Flat.

I have been apprehensive for this season all summer, but generally felt it would work out ok.

I never ever thought it would turn out like this. Tonights result was like a flash back to a few seasons ago.

It's a nightmare.

You know deep down that something like this has been on the cards since May, just like I do. The level of expectation, the shoe-in for promotion...it just aint us...

How is everyone feeling right now?

Personally i'm not angry, sad, confused...I just feel completely flat. For once I actually had genuine optimism about the season ahead, and in just a couple of days it's been ripped away from me.

Nutshell. Really happy after Saturday. Only the Lallana injury to dampen things. Now everything has been messed up. I was a Cortese fan before, but with decisions like this he needs to come out and justify it. Absolute madness, especially if we actually haven't got anyone lined up!

That's kind of why i've felt apprehensive, especially with the crazy hype about us pre-season.

but i honestly never envisaged it turning out like this. It's honestly like we're jinxed.

After the win on Saturday it seemed like the season had started. Now you just wonder what horror is waiting for us next. One thing to ditch the manager but three of them at once? I don't know what Cortese is thinking about but he seems to know nothing about sport or who to handle big calls.

Depending on who comes in it may still work out okay, but at the moment I can't help thinking that our CEO has made a very, very big mistake.

Seconded. Very much a "wind out of sails" last few days, not helped by tonight's roll-over-and-die result. Still, onwards and upwards I suppose. What else can you do? NC has to pull a rabbit out of a hat now, or else he can expect Saturday's gate to be the highest of the next few months....

I remember that look on Claridge's face on Saturday night "The big boys have kicked into gear now, the Southamptons...." How wrong he was.

Glad we're out the JPT in a way.

Annoyed/surprised NC didn't have a manager waiting in the wings before sacking Pardew.

Hopeful of someone in advance of Saturday.

From what Solent have said and what i was told earlier, we're not even close to anyone. It will be a few weeks at least.

You have to ask yourself, what type of football club have SFC become over the last few weeks. We seem to be doing our level best to throw away all of the good things from last season. Was Markus keeping Cortese in check, or is this what he wanted all along?....jeez, who knows?

I want my evening back. In such a bad mood. It shouldn't matter but it does right now. I was willing to give cortese a chance but I now feel hatred for the guy.

My first ever season ticket and willingness to attend most cup games and it all goes to pot for saints.

Some **** kept farting near me too... Not happy.

That to my mind would be catastrophic. NC cannot claim to be seeking to ensure promotion this season, whilst at the same time procrastinating over a decision which could well decide whether or not that promotion occurs. After tonight's pathetic result, let's imagine we draw or lose to Rochdale, with still no manager in sight. We then lose or draw the next game - perfectly possible, and perhaps probable - and find ourselves 9 to 12 points adrift at this early stage. In what way has NC then given himself and his new man a chance of achieving this much vaunted objective of getting promoted? I cannot believe he is so naive as to think that this inter-reginal period will have no effect on the team; he cannot be that simple. And if the Pardew sacking has been coming, he must have been putting out feelers. This has to be sorted by Saturday, and my gut feeling is that it will be, irrespective of what people may be hearing and what news outlets are putting out. If it isn't sorted by Saturday, or very soon thereafter, it could be way too late and NC can kiss any hope of promotion goodbye.

Disillusioned by the rumour and conspiracy theories behind the departure of AP. But if the club refuse to divulge any info then that vacuum will inevitably be filled by conjecture.

Suddenly dark clouds are over SMS......just as things were looking bright......I would imagine Rochdale will be up for Saturday and another home defeat on the cards.......seems we have gone from contenders to also rans in a few hours .......amazing stuff Saints!!

Flat is spot on. I've never known real success as a saints fan and for once I thought this was about to change, I was optimistic for the first time in 10 years of (properly) supporting saints.

Now I feel like its all happening over again. Same old same old. I know it's early in the season, I know things might change, but I would just love to support a successful, stable club.

like I want to support another club

I bought a half season ticket last season for the first time ever in over 30 years of supporting Saints - to make sure I got JPT final tickets and to enjoy what I hoped was going to be a push for the play-offs at the end of the season

this summer I bought a Season ticket for the first time - partly because I was expecting a great season - some great signings over the summers to show our inten - and a team that would hit the ground running

now I really really wish I hadn't bothered

it means I'm going to go to the game on Saturday wishing I wasn't

if Swindon can beat us 3-0 we are in trouble

Was always worried about the blind ambition of the club since the takeover and concerned that it may result in the club being less about the fans and more about a cold, single minded drive for success.

Success is great but at what expense.....................I'll heed my own advice and keep some perspective - I'd take our position over many other clubs for sure

Flat is about it, and sorry for all those who bought their first ever season tickets for this season, expecting a stroll through league.

Saints just doesn't work like that !

The big problem is not the fans who were expecting this but the Chairman... Money is great. I have no issue with having it and lots of it. But it alone cannot guarantee immediate success. Pardew's win ratio with Saints might not be bettered by another two/three managers. Look at Chelsea post Mourinho. We might have a Scolari before our Ancelotti arrives... Finding a manager prepared to take on a squad he cannot change and deliver promotion inside nine months or be fired will not be hard. Allowing him to achieve it might be...

I feel crap. This season was supposed to be 'our' season. I remember fondly going to the pub in early August and a mate of mine - a Brighton fan - looked over to me and said 'favourites to win the league, your lot are'. I was so full of pride.

And now, less than one month later, we are back where we were when Lowe was around. A chairman with out a brain cell in his head, a down-hearted, demoralized squad, uncertainty and the death of the man who ponied up the cash for this chairman to play with. And saddest of all, a miserable fan base.

Really, really unhappy. Cortese had better pull a ****ing plump bunny out the hat within days or he will be filed alongside Lowe in the annals of Saints history.

I second what someone said earlier in that I'm actually glad we lost tonight and it was great to hear the fans singing for Alan Pardew, and I hope Cortese felt very uncomfortable sitting in the stand. The decision to sack Pardew is one of the worst decisions in our history because Pardew would have got us promoted this season.I feel totally gobsmacked and Cortese better unveil a top class replacement or he'll be hated from now on.

Feel that everything is going tits up. Pardew had a plan. He may not have been perfect, but no manager is and if they were intent on getting rid, should have done so in the summer when a new manager would have had a chance to implement his plan - ultimate stupidity to waste all that preparation and planning on someone who was going to be sacked whatever! Just when we were getting it together - bunch of arse!

I know I posted this on the other thread, but it belongs here too:

Not sure what to say. Everything I have been told over the past few months appears to have had a lot of substance. It gives me no pleasure but that performance was clearly influenced by Pardew's sacking. I cannot disagree with you more strongly Weston. The players have CLEARLY been affected by this. I was no huge Pardew fan but to sack him the day before the window closes when he was looking to bring in more faces is just madness. I am totally deflated by both the awful performance tonight but also by the feeling that part of me wanted us to lose. I just feel so ashamed that we have acted with no loyalty and like we are becoming a lower league Man City. The way I feel at the moment, I don't think we deserve another victory.

For me, supporting Southampton is about sharing an experience with other fans. About watching players who play with commitment and above themselves but above all it's about me feeling connected with the club and a feeling that "we are all in this together." For me Cortese has ruined this. It has become an "us and them" scenario with the views of supporters no longer encouraged and no longer listened to. MLT and Benali are discouraged from coming to games and the thought of that just depresses me hugely. Southampton used to be a family, a small club who punched above their weight and who had a great laugh doing it. I now feel detached from the club in the same way that I did during the end of Lowe's reign, except that this time there is nothing I can do to affect change.

Cortese feels that Southampton is his baby, well it's not. SFC is owned by the fans who will be here long after you have left with your ridiculous ideas which have made myself and many other supporters feel isolated and like no one cares about supporters anymore. Call me stupid but I liked the fact that the press and others clubs had a soft spot for us. I liked the fact that we never paid mega bucks for players but that we had our own home grown heroes who gave a sh*t typified by the wonderful MLT. I look at the various things which have happened this summer and I just shake my head and wonder where it all went wrong.

I'm not debating the rights or wrongs of these decisions, but they really have left me feeling like I am losing my club. The thought of having a smaller version of Chelsea as a club in the premiership in a few years makes me want to go down the road and support Eastleigh. I am incredibly sad tonight.

Agree 100%. If Lowe Mark 2 has not got a top-top-top flight manager in by the Colchester game then our season is over. I want this club to be stable. I said last summer before ML bought the club that I would trade prem football for solid stability every time. Is cortese mental?

I would sooner be watching entertaining football in the championship than Premiership football. For a start it would mean I would only be able to go to about 3 games a season because a ticket would be so expensive. Look at Blackpool and how they are going about things. The are having a great time and enjoying every minute of it. That's how football should be not this what's in it for me mentality. Look at Norwich and how they price their season tickets so generously and how they listen to fans to give them the best experience possible. What is saddest for me is that Southampton FC is now a 'what's in it for me' club. I liked the fact that we had things such as the ex players lounge where legends like MLT could have come for free if they had wanted to. OK so with cold hard numbers that might have lost the club some money but it adds so much more value to the club than just something which can be written down on a balance sheet. There are so man other examples of where the SFC 'family' feeling of inclusion has been lost. That's really the most depressing thing in all this. It doesn't feel like it used to.

This. Every single bloody word of it. I now feel like someone who is just "there" on matchdays, if that makes sense? I dont think it does, but i know what I mean.

This sacking, for me, will cost us big time. I will be happy to be proved wrong. I have never, ever put £20 on Saints to lose before tonight, it was gonna happen, I won £100 and it has in no way made me feel the slightest bit better. It wasn't only the JPT, this was our team showing that something aint right, IMO.

I was in the best of health earlier, then i get back from the game and have the Squits. It may be the terrible performance, but it's more likely to be the burger I had from the van outside the ground.

Or a combination of both...

We need a new manager fast, or this apathy will grow. New manager, loan signings, and better performances, or Cortese better ring Lowe for tips on avoiding lynch mobs.
