Nigel Adkins - top man!

Saint Charlie

Recommended Posts

Certainly the right man - and that is a great feeling to have. I love his enthusiasm for Saints, we are a good club and its nice to have a Manager that sees that.

Hopefully a few more deals to help him out but I trust him 100%, he will take us up this year IMO.

Onwards and upwards.

we seem to be in a minority Saint Charlie.

Considering that it's a few decades since our club stood in a promotion place - in any league, I'm quite pleased.

My fan-ship with Saints goes back to - a 3rd round FA Cup tie against Blackpool ..in January 1959 !

Through all those years of dedicated management from Ted Bates, then the northern enthusiasm of Lawrie Mc Menemy

with associated honours and a string of less memorable successors..I find Nigel Adkins' style very refreshing.

Pity so many of our fans don't share his own manner of enthusiasm !

Don't base your opinion, on a few people posting on a forum. To a man/woman, all those I know who support Saints, thinks we have the right man in place, as do I.

NIce to hear that Gingertiss.

Some postings can be a bit misleading, and I wondered why this one was generated in the beginning..I think NA is top grade!

I was delighted when he was appointed and I have seen nothing to doubt my enthusiasm for the job I believe he will do or to warrant a dip in belief that he will not achieve great things here.

Personally I have not met a Saints fan who doesn't rate him!

Very true, people who actually go to games seem to have a different opinions than some of the posters on here. Adkins is the man.

Credit where it is due, it sounds like we out-everything'd them today, players wanted it more, but Adkins got the tactics spot on too, not to mention also making a number of changes ourselves.

Most people clearly believe in NA, but even those who still aren't sure must surely accept that he and the team have earnt the benefit of anyones doubt now.

I am a very big fan of Adkins, but I would rather we never got to play this game today. The acid test will come against Oldham and the games following, lose that and this win means very little. The couple of areas where I am not comfortable is playing both Schneiderlin and Hammond in midfield, Gobern I feel should have played. Playing both Bernard and Lambert for so long just does not feel right if either are to start on Tuesday. The target has to be automatic promotion with no distractions from any other aspect. Any build up of injuries / problems to the team because of these games is totally unacceptable.

Failure last year cost us millions as would this year, along with the issue that investment into the team may be far more difficult to achieve. Everyone is overjoyed that Lallana has signed a new deal and I hope most of us view Puncheon being played as another positive point. The only reason this is possible is because of the money available to the club, start sticking in this division for much longer and those star players would not be prepared to stay longer and investment could become a major issue. We need promotion to keep everything on track! We have an unprecedented amount of games to be played and hopefully our squad will be a major advantage.

Hopefully this will have no effect but this was a nothing match, where it's importance will be measured by the possible damage done to the league campaign, This was a very weak Blackpool side, maybe just a championship side from their players, but hardly a compact unit used to playing together and nothing to bragg about. Well done Saints, who played well by all accounts.

I've liked him from the moment he arrived.

Pardew was far too full of himself for my liking, wheras Nigel Adkins is humble and genuine.

Plus, and this is key, him and Nicola are opposites so they'll get on well.

  • 2 weeks later...

He really is not that good.

This is almost vomit inducing.

Even at one point people were fawning over his interview skills.......his interviews are appalling, incomperhensible nonsense.

I am now back in the underwhelmed camp.

We will lose games, and the one thing that has been missing is inconsistancy but yesterdays manner of defeat is unacceptable.

I thought he had turned a corner but i am little less convinced now.

He is not a top man,he is mediocre.

The sooner some of you realise, the better.

I am on the bus and sometimes in the building..

I support him as a Saints supporter...He could do better with tactics and substitutions.....like most Managers..

He will be just right for us as long as he can change the punctured tyres on the bloooody bus everytime required..

Come on our Nigel...BIG test our next three/four league games

lol...i loss and people turn on him

lol

Ahh i knew i would get one,and no surprise it is you.

It's not about one game, and you know that.I have been steadfast in my opinions from day one,and ate humble pie when it looked as though he was really going to do the business.

But yesterdays showing was attrocious,by all accounts.

You can carry on wetting yourself with his wonderous appointment and i will remain in the 'meh' he is ok camp.

He has done nothing yet.

Well if he could get the team to beat Tranmere people would be happy but a wretched performance and a bad result following the Notts County game show that he might not be that good

ffs, all teams lose games.....how many times did we beat man u at the dell....how many times did we beat liverpool..?

brighton failed to win at tranmere.....have brighton fans turned on poyet...? before you say it, hasnt adkins gained more (or equal) points to poyet since being saints manager..?

we smashed huddersfield 4-1....are udders fans losing faith with clarke whilst sat 3rd in the league..

do people really believe we are going to go all season unbeaten..?

no wonder the rest of the league take the pish out of us for being so bloody arrogant

what about the five games before that? 4-1 win against the team currently one place above us, 6-0 away at a team that had only lost once before at home all season, couple of bad performances and all of a sudden he is the new Tony Adams FFS, some of you lot are unreal.

It's not about winning every game.

Please, take a look at the bigger picture.

You appear only to be able to pick and select miniscule previous events to back up you overwhelming blind faith in the man.

Have we really moved on any great strides?

I await the usual 'statistic' post.

Which in all honesty proves nothing, when all that counts is the progression of SFC.

We continue to fail when it really matters.

Have read a few of your posts regarding NA and am confused by your comments about making great strides.

Now i certainly wouldn't say great strides were made since departure of Pardew but I would say that we have now found a bit of stability.

After Brentford game, i thought the performance was one of the worst I had seen in a while, after that we had an amazing run until Notts County and now Tranmere. Basically par for the course with regards to the ups and downs of being a football fan (albeit more 'ups' than 'downs' at the moment.)

So what are you looking for ?

Are we playing better now than at the start of the season? Yes or no

Has Adkins pciked up more points (or at least the top two) in this division since he has been here? Yes or no

If we win our game in hand will we be in the top two? Yes or no

Where we ever in that position last season, even without the minus 10 points? Yes or no

Is that progress? Yes or no.

It's not about winning every game. It seems like that's the only way to keep you happy

Please, take a look at the bigger picture. Okay, before Tranmere we had lost 1 game in 10, scoring 26 goals, letting in 5.

You appear only to be able to pick and select miniscule previous events to back up you overwhelming blind faith in the man. You apear to only be able to pick select miniscule and rare defeats in your blind hatred for the man

Have we really moved on any great strides? We were something like 18th when he took over, and in January of the same season he took over, it's hard to move on much more than we have.

I await the usual 'statistic' post.

Ooops. Stats don't lie. We have progressed in a short time. We can't win the league in January. We will lose games along the way.

Your facts clearly mean nothing. Your reasoned and considered argument pales in significance against the 'bigger picture'.

But what is the 'bigger picture'?? Is it merely a completely ambiguous, and therefore impossible to argue against with real facts, measure of a manager's success or is there more to it than that?

The 'bigger picture'. Discuss

At least he lost this one out of the building.

I don't give a sh*t who manages this team of ours so long as he gets us out of this cesspit of a league, I mean S****horpe can win it and we can't????? What the Fudge is that all about?

Here's a man with the best resources of any club ever in Division 3 and he can't even craft a win against a team more or less doomed to the 4th Division next year - I wonder how long he'll be smiling after Monday's meeting?

Last seven games, W5 D1 L1, 16 points out of a possible 21. We are inconsistant.

unreal...when nige came in, that was it, we had blown any chance of promotion, pardew was the best we could ever do and no one (apart from the waiting martin o'neil) could do any better than 5th (giving back the 10 points last season)...season over, cortese is a ****..

ffs, in a couple of months, we have gone from 22nd to 2nd and now 4th, a couple of points from 2nd with a game in hand....

and now its all gloom and doom because we dared to lose a game....seriously, this is hillarious....people say that cortese makes us a laughing stock, when in fact, the rants of so many arrogant fans are what makes us a laughing stock...

if you look at other message boards round the times they play us...the only slagging that goes on is about how arrogant our fans are..not the chairman...and by the knocking of our manager for daring to lose a game and the team drop to 4th (still would go 2nd if we win our game in hand) is unreal...

if we were languishing 4 points or so from the playoffs right NOW..ala sheff wed, then of course adkins would need to be looked at...but 4th, with a game in hand on 2nd...whilst smashing in the goals, playing some good bloody football is pathetic really

i think man united are the only uneaten team from the 92 league teams.....says it all really
