EastleighSoulBoy Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Watching Saints V Peterborough for free as part of the Saints birthday celebrations? - marvelous. Watching my son, walking around the pitch in his special T shirt as part ... of the Saints birthday celebrations? - heartwarmingly wonderful. Seeing my son's crestfallen face because some no name jerk made the decision to take all the kid's T shirts back? - priceless. I've been through some lows in my time as a Saints fan but I'm an adult and take the rough with the smooth. How do I explain to nipper that the disappointment does go away? This is one that I, even as an adult, cannot and will not understand.
Saint_clark Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 He said there was 2500 kids in all weren't there? That works out at £25,000 if the shirts only cost a tenner. Not giving an opinion either way tbh, just saying.

If the T shirt was £2, bulk price, then that might be a fair price. £10 a shirt would have seen Saints ripped off. Let's call it £5? = £3000? Wow! ottery st mary Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 (edited) Sorry to hear about the young lad.... I believe Saints should have let the kids keep the clothing tops... Money is very tight at the moment but may tie in with family ..wills/probate etc etc.. Lets hope things go our way and the wins keep coming the crowds keep rising and for starters there will be up a\round the 30,000 mark or more on Tuesday night.. PS Maybe they want the tops for the 150th celebrations..ie cross out 125 etc.....That is not funny ottery ... Lighthouse Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Anone else think the 'celebration' of our 125th year was a bit naff? I'm sure it was a memorable event for all the kids involved and I don't begrudge them that, but as a spectacle for the fans... I was hoping to see a few old faces. Perhaps some of the '76 Cup final team and the cup if they could get their hands on it.

Have you perhaps considered that we are essentially talking about a charity here? Chez Posted 21 November, 2010 Share Posted 21 November, 2010 was that the 125 year celebrations? I thought it was just Saints FC showing its work in the community through the Saints Foundation. If it was to celebrate 125 years it was, well, quite strange really. I guess I needed to waste my money on a programme and then it might have allmade sense as the public address system is so **** I didn't have a clue what was going on. Not that I think 125 is a significant milestone.

That is the only logical explanation I can think of. Although I don't see why the children couldn't keep them as a bit of memorabilia It's pretty obvious that they have another purpose for these shirts. They won't be selling them on after they have been worn. It would not surprise me if these shirts were already made up for some other purpose. Someone then has the bright idea of letting these kids wear them for this occasion for the PR, is there anything really wrong with that?

sperm_john Posted 21 November, 2010 Share Posted 21 November, 2010 What are they going to do with these t shirts theyve taken back now? surely they cant sell them as they are soiled (worn) goods ...so they are going to knock around in a cupboard for the rest of the year and eventually get thrown away as next year wont be a celebration year ...sounds like a cynical decision to me tbh, kids are the future support of any club and this is a terrible business decision, even if it is just a shirt .. SnailOB Posted 21 November, 2010 Share Posted 21 November, 2010 My son received a letter from his school offering the free tickets for yesterday. I'm sure his school stated that the kids were given a t-shirt and read the letter to assume that they would keep the t-shirt afterwards. Not too bothered either way, we didn't need the tickets as we have season tickets but they still let him walk around the pitch with his class mates. He was more chuffed about walking around the pitch than about not being able to keep a cheap t-shirt and i think his classmates (and their parents) were more than happy with the chance to see a saints game for free. Agree it was a strange decision not to let the kids keep the shirts but not the end of the world !
Faz Posted 21 November, 2010 Share Posted 21 November, 2010 Looking at the pictires on the website, the T Shirts said Saints Foundation - not the fooball club (maybe I moot point I accpet). Perhaps the foundation plans to use them for other events? Perhaps the intend to give them to people who really need them? Who knows. But hardly a PR disaster. EastleighSoulBoy Posted 22 November, 2010 Author Share Posted 22 November, 2010 To be honest, if you are seriously moaning about this, you may be a ****. Classy. If there was an impression created, which was obviously false, that all the kids would get a free t-shirt then I agree that it was a mistake to create such an impression (which presumably was an accident). Hardly a PR disaster though and hardly going to be the overriding memory for any kid that isn't a spoilt brat. Even classier! The last memory the kids may have from the day is of an adult asking them for the shirt back. I wouldn't think many of those kids are spoilt brats. Although many were disappointed because they obviously felt they were going to get a T shirt! Furthermore, if it had not been for some parents getting their kids down to the concourse they would have missed the parade as nobody came to collect them, as Mark Abrahams informed would happen. My complaint is not against the Saints Foundation as such, it's obvious they do a good job and the training after school, which is what my son is involved in, is actually paid for by us parents with possibly aid from the school/education authority. So, indirectly, the kids aid the foundation. It's just the lack of organisation and, seemingly, a small minded attitude about the T shirts. Unbeliveable, Families given a free ticket and still some people moan!!!!!! Get a life and as a previous poster said. if your that bothered go out and get him a t shirt with the money you SAVED on the ticket. You taking him to the next game? I exepct not as you will have to put your hand in your pocket. It might well pay you to read the thread prior to ranting, we have season tickets so we have already paid out. We also choose to spend at the club shop almost every game. Be it a lapel badge, a present for someone else's birthday/Christmas etc. Also, as previously mentioned, the parents help fund the Foundation by paying for the training provided by it. Saint Mikey Posted 23 November, 2010 Share Posted 23 November, 2010 I have been made aware that these t-shirts will be going to a number of schools in Kenya, as dictated to by the Saints Foundation. Maybe the OP should know apologise, or would he rather that geunine needy kids go without? Honestly, it's a joke. Kids get free tickets and people still moan. Just buy your kid a t-shirt FFS and stop bothering the forum with petty, self-indulgent gripes.

Colinjb Posted 23 November, 2010 Share Posted 23 November, 2010 (edited) Just wondering, where did the idea that these shirts could be kept in the first place come from? Was it ever said by the person giving the shirts out or just assumed by the childrens parents? Edit: Just seen that the free ticket letter said the children would be 'given' a t-shirt to wear. Ok, an easy (if wishful) assumption to make. But still an assumption all the same, another lesson to the club, never leave a grey area in your gestures... despite a free something they will always want more.
