Rasiak-9- Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 We need two new centre-backs and a new right-back IMO, and not just a creative type of midfielder/split striker but a real dribbler as Lallanas the only one who seems really capable of beating anyone through the middle

benjii Posted 28 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 December, 2009 It really shouldn't. They'd get swamped in midfield. Not if they played well, they wouldn't. We already get overrun in midfield when we play a decent side. We may as well go all out attack. My cunning plan is also dependent on the new signings being really good. Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 (edited) For me, Hammond, Bart & Perry are playing above expectations. Hammond was a good player (arguably better) when we signed him, Bart has always been good - just never been given a chance and the reviews of Perry have been very mixed. When AP joined he said he asks/demands players to play to 95% of potential every week - he doesnt however seem to have done this (with one or two exceptions). Thats why we are so far under-perforing. To many good players, playing like average ones. With the team we have, you'd need 6 or 7 playing to full potential and we would be too good for nearly every team in L1. Junior Mullet Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 A lot of people suggesting we need a new LM. Personally I like Lallana cutting in from the left and think he has done very well for us there this season. However, not sure why Holmes is not getting a game as Lallana's sub - he's left footed and before he got injured last year was IMO our most influential player going forward. What we really really really need is a good solid right back. Murty is just too injury prone to be relied upon and he is not getting any younger. Pardew seems to have a good eye for full backs in Harding and Murty and I trust he will come up with the goods in Jan. Also think we are missing a holding midfielder with bite, that will allow Hammond to bomb on into the box, which I see as his strength (surely a 10 goal per year midfielder if he had the confidence in his team mates to make runs). Wotton should be sold. He hides from the ball when we are in possession and his passes are woeful - what's the point in having a holding midfielder to break things up only to give the ball away again?! I think our problems sometimes come from Lallana cutting inside, it would be nice to have an out and out wide man who gets to the byline and whips the ball in - at this level, that will win you lots of games. It would also improve the balance of the side. I agree that holmes is that sort of player...but i think we can forget him ever getting a run under pardew, he clearly doesn't rate him and tbh alot of our confidence in him comes from 6 or 7 starts early last season - that was it. He was then pretty much injured for the rest of the season.

Spot on, remember him saying he wanted to prove he was still the best centre back at the club and on current form he is. Trotman is good but has very iffy moments, Jaidi is a rock 90% of the time but has little periods in games where I think he gets over run, this may be due to lack of help and support from midfield however. But since he came back into the side Perry has played very well in all games.

Genk Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 I'd like to see another pacey striker come in to partner Lambert. Then we can rotate Lambert, Connolly and the new striker. Gives us an excellent option off the bench if one of the strikers is having an off day. I believe one quality CB to partner Jaidi and another quality striker could be enough for us to reach the playoffs. Would obviously like to see another winger come in but thats not the most important area at the moment.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 I think that Hammond is easily our best player at winning the ball in and around the opposition's penalty area; he looks like he really wants the ball and always wins 50-50s. Therefore I feel that if we could bring in a new Defensive midfield, to take responisbility for winning the ball on the edge of our own box, I think we would get far more out of Hammond, as he'd be able to get forward more often. Andy_Porter Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 It's fine posting starting XI's but more than ever football even at our level is a squad game. We basically need 21 players who are all as good as eachother so the squad never suffers. Obviously we're not going to have two left wingers as good as Lallana or four centre backs as good as Jaidi but it's all relative. GK - Davis And Bart - Fine RB - New RB and James LB - Harding and Mills - Fine CB - New CB - Jaidi, Perry and Thomas RM - Waigo and new RM LM - Lallana and new LM CM - Schneiderlin, Hammond, James and new CM ST - Lambert, Connolly and Waigo New ST. Only positions which are sorted are in goal and left back, ideally we need five new players. I imagine one will be Antonio and don't have a clue about the others. Maybe Pardew rates some of the youngsters like Gobern and Martin good enough to step up as the fourth choice. I think the first priority this window will be shifting a lot of our crap squad players. Doubt we will get much more than 250k combined for the likes of Holmes, Gillett, Lancashire, Molyneux, Forecast, Pulis etc

Actually the lad Antonio does it on a regular basis. He may not have the touch of Lallana but he has the pace, power and desire to get to the byeline. He took their fullback on brilliantly yesterday, beat him, got the byeline and delivered...a **** cross. Bugger. He's clumsy, but at this level he's still a major handful. I will be dissapointed if his loan is not extended. Ryan Giggs is not going to join us folks.
