The star of the show had to be

If he hadn't been doing it for weeks at pretty much every match and caused Antonio to be completely put off you might have a point.

I'd rather idiotic pitch invasions are kept to the last game of the season once the play is finished, and especially not when they might detrimentally affect the team, which it did when Antonio missed his penalty as it was all going on.

In case anyone thinks "but it's just a kid", he, or someone dressed exactly like him, with the same colour hair, has now run onto the pitch with both arms aloft at 3 or 4 games recently. The last thing we should do is reward him, especially as it led to 4 or 5 hard-of-thinking others trying the same thing soon after and probably getting themselves banned. Come to think of it, if he sifts out the pillocks it can't be all bad...

He's been to a few away games yeah. I dunno how he behaves at the ground as I live away from the area myself now. And he looks like me thank you very much!

Unless you run around with your arms aloft David Pleat-style and wear a black coat all the time that's probably not going to help most people in the ground much to identify you.

I'm sure he's now "known" and they'll be waiting for him on 95 minutes next time anyway. You'd think.

That was my brother! He was proud as punch when he got home and rang me to tell me about it!

He really shouldn't be proud. Imagine if all 15,000 did that before the last penalty. If you really are his older brother you should tell him never to do anything like it again. Ok, he is young but still needs to know and if with his parents last night they should get a harsh warning for not stopping him. ;) :)

I know that he's your brother deano 06, but try pointing out to him that just this sort of demo. could spark a pitch invasion ..:( with who-knows-what type of punishment from the FA .... if things got out of hand and everyone did it.

We've had quite enough points deductions for one lifetime, thank you.

At worst, he might end up getting himself banned for life - as has happened to fans in other clubs.

(Remember not ALL judges are Saints' fans - especially if it's an away game.!)

Football authorities have all sorts of hidden punishments in their unreadable paragraphs. In Scandinavia, there was a tragic case a few years back. A Euro qualifying game between Denmark and Sweden (type.Scotland v England) was 3-3 in the last few minutes. The Danes were much the better side and really deserved to win, but Danish ONE fan ran on the pitch and spoke with the ref. The (idiot) ref. cited " pitch invasion " abandoned the match and forfeited the match... to Sweden wiping out the Danish goals and awarded the match 3-0 to Sweden, and the Danes failed to qualify for the finals...and to add insult to injury , the Danish FA was fined £100,000 !

You might say that it sounds extreme, but I watched the game and saw it myself. Despite the win, most Swedes said it was very harsh, too

PLEASE - let's not give the FA grounds for any such action - have another word with your little brother. Eh?

I'm getting a little bit ****ed off with the level of seriousness some people feel about this.

Especially the decent posters I thought would of laughed it off and enjoyed the moment.

It was pretty nice to see something genuine instead of someone just invading the pitch aswell as Papa's reaction.

Seriously lighten up.

I agree, although if we had lost I would have given him a right hook!

Don't you consider -10 points to be a serious issue ? I do.

***** stars to Papa Waigo for making light of it, and de-fusing the situation.

I also think the fan who ran on has been sued by the Danish FA to the tune of £200,000 or something. Not a cheap night out for him.

I'm with 'The 9' on this one.

Whilst it doesn't affect majorly effect anything, to have someone continuously run onto the pitch after every game will lead a group of rather less-than-endowed-in-the-brain-department-mongers to think that it is acceptable and, undoubtedly, they'll copy.

In turn, another group of less-than-endowed-in-the-brain-department-mongers will probably copy them and eventually, the club will be fined because of it.

Oh, and its pretty ****ing pointless if the game is essentially meaningless.

Finally some sense (after my rantings last night in the post-match thread).

The kid was goaded on by a bunch of 'lads' who had moved down to the front of Kingsland and were giving the stewards a hard time. Didn't see his parents anywhere in sight. I'd be mortified if any child of mine ran onto the pitch during a match.

Antonio's miss IMHO was a direct result of this situation. Had we not won I'm sure others on here who are now saying "It's a bit of a laugh" would have a different opinion.

Added to that this really set the way for a few more mindless idiots running onto the pitch at full time and the stewards and police having to tackle them. I hope they are banned.

Will be interesting to hear if Papa was taken to one side after the match about his antics with the kid.

I laughed at the time but in hindsight it is illegal and parents really shouldn't be encouraging / allowing their kids to break the law.

And it does lead to copy cats performances as demonstrated by several wazzocks who run on afterwards.

Again I laughed at the time because it was a bit "keystone cops" watching the stewards in hot pursuit.

That said, everyone should stay where they belong - in the stands

Let's not be so stupid. We all know this is'nt serious, the football league judge it at their own discretion. I bet the players were bloody terrified and felt at danger.

The ankle nibbling must of been shocking.

Yes. fans should stay in the stands but christ some need to lighten up.

He was a young lad who got so into a penalty shoot out and now has had a moment I bet we all would of loved to of had?!?!

f*ck sake mate, have a word with yourself, its football we're talking about not a cub scout camp give it a rest. i sat in the kingsland for a change and the amount of morons in there who sit there tutting and groaning at every mislaid pass, but offer nothing in way of vocal support, one particular clown had a fit over me standing up to let someone walk along the row for blocking his view!! I was down the front for the penalties and the stewards were doing my head still trying to tell people to sit down and one kept threatening people with ejection..... it was a penalty shoot out FFS.

Ahhh - such a well worded response. I've had a word with myself and still think it's unacceptable for parents or guardians of a 5/6/7 year old to allow them to run onto the pitch like that during a game. I can only assume that they also have no problems with their child playing on railway lines.

As a parent I had a think about this and decided:

1. Let my child run onto a football pitch, he might be caught by a steward and asked to leave the field of play.

2. Let my child play on a railway line where there is a 240,000 Volt electrified rail and vehicles travelling at 120mph.

Hmmm, I thought. Those are worthwhile comparisons...

FWIW, I don't like to see anyone on the pitch who isn't playing or trying to ruin the game by officiating. But noone was hurt, noone died, noone was inconvenienced apart from Antonio.

It was a football match and if passions do not run high during a penalty shoot-out when do they??

Assume what you like really, if such a minor issue as this winds you up so much I can only assume you spend most of your time in worried state of judgemental thought.

At least Pardew saw sense, it's no big deal.

Running on the pitch in celebration is one of the best feelings in football.

BORING HELL!!!

Was one of the highlights of my night so i'm with Pards on this one. Was awesome to see it and Papa picking him up was awesome...specially then as the setward had to stop so he didn't take out Papa too!! haha.

If you think a kid running onto the pitch was distracting Antonio then your maddddd!! You not see the other 15,000 odd people there with expectations that he was going to score?? thats what put him off...he's young and probably never taken a penalty in professional football, let alone in a cup sudden death competition!!

Let the kid run on every week i say, didn't hear one person complaining about in the ground, in fact everyone was cheering it until Antonio missed his pen!!

I think people could just get on and enjoy last night's little moment, but realise that it's not one of those things that can be repeated. So if the same kid is doing it again and again, then someone should have a word with him, to discourage him, because the repercussions could be less favourable in the future. But let's enjoy the moment. It gave Papa an opportunity to show that he's a gentleman. And there are few enough of those around.

funnier was the kid who went up on his arse - Fair play to Papa he caught the kid - yes it was high spirits - ok he shouldnt have done it, but fair play again by Papa by giving him the shirt at the end of the game.

These youngsters are our clubs future - to the old moaning farts just remember you were young once and may have done the same. After all when was the last time you got excited at the prospect of the saints actually having good results and a cup run since 2003 - anyone under the age of 10 wont remember it !

I wasn't at the match but was horrified to hear about this boy being on the pitch. There are a few issues here:

1. Where were his guardians and why didn't they stop this from happening? Presumably they think it is ok for pitch invasions. Maybe the way they allow their child to run amok at the football is the way they allow the boy to act on the street or in school?

2. If one person (no matter of age) invades the pitch it can encourage others to follow causing trouble

3. The boy could have been hurt - whose fault would it have been then? The stewards? The clubs? I can guarantee that these sort of people would be the first complaining if something had happened to him.

4. And most importantly, the boy is learning behaviours now, as all children do, which will stay with him for life. He is learning that it is ok to run onto a pitch, to break the rules and act like a lout. He has been rewarded by the laughs from the crowd and the shirt from Papa. He will continue to act like this until he is stopped and his behaviour corrected. Will it still be cute and funny when he is 9? What about 12? What about 15? 27 etc etc. What about if he comes on brandishing a pole and hits one of the underperforming players? Will that be cute and funny?

The club must take action now before this becomes an epidemic of poor behaviour.

The boy should be banned for a year.

The guardians should be banned for year.

The stewards should be told to keep a tight control on pitch invasions, no matter of age.

Papa should be fined a weeks wages.

Let's not allow this sort of thing to become the norm at the club. And let us not mistake what it was - a socially irresponsible act carried out by ruffians.

I'm with Tac-tics and Fergie on this one, lighten up everybody.

I wish I went to every game home and away at that age, he's just a kid and he's just enjoying himself. No one got hurt, what's the big deal?

Because next match all his mates may join him and it snowballs out of control. Sets a dangerous precedent if you allow it, no matter what the age of the kid.

Fantastic - more chavvy little runts. The kid's pulling the wool over all your eyes and having a laugh but no you cream your pants and get weepy-eyed like a woman with pmt who's seen one too many andrex adverts. He's a serial offender, no doubt encouaged by other, older chavvy little runts - the game, the result are all secondary - if anything, deserves a whack around the ear or the end of the belt buckle.

I don't think so MLG, come on usually your a decent poster, lighten up chap.

I know the kid didn't mean any harm and probably wasn't aware it is wrong to do. However I do still feel that the club can't loosen its rules on this and allow anyone to run onto the pitch. Remember the game wasn't even over as the penalties hadn't finished. I do wonder what the parents were doing at the time! :D
