids are happy to be able to wear our colours and so am I. Would be a bit pointless without the club wouldn't it.

The liebherr family are far from idiots .... agreed.

And they will want a return for the purchase.

However, they could get a nice return by just giving us an average league 1 wage budget, and creaming money off from a well supported clubs income from pay on the day gates and season ticket sales.

Spending £££ on trasfers is a gamble in football. We've established the liebherr family are not idiots ... so forget the big bucks and hope for some crafty frees and loans.

But you know we lost some good players prior to the take over (and i accept why) but now we need to strengthen. The Poles will be off so that leaves us with a blunt sword in attack.

Put it like this...if you had to prepare for a -10 start to a season and the last friendly was today, would you be happy with the team and why wouldn't you do somthing about it?

What many of these threads overlook is the fact that we've only appointed our chief scout today. Am sure Pards has got people in mind and we'll see a new face or two next week, but there's also an argument for not over-committing but waiting and seeing and taking advantage of the knowledge and resources that Murdoch will doubtless bring.

Top down planning is in progress at SMS. First a new owner; then a new executive team; then a new team manager; then a management support team; next, improve the team. Classic business 'top down' restructure.

We are still within the first month of ML taking over. He has to put right the wrongs of the past, create a new today, and then start on a long term process of building success.

Just because we have not signed every player agents have phoned us about does not mean we have no money. May be the ones offered have not been good enough! AP working top down too here. He has taken a week or two to find out what he has to work with, make some fundamental changes to the fitness levels, systems, etc., resolve some outstanding contract issues with current players, establish exactly what he has available to work with and then start to integrate a few new faces slowly and as required.

This is a 'long haul' job and if they take it in steps we will be all right, if we rush it we might just end up no better off than we used to be under GB with lots of money spent but in the wrong places.

Despite our new owner, our wonderful facilities and great fans (see some above posts and ask if this is the case?) playing catchup in League 1 is not going to be the first choice of many talented players, they will have better options. AP really has to make progress with what he has plus a couple of new older heads to then start to change the perspective of better quality players so that they can see coming here really is a good career move.

If you think this can all be done in three weeks then you need to wake up, forget the coffee (and other drugs), and take a long hard look at the reality! Otherwise I suggest you visit your GP and get some medication because one or two around here are showing clear signs of clinical depression and truly need help.

The main worry for me, is the SAME worry as this time last season ....#

If Rasiak goes .....WE DO NOT HAVE A GOALSCORER ..... therefore, as last season, we will play some Pretty Pretty Football, then get stuffed when a Big Strong opposing CF bangs one in against us

Stern John has gone .... the Rasiak situation changes daily ..... We simply do not have the fire power Up Front

OTHER Div 1 Teams have recognised strike Forces .... at the moment we do not

IMHO, Pinnacle caused us to lose FIVE weeks, and for that, all associated with that "Con of the Century" should be shot ( Except MLT )

Leibherr/Cortese/Pardew are now suffering from those wasted weeks

It took 4-5 years to run this club into the ground and nearly out of existance. ML came in and saved the club only 3 weeks ago. ML and his team need to be given time to build up their experience of running a football club. FFS stop being such an ungrateful drama queen. SFC nearly died in July. Manchester City where taken over some time ago but it is only now that they are up and fully running signing players. Please let's all use a bit of common sense and just realise that this season is about building the foundations for next season.

Here's a quote for you:

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/430449/Saints-alive-under-Alan-Pardew-Scroll-down-for-YOUR-League-One-team.html

"I have been impressed by the owners. They will get there with or without me - hopefully with, as I'm in for the long haul. One of the things in my favour as opposed to West Ham and Charlton, where I was on the other side of takeover, is that here I am the manager the new owners want."
