Ladbrokes suspend all bets

St. Jason

Recommended Posts

Ladbrokes have suspended all bets on Pardew being sacked and have told anyone wanting to place said bet they'd have to go to an independent agent. The said bookmaker also said Hughes was his replacement!

I realise this has been touched on in other threads but this rumour is gaining massive speed and with the bookies suspending bets it looks imminent!

For me this is worrying, Mr Liehberr and Cortesse said this was a 5 year plan, after year 1 I feel we've made massive progress, I feel Alan has formed the basis of a great team capable of winning the league 1 title next year and would be gutted if he was sacked, both for me and more importantly him! I feel he has earned the right to have a full pre-season and a shot at the title next year. I also wonder what sort of message it sends out to the rest of football if we were to sack him, what would be the clubs stance if Hughes fails to get us promoted next year?

Lowe made a huge error in sacking Pearson, do we really want to go down the same route again?

Your thoughts please, would you be p1ssed if we sacked him, would Hughes replacing him soften that, is success at all costs the way we want our club run???

OK it's late on a Sunday evening, so your link to this is where exactly?

I don't usually think responding to every rumour is a dignified way to run a football club but NC needs to stamp on this asap - if it is untrue. The longer he let's this fester the more damaging it is becoming.

I know someone who spoke to AP this week re the situation and his response was "I am past caring". That can be taken a million different ways but it shows he is fed up with the whole scenario.

Despite having small misgivings re AP's tactical acumen I think replacing him would be a foolish step.

So SFC; time to put this to bed and hurry up!

if true...not alot we can do about it..will be annoyed but IF it is hughes, we have a good replacement that will stun football in this country

and in no way would hughes come here unless he had plenty of money to spend..

this would be nothing like pearson moving on in that we have oodles of cash to spend

Hughes has no experience of lower league football.

Give me Steve Cotterill over Mark Hughes while we're a League One club anyday. (Assuming Pardew is sacked)

Your right Hughes has no League 1 experience but could NC's thinking be that as our aim is the prem get in a prem manager now so we don't have to replace (cotterill) when we make the Prem?

For me this shouldn't even be on the agenda, Pardew deserves at least another year!

I think Hughes would be a great appointment, however I think sacking Pardew would be horrific! This is now his team. A team that he has built and has respect of. Not only the team but the back room staff.

This is quite likely a load of sh1t, just because of what Nicola said ages ago. I think that Pardew has more chance of keeping our best players and brining in better players than Hughes has. So because of that, Pardew has to stay!

If they sack Pardew then that's not good, however we dont know what goes on behind closed doors and maybe the relationship between AP and NC is not working.

This club is bigger than AP and I feel we will win the league next season with or without him.

The appointment of Hughes would be top class and a more than capable replacement.

What ever our owners decide I will support them.

totally spot on, at the end of the day all of this uncertainty was brought on by NC's comments back in February, so he's going to have to end this - and im starting to believe it will be with Pard's sacking.

I can see it..people are so sure that all this is bollix and pardew will be here...maybe he will but something is not right

I really don't want Pardew to go and i really don't want Hughes tbh.

Perhaps i am being negative towards the appointment of hughes due to the fact that Pardew has done a fantastic job thus far imo.

If the outgoing manager was useless then i would be more receptive to the appointment of Hughes maybe.

Hughes does not,at this moment in time, thrill me with excitement at all,

however much of a coup it would be for some.

ffs - Didn't Ladbrokes stop bets last year in July on WGS being the new Saints manager? What a load of b*ll*x. One of them 'my brothers girlfriends sisters dog' type report. We had someone reporting that the programmes weren't published because their brother told him that they hadn't printed any due to a c*ck up at the printers, then people reporting that they had seen the magazine.

Rumours are dangerous. I support Pardew 100%

I would be very surprised if Hughes came here now as I am sure he could still pull down a Prem job and the earliest we are likely to offer him that is another 2 or 3 seasons. Mind you I was surprised when we netted Pardew so who knows.

Like others I think it would be very foolish to part company with Pardew now, but Cortese seems to be very impatient and knows little about football...so anything could happen!

that was the standard response to pardew this summer..

so far, the new owners have not got much wrong...so, I am with them 100%..

at the end of the day, THEY are the new start...without them, we would be lucky to be in league 1

I think 99% of the fanbase support Pardew and want him to stay, but it doesn't look like NC shares the same views.

Don't get me wrong - i'm pleased with what NC has done and how he's contributed in moving this club forward, but he is starting to bug me a little bit.

Appointing Hughes as manager would be massive.....

While I understnad the loyalty to AP, Hughes is an in demand premier manager whereas AP once was....

AP failed to win in 26 league games this season.....that was too many imo and NC/ML may also agree.

I would be very excited about Hughes being our manager (spesh in L1) anyone that thinks he is not a top class manager is lacking in football knowledge imo

TBH I agree, although Hughes has no experience in the lower leagues it would be a massive coup for the club, I mean Mark Hughes in League 1 just a few months after leaving Man City!.

Despite this, I am 100% BACKING PARDEW and unless he goes I will continue to back him and the board :finga:

Of course this could just all be rumour-mongering or bullsh!t. Or if there is truth in the reports, it may not be for footballing reasons, there could be fundamental differences of opinions on how to take the club forward (sporting director etc.).

7 teams in the Premier League failed to get 40 points this season - there will be plenty of vacancies for Mark to consider in the top flight next season. Why would he want to work two leagues down?

We are heading the right way under the stewardship of Pardew, why try and fix something that is not broke?

It would be a massive gamble to replace Pardew right now.

I don't care who with.

We have stability, something that we have been lacking for eons.

No need to tamper with anything....yet.

He might have lost more games than we would have liked, but without the -10 we would still have made the play offs.

Wither or not the rumours are true or not I don't know, what i do know is that this thread is not bullsh1t, this is what my daughters boyfriend was told at Ladbokes today, I and he hope it's untrue and Pardew is still here in 5 years leading us to 6th in the Premiership and onto the Europa league!

This is not easy. I am not one of AP's biggest fans but Mark Hughes does not fill me with confidence for sure. 26 games not won in a season is quite a lot in consideration of his armery. However also what will not of escaped the owners notice is Saints lack of tactical superiority and cultured football. We have won many games despite our tactics not because of.

I would have given AP a little more time on balance but more in hope than expectation that he could carry it off.

Since when did Ladbrokes or any bookmaker offer prices on League 1 managers to get sacked

If you're suggesting Ladbrokes turned the bet down because they think Mark Hughes will be appointed this week, then I'm going to question your integrity I'm afraid

Ahhhh right - so you're the one that believes that managers take jobs because of the 'size of the potential' and not 'the size of the paypacket'. We may be big hitters in this league, but I doubt that we are paying the going rate of the Prem League managers just yet.

Probably easier to demonstrate the potential of a club already in the Prem League than one that needs, not one, but two, promotions just to get there.

Dear oh dear,

In all the time I've been on this site I've started a mere 21 threads!

That's exactly what happened except for the "upset" bit. He heard at yesterdays game that Pardew was on the way, as a bit of a gambler he thought he'd try and make a bit of cash on this and was indeed told "no, the books closed!" which is what I'm reporting to you lot, I don't see the problem!

Months ago I heard about Avram and the brothel, I reported it to you all then as well, no self satisfaction, no ego stroking just telling you what I've heard!!

I certainly don't want Pardew to go but the worst thing we can do as fans is to overly-criticise NC is it does happen. Pardew obviously promised promotion this season in January and in effect may have cost the club a few million as a result. Looking to next season I'm sure it'll be a daft decision but NC would live and learn. We won't be lingering down here for too long even if I was in charge.

On the other hand, if we start giving bull sh!t to NC then it would only certainly start testing his patience and the last thing we as fans should be doing is disrespecting a man without whom we may not have a club. If AP does go, just look at it a bit objectively and hopefully reaslise that it isn't the end of the world and maybe just a learning curve for Cortesse.

Mark Hughes has won just over 100 games of 300 games managed this isn't sucesss! ok it's at a higher level but at Man city he had the pick of the worlds best! He has no experiance of lower leagues & the dog fights you have to get into mid season ..

Me and St Jason may disagree on politics, but I can vouch for him 100%.

He broke the NOTW Avram Grant story long before they did and he doesn't need to bull****.

If this is what he has been told then he has been told it - St Jase has better things to do rather than waste time spreading bull**** rumours on an Internet forum. If Ladbrokes have closed the books, then they've closed the books.

Read into that what you will, but there is no smoke without fire.....

What's your problem???

I don't know if this is a Ladbroke policy or just the Ladbroke in Woolston. Why do some fans feel the need to get personal and offensive? This a Saints Fan's Forum, where fellow fans come and share story's, pic's, tales and rumours. Like it or not there is 100% something going on, these rumours are on the Palace site, football forum site, 606 site etc! I hope there is nothing in it, I hope that Woolston Ladbroke's have stopped taking bet's because everyone at yesterdays game heard the same rumour and fancied making a couple of £ and popped in there on the way back to The Bridge Inn. True or not I think Mr Cortesse needs to say something, even if it's a simple "we stand 100% behind Alan and all these rumours are complete tosh"
