Crab Lungs Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 (edited) Over here in spain listening to the forum, its absolutely brilliant to see Pardew laying into some of our more clueless and braindead fans. An absolute pleasure. pwn'ed on the Kelvin debate, loved it. Edited 21 September, 2009 by Crab Lungs

He owned a few of our moronic fans who has ridiculous questions Couldn't agree more, also thought the guy running the debate put that knob end down a treat when he was going on about build it & they will come(carp), then proceeded to ramble on for 5-mins said I'll just stop you there as your contradicting yourself. LOL Also thoght NC came across very well, nice to actually feel some modicome of trust in the people at the top of our club again isn't it. niceandfriendly Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 That fella at the back of which you speak (think he was a friend of Callagan/Callaway/Callasomething from SISA) did indeed contradict himself and Pardew corrected him, but I don't think anyone else asked any particuarly stupid questions. There was no animosity at all between Pardew and the fans, and nobody "owned" anyone else. There was a nice atmosphere tonight and Pardew, Davis and Cortese were genuinely appreciative of the fans who attended.

HopperSaint Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 Just back from the Forum. Been to a few of these over the years and that was definitely one of the better ones! AP was very articulate, took the time to back up his views with real life examples, etc. You couldn't fail to be impressed by him and I suspect all of us there would have happily carried on listening to him for another hour! And yes it was Perry McMillan at the back of the room who went OTT and tried to be controversial as always!!

John Boy Saint Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 Amazing how the OCD stalker fans don't get winkled out of these things just about everyone at the club know who these folks are, they don't contribute anything just waste time on other peoples more valid question. I am surprised Mr McMillan can face being associated with Southampton Football Club anymore seeing as we are now owned by a Billionaire: doesn't quite fit in with the socialist ideal, unless you are a Bollinger Bolshevik. Give it to Ron Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 Ditto but to be fair to Pardew he has been a very polished communicator form the word go. I am glad it came across that way on the radio - trust me had you been in the room with him you would of been as totally sold on him as I am now. He was very sincere, positive, forthright, honest and clear where we are now and where he wants to take us. He left me in no doubt that its going to be tough but he is addressing problems in this club slowly but correctly. He gave an example from the Swindon game where everytime the ball came into our box we were frightened - Trotman and now Jaidhi has hopefully addressed that and we no longer look as frail. He hasn't finished yet and I believe as soon as we have put a few out on loan we will see us further strengthened with pace up front.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 Didn't Matt Carpenter from Leicester and his life story ask tonights longest question? At one stage I thought he was going to start listing all the away games he goes to or his favoured route for travelling from Leicester to SMS for home matches. 5 minutes constructing a question when all he wanted to know if pardew still considered the play offs a realistic target!!! Most realistic fans could have given him the answer on this forum. Thanks Matt - were you aware it was only 60 minutes long or did you feel you needed special treatment for travelling from Leicester? If you state you are a seson ticket holder or you are with some unelected or now defunct supporters group does it make your questions more important? Who gives a toss about a pint of Guinness? If you can afford the £26 for a ticket 30p off a pint isn't going to make much difference is it!

Everyone was asked whether they thought that 5 years was a reasonable time for promotion to the premiership and everyone said yes except McMillan who went off on some diatribe about how Southampton is a massive club and how Yoevil looked at us in awe when they came here. He really was a numpty. Some people also went on about how long they had been a season ticket for. How is that relevant to any question? It just ate into the precious time we had and irritated me. Wes Tender Posted 22 September, 2009 Share Posted 22 September, 2009 The title of the thread gives entirely the wrong impression. It suggests some sort of antagonism between a faction of fans hell bent on making waves and Pardew silencing them with his ripostes. The reality was that during the entire proceedings, for the most part sensible questions were asked and when they were directed at Pardew, he answered them calmly and with dignity. The guy at the front supposedly making constant interruptions couldn't be heard overmuch on the radio and it just sounded like the normal banter at these meetings. I have to laugh at Nineteen accusing the bloke from Leicester of taking 5 minutes going around the houses before making his point. It was good that he told us he came from Leicester, otherwise I would have thought it was Nineteen himself. Altogether, this was the most serene and uncontroversial forum that I have ever heard. I didn't even consider it worth attending, as I knew it would be an anti-climax compared to one where Lowe was Chairman. I wonder whether John of Hedge End attended? For me, the best thing that I heard all through the meeting, was Cortese saying that although Markus Leibherr owned the club, he had come to realise that he and Cortese were just the custodians rather than the owners. That was indeed a refreshing change from the mentality of the previous lot.

I suddenly realised that I am currently more happy with our situation than I have been for many years. We have a billionaire owner who seems deeply committed to the club, we have probably the best manager that we could possibly hope for, given our situation, we have the makings of a very good, if not the best squad in L1 and we are, as NC said last night, one of the very few debt-free clubs in England. Yes, I am enjoying being a Saints fan again for the first time in years, and Yes, I am confident that we are on the up, but I am also aware that I need to be patient. It is a pity time ran out without any questions on our corner kicks and width. Pardew did mention pace and 'extension of the pitch' that still needs to be addressed. My thoughts were he realised how bad we were at the back at defending set pieces which in this league are regular occurences. He needed to sort that first and then work on the rest. We now have a spine. He also said that papa would hopefully address some of the issues but it would be madness to pin it all on one player. We are still looking to recruit but as we have a reserve team of professionals need to trim that down first.

qwertySFC Posted 22 September, 2009 Share Posted 22 September, 2009 Comming out of that forum last night was so refreshing , I thought NC demonstrated what an asset he is for the club , the part about being custodians of the club was excellent. He stayed behind at the end and was happy to talk , be photographed with individuals and took time out to speak to a young disabled lad who enquired about transport for away games. AP was I thought fantastic in his responses to questions , he communicates very well , talking about the issue about AL moving to a premiership club really demonstrated his ability to talk to players on their level. I felt he really is 100% behind the new management system , their plans forward for the club and expressed the pressure many mangers are under. His talk about being appointed on his birthday was great , plus the fact that he had 53 voice messages left on his phone from agents from all over who are trying to introduce "Bob Bloggs" . He indicated that the DPF role has worked well and he has no problem with it being introduced at SFC , although NC did say he has not spoken to anyone about the role , it is just an idea to be discussed. AP dealt with some of the "silly" questions well and obviously is not someone who feels intimidated by a select few, he knows how to conduct him self very well. One thing NC did express was the clubs desire to be considered for the 2018 world cup venue , in his own words, " If the people down the road can't sort themselves out , we will be ready to offer SMS " great stuff.. Great night
