And with Thomas also injured, we are now completely f**ked at the back for QPR.

No full-backs

No centre-backs

Some things never change. Our paper-thin squad at the back exposed yet again...

Perry

Cork

Surman

James

Yeah, No Centre-Backs or Full backs. I might even get shot down but i would rather see Cork in there then Svennson.

Right before Walcott scored his first last night, Alan Green (the Alpine of the BBC) was bemoaning the line-up, the fact that the players don't know they're playing until they get on the team bus, the lack of understanding, the formation....

And feck me, he changed his tune pretty quick.

Wouldn't it be a tad more genuine to wait until the performance and result...

(Or has the black hole reached Austria already...) ;)

Is Perry out too? Your glass is half full today. I'm not sure what is too different about this position from every other position on the park this year. We've been blooding kids everywhere and paying the price, depending on your outlook, all season. Why not at CB? It's not as if this kindergarten crop have won every game and this is now going to upset our fine balance. The plan this year involves the youth - with all the risk that may imply. I'd get used to that if I were you.

If the glass had slightly more liquid in it, I guess it could be a great opportunity to blood some more talent. Perhaps the lad Cork that Chelsea have high hopes for? Perhaps Lancashire that is highly thought of here. Alternatively it could be an opportunity for you to sit in the car with the engine running, attach the hose and close the garage doors behind you.

Chris Waddle was the same, saying England were knackered and had peaked after 20 mins!!! then 2 minutes after Theo scored he said we were in complete control.

As for the above, we do have cover and although he is not a favourite, I do not see too many problems with Thomas covering after his display against brum.

I really wished I had read the original post properly!!!:

Not ideal but we should all know we wont be relying on Killer all season. After his last game he has proberly tried a bit too hard to push himself back tohis best and he is feeling it in his knee. Its the right decission to take him out of the action to make sure his knee can fully recover.

If he can get through this season then I expect him to be more of a centre pin next season when his leg is back to full strength.

As for cover I expect Cork and Perry to start with maybe Olly on the bench although he has only recently returned from injury so he still may not be ready himself.

Killer may have his work cut out to get back in the team as I think cork and Perry may make a good partnership.

We've got a centre half on loan from Chelsea who is more than capable of filling in for Killer.

For me it's probably a good thing he's missing out Sunday at QPR, as he was terrible against the pace of Kabba against Blackpool, and I imagine QPR will be a very quick attacking team too. Therefore more suited to young Mr Cork

Tactically naive to release this information ahead of the game? QPR can now plan accordingly.

That said, Wooton can play CB and Cork can play anywhere across the back four. Wooton/Cork as CBs for me as this is a better balance between pace/reading of the game and bulk/physicality.

To be honest, I'm quite relieved Svensson's not playing. He looks really slow and about a tenth of the player he once was. Cork is excellent, and as he is on loan from Chelsea, I'm sure that'll fire him up against their boo boys. Perry will be fine alongside. Full backs though? hmmm. not so good. Put Surman at left back and make him captain so he bucks his ideas up a bit.

Just a point though.

We have three CCC games in 7 days and we always knew MS would not do midweek games. The article DOES however mention that he may play midweek against Ipswich, WHICH he would NOT have done IF he had played against QPR....

And also it doesn't say Thomas IS out, it says he is an injury doubt. IMHO that seems no different from ANY game last season when he was having injections/treatment before almost every game.

Things are NOT rosy with the squad we have and it is too early to cast judgement in any direction.

Oh and BTW, Skacel may have played himself into contention for the LB spot after the reserve game......

Chill peeps, it is a LONG season ahead of us

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll:

"You have to give credit to QPR. They learned from that defeat at Sheffield United and were much more solid today, they made it difficult for us.

"Eight of their players are over 6ft 2ins so it's not rocket science to say you have to defend properly at set-plays, so we're disappointed with that.

"It's the first physical test we have faced in this division and we struggled to find a way to get a result."

Not a small team then.....if Thomas isn't fit we shold play Wooton...to partner Cork

Before the Blackpool game there were a few question marks as to whether Svensson was fit enough to play, with some reports suggesting he was feeling his knee.

His poor performance in that match suggests he was struggling somewhat. I just hope that this is just a minor injury and nothing more, although I have a bad feeling.

As another poster has said, it could explain why Saints put a bid in for Anthony Gerrard on deadline day, but fingers crossed we're reading into things a bit too much.

Also, it's no coincidence that Lancashire wasn't playing for the reserves the other night. Expect to see him in the squad, if not starting. The same applies to Mills too.

Or we could put Wotton in for Gillett, that would increase the height of our team a lot with just one switch.

Anyway, I don't see the problem really. We've got Cork, Perry, Lancashire, Wotton and perhaps Thomas as well. I'd say that is plenty of players for two positions.

Spot on

But he's still injured. Got that, Stoke bought him whilst injured, he hasn't recovered from his knee operation last summer.Even if he was still here we wouldn't be able to play him.I don't think he'll play more than 10 or 15 games for Stoke this season, at 15K a week that's a lot of swans in the treatment room.

And getting rid of an already injured player frees up cash should we need to bring in loans to cover for anyone else getting injured.

A slight over-exaggeration methinks.

We have:

RB - James, Cork, Hatch

LB - Surman, Skacel, Mills

CB - Killer, Perry, Thomas, Cork, Lancashire, Racine, Wotton (also Spiderman can play there and Thompson played at CB for the reserves for all of last season)

Of the above Killer and Racine are out for Sunday and Thomas is a doubt (as is his ability ;)) but that still gives us 4-6 options for the 2 CB places and 3 options for each of the full back positions.

Not exactly no defenders in our squad is it? And if things get worse we can use the loan option, which is far more sensible than buying/long-term loaning another addition to out wage bill who may never be used!

At the moment we're okay, but any more injuries and we will be im die sheize.

Cork - Perry - Wotton - Surman/Skacel

Wouldn't be too bad IMO, but we seriously need some fullbacks. We don't have any who are ready for the first team at the mo. Just 3 midfielders and a couple of centre halves who can plug the gaps.

I remember the last time we flogged a decent CB and Killer got injured soon thereafter.

His name was Fitz Hall and we got relegated..............

As with Davies, One Size wanted away. The problem wasn't letting him go it was who we replaced him with. 1.5m in for him was spent on 1m for Jakobsson (who was too similar to Claus and they were useless together) and 350k on Yahia who never made a single first team appearance for us.

However, Davies (who is also STILL injured, so it wouldn't help at all if he was still here) has been (short-term) replaced with Jack Cork who IMO is a better player.
