Barnard injury...

I think Guly is more than good enough to fill his boots for that time period. Do we have him till january or the whole season?

Really ? Do you think Guly would have taken that chance in his stride to score in the first half ? And don't you think Barnard might have been a little more reliable with that one on one Guly had near the end?

Yes,Guly gives us an option and is skilfull, but another Barnard he most certainly isn't.

Guly has a lot more potential than Barnard. He is a class above all our players.

You do Guly a disservice - he had to get into a position that provided the opportunity for the through-ball to be played. That in itself was an example of a 1st class move from a player that knows how to execute such a run. If that high quality type of off-ball movement and forward passing skill was displayed consistently week in week out, more goals would be scored (by all our strikers) and we would be knocking on the door of the Prem very quickly indeed. Guly is one of the players already equipped for the NPC and Prem IMO. While Barnard has his own qualities, I am not certain that he (yet) has that instinctive ability (but it might come).

Didn't a certainly Bradley Wright-Phillips often get himself in those positons too? Only to miss 75% of the time, being in the right position does not make you a class player, you have to finish the job too.

The same Wright Phillips who is top scorer in our league with 10 goals so far?

to have Guly as cover in this league we are extremely lucky. He has a lot of class. His touch is great and his movement and timing of runs ain't half bad either. What a wonderful option to have when one of our best players (Barnard) gets injured. Oh, and Connolly is there too.

But Guly is class, no doubt about that. And yes, he missed two sitters, that there is also no doubt.

So BWP has found his scoring touch in League One, I don't know how many were one-on-ones are in that 10 but if he finds himself in the Championship I don't think he would be topping the scoring charts or anywhere near the top.

Anyway, if Barney needs an op, we need cover for at least FIVE weeks.

That I suspect will be the story of his season, a player who can delight, and frustrate, in equal measure.

Agree we are lucky to have him in the squad (almost said "building"), but not sure how reliable over the course of a season he will be.

Adam Le Fondre FFS

Wasn't there talk of them wanting over £2million for him? Even allowing for a bit of hype on the price he wouldn't be cheap. And even if we are supposedly still well off by L1 standards, can we afford him?

Are there no decent Sheffield Wedneday players we can nick for a bargain price as they try to stave off administration?

To be fair Badger, Barnard took a while to settle in when he came as we were playing Lambert and Connoly at the time. Given a decent run in the side there is nothing to suggest Guly would not be as good as Barny. Would Barnard have taken those chances in his first few months here whilst not starting regularly. Possibly not.

Has a hernia problem... Spoke to NA after his first game and he told me it was his hernia, and after yesterdays game I asked if it was the same problem and he said yes.

At some point in the season then, we could be without him for a short spell.

Lots of good players .." play on " an injury, and it's the wise manager who doesn't use them too much.

The hernia may not be so serious and if he starts, and gets a goal in the first 45, then it's sensible to sub. him as soon as he feels the problem returning. Enter; Connolly and / or Guly.

It's good that we have several other players with 4-5 goals each already, so if we keep up with 3-4 goals a game then an op, ASAP !
