hypochondriac Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 After not looking great for a few seasons, he's really impressed me when he's come in and really done a solid job. Credit where it's due and all that. In fact you could say that about a number of our backup players (Wotton and Bart after tonight.) Perhaps the influence of Pardew? ottery st mary Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 As previously stated....like a new signing...As he gets fitter, will get better. Centre Back or Right Back. The squad is developing nicely..well done Pards and team.

S-Clarke Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 He's your typical L1/Chapionship CB, not technically amazing but a brute and doesn't hesitate in just getting rid of the ball. He's done well, was v dominant in the air first half too IMO. - but he was a bit sloppy for their goal, if im really harsh.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Always thought he was a good solid defender but then always thought he was injured, recovering from injury, coming back from injury and not match fit, if he can stay injury free then will go back to simply thinking he is a good solid defender

Redondo Saint Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Agreed, thought he was solid tonight and the goal was a real reward (surprise!) It looked to me if Radi was the guilty player for their goal not Tommo...
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 With Trotman returning to Preston in January it will be interesting to see if the manager is happy to see Jaidi and Thomas as our first choice CB pairing - we could do worse . Arizona Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 He's got a fair bit of stick over the years, but I've always been a big fan. He has also had the raw end of the deal being brought into the worst Saints squad since man landed on the moon. He was originally played under Burley, who thinks defence is something at the side of an Italian's garden. His partners have included such greats as Oliver Lancashire and Darren Powell. Darren Powell... Christ on a bike he was awful. I mean seriously... agh, that's gonna give me nightmares. Great to see Thomas score and a solid overall game. SNSUN Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Definitely preferred him at right back tonight when Trotman came on, but still looked a competent choice at centre back. You have to feel a bit sorry for Perry really - he started the season as our number one centre back and through no fault of his own has slipped down to 4th choice! Arizona Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Still not worth a million though Yes, although you can't blame Thomas for that. Kudos to our board though. Whittling down the transfer fee to only four times what he was actually worth.
alpine_saint Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Looks like putting a performance in is infectious.... Even more reason to blame Burley for our post-playoff decline. His lost of interest really wrecked the team.

His lost of interest really wrecked the team. Just shows what you can do when you actually put the tme and effort in. It's really easy to take the money in management and just take a few training sessions and put out the team on the Saturday. You can tell that Pardew is really involved with a clear vision about what he wants to achieve. You can tell for instance that he scouts the opposition and that he adapts tactics for each specific game. It's that extra bit of work which is proving the difference and it's something which IMO Burley could never be really bothered about. I quite agree with you. Junior Mullet Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 With Trotman returning to Preston in January it will be interesting to see if the manager is happy to see Jaidi and Thomas as our first choice CB pairing - we could do worse . Exactly what I thought when I heard the team news yesterday. I think we can all say goodbye to Trotman come January although I would love it if we could pick him up for around £750k. Problem is we need cover if Trotman does go back - Thomas' fitness can't be relied upon and with the exception of Perry, Lancashire etc just don't cut the mustard for me. I would expect AP to be scouting for a replacement now if PNE are making noises to recall him. At least AP has time on his side this time around. You have to feel a bit sorry for Perry really - he started the season as our number one centre back and through no fault of his own has slipped down to 4th choice! AP likes big strong players. Having realised that it's no wonder Gillet and Perry have lost favour. Personally I am happy seeing us put out such a big strong team - we don't look like conceeding at every set piece anymore! I actually think it gets into the psyche of opposing teams - they no longer feel we are vulnerable and therefore don't seem as committed. Would you fancy your chances going into a challenge against the likes of Trotman, Jaidi, Lambo and Thomas??!!
JackFrost Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 He's a player I've always rated. No nonsense and not afraid of putting his head where few people would put their feet. He's the sort of defender we need and thanks to Burley's tactical lunacy hasn't really had a chance to get a decent partnership going. He's not quite in the Claus league of goal output but a goal for any defender will put their confidence right up.

Andy Durman Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 Dont get carried away Thomas is injury prone and we will need Trotman or another just as good. What happens if Jaidi gets injured? Thomas motivated really well last night but sometimes his positional sence is lacking. Very committed and played well enough last night to keep his place. Saint_clark Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 He's solid, but still a bit of a liability. 4 out of 5 times he challenges for the ball by shoving his elbow in the oppositions face, i'm amazed he hasn't been sent off so far this season (Millwall, Swindon and Charlton away games all spring to mind). Chez Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 I'm still not convinced that he is dominating enough in the air at centre back. I don't think his decision making or positional play is all that great either. I much prefer Trottman despite Thomas being a far more composed player on the ball. Not bad cover, but if Trotmman has to go back I wouldn't feel confident that we can get promoted with Thomas as the second centre back.
