What a load of rubbish

The headline reads that he favours a move to Chelsea, but no where in the article does it actually say that.

Infact one of the few quotes they do have, from Chamberlain Snr:

‘You see some of these young boys nowadays who are on big contracts, earning “X” amount of pounds, acting like they have made it,’ he said.

‘I wouldn’t like it if Alex was to go down that route, I wouldn’t be too pleased at all. He’s fine at the moment but we will keep an eye on that.

Paper w@nk indeed. His old man seems to be well grounded which will hopefully be our gain.

That article presents him as full of himself. I don't really believe the Mail though on anything.

Cough cough. You only have to read his facebook update where he says that everyone wants him to know his head is being turned.

walcott left us to early. he was a nice sensible lad when he was with us. now hes turned into another full of himself player who even likes to cheat. Good riddance, arrogant ****

It might not be his fault but more likely to be the cheating gets at arsenal who have changed him from being the boy next door to a typical arsenal player

From what I hear from people close(ish) to him, he is likely to be off. That would also make sense of why it's gone quiet on transfers. Presumably we know the money is coming but trying to do the deals before it's common knowledge which will push the prices through the roof.

I hope he stays but I think it's pretty unlikely.

Excellent article today in the Telegraph sports section headed 'New Walcott' set for fast track to the top, and a quote from that article 'As of last night, no club had made even an informal approach .........'

No. They're doing all their work through the newspapers. Fortunately as of yet it doesn't appear to be effecting his performances.

I'll say again for those who haven't got it yet.

Having spoke to him last week

Alex said, "he is not going anywhere"

He is a well grounded lad with a great Dad

Why do Saints fans continually get sucked into paper talk.

Get on with your lives and enjoy the second half of the season! God knows we had enough pain!

A week is a long time in polictics, sorry I mean football. Let's hope he does stay or indeed we get top top dollar for him if he does go. I still think the mostly likely outcome, if there is any movement at all, is a loanback arrangement of some kind.

Its all Paper carp at the moment, yesterday the papers were full of Fergie joining the race to sign him. He surely wasn't at Oldham just to watch his young keeper & his 4th round cup opponents was he  .His dad is someone who will lead him down the correct route to which he sees best serves his son's development. With Saints he has some measure of control over that, being he will be reasonably/well paid, he is being protected to a degree, getting plenty of playing time & developing in the right way at a club on the up. he will hopefully continue to play at higher level at Southampton. he has time on his side and maybe he will get the big move & megga bucks in a few years(hopefully not). Theo went to early cosseted for 3 wasted years in the Arsenal youth/reserves his development stunted. In my opinion he would have grown more strength wise & decision making(still lacking in my view), if he'd stayed with Saints for those 3 wasted years.

Alex appears to have a sensible father who brought him to Saints as he thought it was the best place for his son to be, I see know reason for that to change at the moment.

I've just checked my SaintsWeb Forum edition of Top Trumps and "spoken to him" definately beats "heard from people close(ish)" by some margin

Now, had it been 'wing span' things would have been a lot tighter....

To be honest this is becoming a farce. Some of the tabloids are obsessed with printing these stories with no substance whatsoever, at the moment there is one story a day from all the major papers/football sites about alex leaving. Tribal football, the 2nd worst football news site ever is just making up stories the latest: Man Utd plan to buy Oxlade-Chamberlain and loan him back to Southampton. ******. Its clear that liverpool et al are greasing these journos to print this crap. All it does is destabilise the lad. I doubt anyone will offer 10m, especially up front. Remember victor moses at palace being linked with a 20m move to barca, ended up going to wigan for 3m or something. We should not sell unless we are offered ridiculous money up front and we should give alex a new contract to show our faith in him

I took a job on double money but with much less caring and training. All I saw was the $£$£. I really wish I'd stayed and developed my skills at the original place with a lot less weight on my shoulders. On the other hand, double money didn't mean I could retire for life after a year - so in Oxo's circs I might just jump ship for the big money.

I would flog him for £10 million now, if and only if, we got all of it up front. We'd be mad not to. With that £10 mill we could add at least three or four really decent players who would not only confirm that we'd go up this season automatically but would also be good enough to have us challenging for promotion from the championship next season. Losing the Ox will not harm our chances this season and next. It would only improve them.

If AC is that good why hasnt there be an alleged bid from Man Citeh then

Man City generally buy players to go straight into the first team, they don't need to develop young'uns while they've got all that cash backing.

That's not to say they wouldn't get involved if only to stop their rivals getting hold of him. That's why we could end up with £10m up front!

I don't agree with that. He is an extremely important member of the side. You may bring three or four in but you can only play 11, and who ever plays right midfield would not be as good as he is, so straight away you have reduced the quality of the side - unless of course the three new players you talk about are going straight into the first 11.

Losing Alex WILL effect the balance and quality of the side.

after missing out on Bale all the top sides are going to be thinking very carefully about allowing Alex to slip through their fingers.

As we demonstrated with Fonte, and now even more so considering our league position, we could potentially attract right midfielders from either abroad or the Championship. I don't believe that Alex is the best right sided midfielder outside of the premiership. The players that we would bring in would also have to be better than players we currently have in our first team. We would still be winning matches at the moment with or without Alex in the team. We are that good.

Liverpool are supposed to be looking at a Dutch wide man from Hamburg, Elajero or something like that, Dutch international anyway.

If that's the case I very much doubt that they'll be looking at any other wide men in the 10£ million bracket this time round. CM is a much bigger problem area for them .

Now I might be missing something here but I've watched over half our games this season and I seriously can't see what all the fuss and speculation is about. He's obviously got talent and plenty of pace but he is nowhere near the class of player that Bale and Walcott are .............. yet! He's played just 12 games for us - how can anyone be valued on that? Is this 10 million pounds being "speculatively offered" in the hope that he will go on improving? Don't get me wrong, I do not want Saints to sell him for any money. He's just the type of player we need. I'm sure if he stays with us he could be playing in the Premiership within 3 years (hopefully). But at present a much bigger loss would be to sell any of Lallana, Lambert, Fonte or Kelvin. I remember all the talk about Nathan Dyer being a better prospect than Walcott. Only time will tell whether Oxo is going to be a star.

17 years old, 12 starts, 7 goals, 3 assists? He's an outstanding prospect.

Also tipped by English FA's Director of Football Development as one of England's big hopes and scouted by all the big clubs in England.

£10m is cheap if anything, considering he still has possibly over 15 years as a top player left in his career.

Luckily both Cortese and Adkins have said he won't be sold and we have little reason to doubt them.

We were extremely fortunate to land Fonte. If Palace had been stable I seriously doubt he would have left them to come to us. I don't see top class championship players queuing up to drop down a division and believe me they would need to be top class to be better than Chamberlain. As for winning games without him, don't get ahead of yourself. Yes we are going well at the moment, but he is a vital cog in that wheel, take his pace out of the side and you lose a lot.

There is no reason for him to leave or for us to believe he will leave; the rest is up to us, get promoted twice and why would he want to leave?

After that we can do anything Spurs have been able to do and let's face it they only did it by taking our best player away from us, as mancini said today bale is 60% of Spurs! - Of course Bale, baled us out but it wasn't that long ago we beat Spurs 4-0 in the FA Cup and 1-0 in the PL all within a week.
