Thedelldays Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 IMO we should.... we cant keep playing lambert, harding, jaidi, hammond every game every week without them getting tired...lambert may need a break at some point (as with harding).. I could not care less about the FA cup this season (or next) and maybe we should give it a wide berth and put the "fringe" players out..
benjii Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 Yep, agree. They are likely to be the worst team we play between now and the end of the season in a competition which will ultimately either end in a disappointing defeat to a lower league team or a thrashing to a good side. We don't need the money. If we can't rotate the squad now, when will we. I would pick something like this: -----------------Bart---------------- LJ-----Trotman-------Perry-------Mills Antonio-----Wotton-----Mellis------Holmes ----------Patterson-------McClaggon---- Subs: KD, Thomas, Gobern, Murty, Waigo

Saint_clark Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 Agreed, I still think we should go for the Paint Trophy but the FA cup is very unimportant to us this season. RonManager Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 At the start of the season I was all for ignoring the cup competitions. However, I'm torn at the moment. Any chance of the play-offs, although not extinct, is in the balance now. In order to keep some momentum to the season and keep the interest of fans and the crowds up, I am starting to think that the cups are a way of doing this, and, if we do well, will breed confidence and also keep the profile of the club high with a view to attracting better players for next season. If DC is an example, then according to his post-match interview, everyone wants to play as much as possible.

krissyboy31 Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 I think Murty should be given a full game (presumably he'll play some part at Hartlepool?). I'd also play Bialkowski in all the cup ties. Did well against Charlton and needs the match practise. Thomas has to play because Trotman can't and maybe give Papa a full game also. RedAndWhite91 Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 Northampton are only one League below us, it won't be an easy game. I'd like us to get the the third round as it gives us a chance to get a Premiership team, which would be cool. Rest the players that need resting, otherwise, go for it. Saint_John Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 As I said a couple of weeks ago it would be nice for both Trotman and now James to use this match for their "5 cautions" ban. Both are now on 4 bookings and if booked on Tuesday night they would miss next Saturday. As Trotman would not be allowed to play it would be a good use of this match. Genk Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 Disagree, we want to get on a winning run and get a bit more confidence in the team again and this is a great chance to do so. Perhaps rest Lambert, but other than that play pretty much the same team as normal. Younger players such as Lallana should be able to cope with it easily. Playoffs do look just out of reach now, and we certainly aren't going down. However on our day I think we could beat any team in the Championship at home, so why not have a nice cup run. Potentially getting our friends down the road in the third round!

Arizona Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 I'd rest a couple of players, but for me the FA Cup and JPT ARE priorities this season. Never say never, but I can't see Saints going down this season. Equally the playoffs are going to require an enormous stretch of reality. We started the season 10 points from 6th spot and we are currently 16 points away. We are a long way away and have moved further away. I want to be in the third round, so we at least have a chance for another crack at a Prem team. I'd play Bart James Thomas Perry Mills Waigo Schneiderlin Wotton Holmes Connelly Lallana That's assuming Trottman is cup-tied, if not he is in for Perry. Rest Hammond, Jaidi, Harding and Lambert. Give Bart another run out too.
Leicestersaint Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 I shall be there and would like us to put out a reasonable side. I would certainly put Bart in goal as i think that would increase our chances of a win.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 (edited) Even if i was not going to the game i would hope Saints select a decent side similar to the 1st round game with Bristol Rovers. Otherwise the club would be taking fans for mugs and should let them know beforehand if they are not taking the completion seriously. Luckily Pardew has played strong teams in cup games and realises winning games is important. I can't understand anyone who doesnt care about the FA Cup, a competition which has meant alot to his club. Saints have the chance of getting through to the 3rd round and playing a premier league team which could result in a cup upset, extra revenue and possibly a great game and day out etc for fans. Maybe it's a sign of the modern day fickle football fan and sad that some fans don't care about the FA Cup just because it is unlikely Saints will get far in the competion. I bet if Saints get through to play Man td or Arsenal etc the same people will want tickets. As we have discussed before, it depends on the ruling regarding suspensions but I should have thought that if Trotman were ineligible to play then he could not spend his suspension in this game. On the other hand, if Preston were to give us written permission for him to play by 12:00 Friday, he would then be 'eligible' for this game and hence 'eligible' to be suspended. Let's see what happens on Tuesday night .
