If nothing else it maintains our bizarre record of being drawn at home wherever possible in every competition since playing Northampton away in the 2010 FA Cup 2nd Round.

Or something like that. We've had something like 14 successive home draws in JPT/League Cup and FA Cup now.

Not Pompey then.

This is actually a nice little earner for Torquay so I'm happy for them to go out to us, the eventual winners.

No, nor any of the other sides that were seeded and we couldn't possibly play, nor any of the teams in the Northern section, etc.

lol@Brum f*cking the draw up by qualifying for europe.

Which they did by winning the Carling Cup, lolz.

Bit harsh on AFC Wimbledon though, having to play bloody horrible Crawley who have the funding of a top four League One side and already had to put up with them dominating the Conference all of last season.

They could have avoided a preliminary round by keeping Fulham (who probably won't get through three qualifying rounds) in the second round, rather than give them a bye as well. We don't normally get an extra European place for the fair play league.

It's also arguable that those two specific clubs should have been in the Prelim., why not a random Southern section draw amongst the unseeded clubs ? No reason to include the Northern section in it, as all the affected sides are Southern.

Still, there's another match for you to go to !

Any geeks got any stats for the amount of home draws in the last few years? I honestly doubt any team has had more than us!!

I've been counting, just going to recheck it, but we're in double figures and given that the probability of us getting even 7 successive home draws is 1/132 and we've had about 14, so I'm not going to bother checking anyone else's !

Nov 2009 : Northampton A in FA Cup R2 was the last away draw.

Taking out the two-legged JPT Area Final v MK and the Final at Wembley in early 2010, Saints' home draws since then :

1 ) Norwich JPT4 Dec 2009

2 ) Luton FAC3 Jan 2010

3 ) Ipswich FAC4 Jan 2010

4 ) Portsmouth FAC5 Feb 2010

5 ) AFC Bournemouth CCup1 Aug 2010

6 ) Bolton CCup2 Aug 2010

7 ) Swindon JPT1 Sep 2010

8 ) Shrewsbury FAC1 Nov 2010

9 ) Cheltenham FAC2 Nov 2010

10) Blackpool FAC3 Jan 2011

11) Man U FAC4 Jan 2011

12) Torquay CCup1 Aug 2011

That includes 7 successive FA Cup home draws !

Add to that 2009/10's home draws against Northampton (CCup1), Birmingham (CCup2), Torquay (JPT2) and Charlton (JPT3) BEFORE the Northampton FAC2 away (which was preceded by Bristol Rovers away in FAC1), plus 2008/9's Man U FAC3 draw which was the last Cup game of the previous season and we've had 17 out of 19 possible home draws since Jan 2009.

Even the two-legged JPT Area Final saw us with the preferred home match in the second leg.

We played Bristol Rovers away in the first round of the FA CUP 2 years ago, the round before we played Naints away.

Quite impressive. I make it roughly a 1 in 3000 chance.

With the hike in prices and considering what a boring draw that is it wouldn't hurt the club to let season tickets holders in for free to this one.

It would when they have to agree the price with Torquay United. Why would Torquay accept Saints season ticket holders getting in for free and them missing out on a cash boost?

Also, why is it "boring"? I like to watch Saints win, they have a good chance to win this tie and progress to the 2nd round.

Fair point re the ticket pricing, hopefully they will have agreed a sensible price. I find it boring as we only played a year or so ago, plenty of other teams we could have drawn against who I would be far more interested in seeing us play.

In any case, the tickets are likely to be very cheap for this game, it may even be the first home game of the season which will boost the attendance.

Nearly 11,000 for the Carling Cup 1st round tie against League Two opposition Northampton in 2009/10. Which is a huge figure for that stage of the competition against a lower league club. 17,000 against Bournemouth a year later in the 1st round, of course boosted because of a "derby" and large numbers of travelling fans.

The Torquay game may well see figures similar to the Northampton game in 2009. 10k or 11k in the League Cup first round against a League Two team is huge.

If true, the odds of that happening are 1 in 16384. Might as well enjoy it while we can: unlikely to happen again in our lifetimes!

What a ****ing **** draw.

What did you expect? Given the seeding and the regionalisation. Actually I like it, Torquay have always been my second club, just a shame they will be knocked out in the 1st round.

I think some people would only think it was a good draw if we were drawn to play ourselves.

I think Wimbledon and Crawley should protest, how can it be fair that they were drawn to play each other, and to have to play before the League season has even started.
