Saints V Skates - Afters.

Well, it wasn't a toooootally unexpected result, but could easily have been going by the first half.

They had the extra few yards of pace that you'd expect from a Prem side, and we did ourselves proud. Fans were fantastic, players did what they could, and it wasn't a 4-1 match at all.

Lets push on in the league and meet the Skates again in the CCC next season.

COYR!

I was expecting us to lose, and even at 3-1 I was alright about it. On the basis that we had given it a right go and just gone for it, bu been caught out a few times as a result. But 4-1 ? looks like we were demolished and it was far, far from it. We were he better side for about 70% of that game but missed our chances. That was a 2-1 game and as a result from that scoreline I feel pretty gutted about it.

Well, last team that won the FA Cup tie got relegated from Premier League

I'd settle for that.

If we'd taken the lead, we would have won that game easily...

Just maybe bit of naiveity at 1-1 cost us.

At least Tyldsley gave us the credit we deserved.

I know which team I'd rather support at this moment...

I had a gut feeling we would loose , they are premier**** after all. scoreline is a bit hard on us, but against teams leasgues above you have to take every opportunity.

Still Hate their guts , but i think they wont go under even though they should .

were off to wmebley anyhow, so cheer up peeps.

Although we caused them lots of problems at the back, I always thought we needed Wotton or James, or preferably Case, sat in front of the back 4 or marking O'Hara.

Still we played well and could easily have been 2 up before they scored. ITV were talking about the result being in the history books, but lets hope HRMC say otherwise.

Oh well, we have to learn from this game. They were very good on the counter attack.

No disgrace and we must not let it stop us from winning the JPT and finsihing strongly in the League.

BTW hope they get a winding up order or at the very least- admin -9 and relegation

Funny how much thats spoiled my day :-( it's not like an hour before I expected us to win, I just hoped we'd try - and we certainly did that.

If we'd buried a couple of our chances in the first 1/2 then it could have been very different, but we didn't, we compltely out played them for 75 minutes and even though 4-1 flatters them completely, we have to live with that, it's history now.

I hope what we take from that, is that we are a good outfit now, forget all the distractions, try to win every league game now, if only to throw down a marker for 10/11

I wish we could say we'd gone out to the eventual cup winning side, but that's obviously not going to happen ;-)

They were lethal on the break because of their pace, and we did exactly the right thing at 1-2 playing the long ball game. Just got unlucky.

The inevitable jeering will now come from those who only read the scoreline, saying we were rubbish or battered. But we know in our heart of hearts that possibly we looked just as good as them for the first 75 minutes.

Loads of ifs about that game, a shame, but we really need the players to get over it, and now concentrate on getting the feel good factor back to the league by WINNING instead of drawing.

We'll smash Carlisle in the cup final too.

Not even got the energy to speak, i am so so deflated.

We didn't deserve that, i said that as the way be played i would not be too downheartened to lose but 4-1 is such a flattering scoreline.

James kept them in the game, O'Hara is by far their best player and i would not have pulled Waigo off (unless injured or knackered)

I am just................Gutted

Feel sick at the scoreline which does NOT reflect a game that we dominated and should have had sewn up before their first goal.

But never mind.

In a season or two we'll be playing a very different Skates side in the CCC and the scoreline home and away will be very different as well.

At least we're going to Wembley. They've got a few games to get there.....if they're still in business. He he he.

Seriously though.... I said this during the first half. What are the rules about player registration??? I'm sure that it came up before (Barnard maybe?) that a player had to be registered at a club when the draw was made to be eligible to play in that round.

O'Hara was at Spurs when the draw for this round was played. He didn't sign for Pompey again until 29th Jan..... So surely that means he wasn't eligible?

I never know why we can cope with their pace so well in the first half but so poorly in the second half. Can anyone explain it? Is that because we use long throws too much? Where are our midfielders for those 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals conceded?

Going all out attack to try to get the goals back. Wouldve been disappointed if they'd have done anything else with 10 mins to go of a cup tie.

Yeah same here. I couldn't go so had to watch on ITV and we didn't deserve that 4-1 hammering. We were by far the better side for most of the match and to lose to those c**ts is sickening - while I am not surprised we lost, I'd be deluding myself if I was, 4-1 is just sickening beyond belief and flatters the Skates.

This was why I really didn't want this draw, any other Prem side but not those c u n t s

Agreed. I felt the same way when the draw was made.

Awaiting incoming gloating from supporters of a club which should not even BE in existence. :(:smt086:smt086

Hopefully justice will eventually be done and the High Court will eventually do the right thing.

Beaten by Calamity, the break and sheer pace.

Thought our supporters were AWESOME - 12th man for 60+ minutes or more - well done to all who were in the stands shouting themselves hoarse.

Kudos to the dudes we saw on TV wearing Red & White Arab Keffiyehs on their head - we laughed like a farking drain here.

We over-committed, leaving our right flank completely open. Three times at least. Thomas can't spend that kind of time up front if he knows he has no chance of getting back. And AP can't watch him do it without making an adjustment.

Generally, though, we were much the better side but we had to score when we were on top.

God, what a sick feeling but I'm still proud of them.

We tried and but for a little more up front we could have won easily. Gutted they have won again but all shall change soon.

Just one thing I have noticed though, Lallana frustrates the hell out of me, I like him and I think he is tricky but in front of goal his efforts are really weak.

But overall, well done saints, the effort cannot be faulted.

He should have put the header away, not that he didn't do well to get there mind you, but the actual header was a bit naif.
