Do players view forums?

Just wondering whether it's likely that the players read the things that are written about them/their performances on this and other saints related forums??! I know AOC uses Facebook and must get comments on there about him and despite this type of site apparently not representing the majority of the fanbase it must be tempting to see what people are saying...

So much has changed to do with how we communicate in the last decade with social networking/forums etc that the players must get so much more feedback these days if they do use these things. Could that have positive and negative effects with attitude, pressure, nerves etc?

Or do you think that as professionals they wouldn't allow themselves to come across what is being said about them in the online world? I guess the advice from the club would be to stay away but what with Dickson being on twitter and AOC on Facebook it does make you wonder who is watching what is said on here.......

I reckon quite a few will have a sneak peek during the week.

The site admin could of course confirm this in a matter of milliseconds, but I am sure they will behave more discreetly than that...

How would they confirm it though? Could they not use false details?

Damn data protection act cos I'd love it if the site admin could reveal that :)

Shame we can't have players openly posting on here as themselves. Would make some really interesting conversations.

Must admit that that dalek matey came to mind but that would be ridiculously obvious :)

Hello to Nicola if you're reading... Please don't listen to what some say about you ;-)

I don't think it would help the players to take much notice of the things that get written on here. Depending of which thread and which poster they were reading they might think they were the best player since Pele or the worst player to ever wear a saints shirt or probably both at the same time.

I remember reading an article about how a goal keeper was a poster on his clubs forum. Other posters didn’t believe him so he said he would do something unusual during the next game to prove it was him. They asked him to kick both posts before taking his first goal kick, which he did proving it was him. The story then went on to say that another poster also claimed he was a player and said he would prove it as well. When he asked what he should do that was unusual to prove who he was, the answer he got was “pass to one of our players”. .........Made me laugh anyway.I wish I could remember where I read it.

I know a group of players used to share a log-in that they used to view and post on the forum, but whether that still happens I don't know.

Wouldn't surprise me if a few of the current squad had a look from time to time. I'd certainly be tempted if I were in their shoes!

I doubt too many of them would have logged in after Tuesday mind . . . ;)

Actually if you read the captain's piece by Kelvin in the Swindon match day programme, you could imagine he had been reading this message board......................

What did he say in the programme to give that impression? Something like: "Look, Skacel never signed for us, FFS." or "At least we're not as sh1te as that sh1tty SaintsWeb Server"? Am I warm?

Harchester Uniteds Danny Sullivan used to go on their fans forum with the login Dragon Slayer and revealed all sorts of internal goings on at the Dragons Layer. This was after he became bitter about his injury forced him to retire.

More about the fans being more nervous than the players about promotion, you can't expect the team to win 6-0 evey week, sometimes you have to grind out the win, we're still in the mix. Oh and some bloke going by the handle of trousers really gets on his tits........

Sullivan/Wotton parallels maybe!?

This is what makes me think they do, otherwise how else would Kelvin get such a sense of how fans are feeling? Surely not just from how we react in the stadium?

Also the way that major talking points on here end up being significant enough for Cortese to refer to some of them in interviews makes me think he himself or his employees research fan opinion online

Oh and wonder if Kelvin found those missing nerves after Tuesday night....

I'm sure when Crouch was in charge they were listening to what was being said on the forums.

TBH, the club would be mad not to do so - it's free and easy customer research.

You don't need to read this forum to know that the fans are nervous about promotion, the way the atmosphere at the ground changes according to how we play makes it obvious.

I suppose we also have to consider the fact that the daily echo clearly use this site and I'm sure it has a major impact on what is written and that is more likely to get out to the players....

Again with the Echo; they'd be mad not to read this site. But I don't think that just because rumours sometimes appear on here before the Echo publish them, that it necessarily means the Echo have used this place as source.

(apologies if this is not what you're getting at)

It is sensible for any business to monitor customer opinion.

I'd be very surprised if the club doesn't monitor a range of forums. I'm sure they're not reading every single post but it would be silly to ignore a source of free customer research.

Look and see when Ticket Office was logged in last. They are usually on line when anything concerning tickets is in the offing. They were even online on a Sunday afternoon when we drew Man U in the cup. The club watches over this forum all of the time.

TO was online at a few minutes before 11 this morning. So they know all about those of you who are going into the home end at Bournemouth, probably gave Danny a call about his Colchester ticket as well.

In a fair few cases it does seem like the echo write articles based on rumour started on here. Not that Im saying theres anything wrong with that if they admit it is a rumour as they have to get their info from somewhere.

What I meant was when the players get a sense of nervousness from the fans it may be filtering through via this site to the echo (In the way they write their articles) and then out to players rather than the players actually reading comments on here.

Bloody hope they don't, they'd be suicidal after losing a game and reading some of the commnets on here (especially those from people who didn't even attend the game concerned)

I'm sure one of the posters on here was a jurno for the echo Dan somebody a rather, he used to do some quite funny little pieces in the Pink. You could tell from those pieces he was a poster on here from some of things he said. Then somebody outed him (Stu romesy saint I think) I'm not sure if he still posts now.

Master Bates had a contact at the Echo as well.

Probably not, too close to pay day for that to be a factor. They would be comforted by the fact that no matter how sh*t they were they'd just received relatively large sums of money anyway. As Deano and Butters have since said they thought they played well

on Tuesday and they probably did.We just can't score that's all,I would think that the players are more affected by the mounting injuries than any criticism they many get on this or any other forum.

It does seem like that sometimes (articles based on rumours on here) but they can't publish stories with the same abandon that posters on here can, so there are always going to be situations where the rumour is out there, the journo's heard it and is looking into it and in the meantime a poster has heard it too and bunged it straight online.

Regarding whether players read this forum, I can certainly imagine that some do, and some will certainly not like what they read and it might affect their confidence.

The answer to that is simple; don't read it. I'm always hearing about actors or writers or sports-people who simple avoid media coverage about themselves for that very reason. For me, the same rules apple for internet forums and the like.

That was Dan Kerins. He was pretty open about being a journalist in the Saintsforever days from what I can remember.

That was the bloke. I just remeber a rather atagonistic thread on here where he was trying to defend the echo (which is sure fire hiding to nothing around here) and then it became common knowledge who he was and got a bit of a verbal kicking.

A lot of what he said was pretty fair. As you say, on a hiding to nothing with some of the one-eyed poster that frequent this place.

Wonder what the clubs stance would be on a player posting on here. I guess there wouldnt be anything wrong with it as long as they weren't saying anything that puts their employers in a bad light. If any are reading this... go on, out yourself! :)

Ryan Dickson rarely says anything relating to any games on his twitter. Im guessing that its a club policy that if players want to be on social network sites then they avoid talking about their job or the club. The odd time he has mention a match has been because we lost and he says the players are gutted or something.

On the other hand...

...perhaps the players have their own closed forum on a Club Intranet where they discuss the fans and posters on here...

lol

yeah, and talking about all the interest other companies are showing in us and that we will be leaving our jobs soon to work for someone else. Oh and that my Chairman is an evil tyrant and all employees hate him and none of us want to work for our line managers..... oh.
