Leyton Orient

Set to be a terrific day out.

Can anyone confirm whether there are tickets still available? I have heard rumours that they are sold out and others who say they are requesting the final 500

I had a panic after reading Morph's post earlier, and also being unable to buy any online - it said 'not available'. So I phoned the ticket office....and got 2 tickets no problem. :D

My cousin got me and him tickets this morning no problem so there are ticket available for sure. and we got on the travel coach too so sounds like there will be plenty tickets available come next week...think from todays result though there will not be too many more tickets available past wednesday!!

First 1,00 tickets sold out in 3 days flat, then a further 1,000 ordered which are close to being gone, a 3rd allocation of 500 available if first 2,000 are sold. looks like we'll be taking 2,500 fans i hope in a stadium which holds 9,200...well happy aobut that, over 25% saints so should be extremly loud from us lot.

COYR!!! can't wait!!

Brings back brilliant memories of the FA cup game, 1984 I think.... Jordan, Moran 2-0 Saints, fantastic day out!

it was the only match in London that day due to the bad weather.West Ham turned up,bit of a pitch invasion at the end,5000 saints there and it was on MOTD.Watched it on espn a couple of months ago.wasnt it 1985?

I know they have done a lot of work on the stadium so I guess there's no standing any longer, is that right.

I went there a couple of years ago with Posh. Away fans are put towards the end of a stand along the side which was seated. Stewards didn't give a flip about standing though

Not quite right...second allocation was a further 1,500, making 2,500 and are all but sold out. 500 more will be arriving next week for the maximum 3,000 visitors allocation - which will be like gold dust. I believe it's pay-on-the-day for home fans tho ;)

I saw a game there last year and the away bit is a stand from 1900 that will fall down if we sing too loud, but they do have apartment blocks in the four corners so that's nice.

And they have a gobby chairman who was very vocal during our financial problems.

I was there on the mid week game when we got promoted and the wall fell down that night and a work mate broke his leg, but we did get promoted. :)

I still remember watching us get promoted in the last game of the season at Orient. They needed a point to stay up and boy was there a party atmosphere that night. The crowd would have been heard across the marshes.

Me too. Was that really 30 odd years ago?

Spent a chunk of my student grant overdraft to get down to London for the game, so probably didn't eat for a couple of weeks afterwards.

not quite right yourself, read the website. Says first 1,000 sold out in 3 days and a further 1,500 available with 1,000 given and another 500 in a 3rd allocation of tickets if needed. so a total of 2,500!!

Will still lift the roof off that stand though!! Going to be a great day out. David connolly's first start for the club maybe?? first hat-trick too...not that i'm getting carried away or anything!? haha.

Cannot wait to out sing the Orient fans...will barely be able to hear them...COYR!!

As you say, it is the East End so not too many shrinking violets round that way. Can't say I've come across too many gnarly Orient fans but we had a 'bit of bother' with Spurs turning up in '78 (they didn't hang around too long) and Cass Pennant and his ICF in the '80s at the cup game (tho' they did show up very early...).

It wont quite be like Dellhurst but we could certainly have half of the crowd, look at this weekend as an example, Orient were at home in a London derby against Brentford, there was a crowd of 4,781 of which 1,457 were away fans, so only 3,324 home fans. It sounds like our 3000 tickets will be sold early this week, so if we were able to get more or loads go in the home end we should be able to match if not better the home support!

I'm there, along with a few work colleagues and 8 of our gang on the train Saturday morning (31st). I, personally, cannot wait! We will take over that ground. I just hope they have better marshalling and catering than Swindon. Need to eradicate that terrible memory which I'm sure we will with our current form and new and improved squad. COYS!

B*ll*cks ticket office just told me they have sold out and unlikely to get anymore!!!

If they don't give us more then aim for the home End, East stand which is the same stand as the saints fans (but home section) if you look on their website. If that is also unreserved seating then just keep buying tickets in their bit (East stand) and create an unofficial extension of the away end.

When did they stop calling themselves Orient (cool) and start calling themselves Leyton Orient (uncool)?

Formation and name

Leyton Orient was originally formed by members of the Glyn Cricket Club in 1881, many of whom were former students of Homerton College. The team has had several name changes since, first as Eagle Cricket Club in 1886 then as Orient Football Club in 1888.

The O’s are the second oldest Football League club in London behind Fulham. They played in the 2nd Division of the Southern League in 1904, joined the Football League in 1905 and are the 24th oldest club currently playing in the Football League.

History books written on the Club by its Historian Neilson N Kaufman suggest that the choice of the name Orient came about at the behest of a player (Jack R Dearing) who was an employee of the Orient Shipping Company (later to be taken over by P&O). The club's name was changed again to Clapton Orient in 1898 to represent the area of London in which they played. However, some historians think the name Orient was simply chosen due to its oddity and has no connections to them being an East-End club.

The name Leyton Orient was adopted following the conclusion of the Second World War. The club had moved to Leyton in 1937. A further rename back to simply Orient took place in 1966 after the Borough of Leyton was absorbed into the London Borough of Waltham Forest. That renaming followed a financial crisis (one of several to hit the club, and by no means the first or last) and restructuring of the company behind the club; this is remembered for a "pass the bucket" collection that took place at a special meeting of supporters in the East Stand, when complete closure was claimed to be a definite possibility.

The club finally reverted to "Leyton Orient" in 1987, shortly after Tony Wood took over as chairman and at a time when a supporters campaign was taking place in the Leyton Orientear fanzine to reinstate the Leyton part of the club's name.

This, let's make that entire stand our own.
