Elliot Ward - The Story!

Notts Co. I think were after him last Nov. but he refused the loan move at which time Coleman did say something might happen in January. I guess if the money is right this rumour might have some legs. Exciting if true.

Indeed. Coleman's exact words were "Elliott has turned down the chance to move, albeit on loan, but something might happen in January. I have discussed the situation with Elliott and he is down the pecking order so something may happen."

Could be another great signing by Pards.

While it seems like it would be a good signing, if it is true, I seem to remember Ward was the Coventry penalty taker usually. Did he take that terrible penalty against us last season by any chance? If he did that should be his name off the penalty shootout business if we are to bump into one of those again..

Yes it was, still a quality center half in my book.

Though, Millwall have the better brother IMO

Despite signing a four-year contract extension with West Ham in August 2005, Ward left the East London club in the summer of 2006, joining Coventry City for £1m.

His performances for Coventry have attracted significant interest from Charlton Athletic and Fulham, or even a move back to former club West Ham for reported £2.5 million fees. The speculation heightened when Ward was omitted from the starting line up that faced Bristol City in an F.A. Cup 3rd round tie on 6 January. Coventry manager Micky Adams vehemently denied the rumour that Ward had been dropped to avoid him being cup-tied, but insisted that Ward had picked up a hamstring strain and thus was unfit to play

Bet he was happy :D

Who is the other bid for then in Pardew's couple of bids he revealed? Chris Lines? What about any other deals or maybe the areas Pardew want to improve? Striker? Barnard/Jackson? Right back?

we so could do with a winger too

i can also back this up (not the specifics of the bid, but that we're very very interested in him) a player I've been banging on about for a little while.

common knowledge we tried to get him before the loan deadline....and pards was very frustrated.

He's worked with Pardew at west ham, when eh was coming through the ranks - he's someone that pardew rates highly.

TBF he is a top championship CB - all Coventry fans agree and are bemused why he doesn't play.

The older brother is over 30 whereas Elliot Ward is 24 and has his best years ahead of him.Hopefully AP is bringing in some players to build for the future as well as the experience of Jaidi etc.

some views from cov. fans:

'' hes our best defender, and only one willing to commit himself to tackles and throws himself at the ball thats what the defence misses''

''I don't begrudge Ward hanging on for a pay day in the Summer. He has been treated dreadfully by Coleman and must be fuming that he is not getting a game ahead of some of the dross (e.g. Barnett) above him in the pecking order.''

''If I remember rightly Ward cost us £1 million and we are about to lose him for nothing in the summer, or next to nothing in January. If CC was so keen to get rid of him (as he obviously is) we should have done it long ago for a decent fee.

''Elliott Ward has never had a fair crack of the whip from Coleman. Why we had to loan Barnett for instance when Ward is a far better player, scores odd goals and penalties is beyond me.''

Isn't Lines a passing, playmaking midfielder - i.e. someone to take over Morgans role and teach him?

he's only 23 and learning the game himself!

i think he's more of a Mellis type player, a direct replacement who is more suited to come straight into the team.
