The current board haven't sacked a manager, they just lost one to a bigger club. They shouldn't be judged on what happened in the previous decade, as it had nothing to do with them. Saint_clark Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 "Something is wrong", what exactly? We've had four or five different owners/chairmen in that time (Lowe, Wilde, Crouch, Dulieu, Cortese, Krueger - so 6 actually) what are you suggesting is the overall problem binding all of them? Why not check similar stats for the rest of the Prem teams - or even better, for teams that have had two relegations, two promotions and an administration in that period. angelman Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 so 8 in the last ten years Take off Burley who resigned for the Scotch job, and Redknapp who resigned for being a **** and that's down to 6. Wotte - a new owner came in and replaced him - perfectly understandable. MP - resigning for something bigger and that's down to 4 Pardew was having "problems" with players and their wives. Adkins is Adkins and shouldn't be taken as the yard stick to judge us over the previous 10 years. Yes, his sacking was uncalled for, but the man responsible for hiring and firing him is no longer here.

Matthew Le God Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 hmmm maybe saints inability to keep either manager or long term owners The current board have only lost one manager and he left because a bigger club wanted him. That doesn't mean the club has a problem. The current owner has been with the club for 4 years, with it being in the same family for 5 years. What more do you want from them? my guess is there will shortly be another new owner Based on what? I'd say Katharina Liebherr looks to be enjoying ownership more than ever since Cortese left. She is going to more games and even went to the staff match, not the sign of someone uninterested and looking to sell up after 4 years of ownership. but yes you are right cant pinpoint the blame on any overall problem allthough Lowe was reknown for being a little trigger happy As Rupert Lowe hasn't been chairman since 2009 how is he in any way relevant? farawaysaint Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 (edited) Spurs had 13 in 10 I think they said? Chelsea don't even go there, Man City 14, Villa 9, Sunderland 14, Newcastle 18, Stoke 15, Hull 15, Baggies 22! We are symptomatic of a greater disease frankly. norwaysaint Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 As I pointed out yesterday, no manager has completed two seasons at saints since Dave Jones in 1999. We are an incredibly unstable club as a rule, surely more so than most.
SNSUN Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 Simply, it's easier and a darn sight cheaper to sack the 1 manager than it is to sack the 11-30 footballers that are under performing. Ergo it's the manager that suffers when the form is poor, even if it's not his fault. It's a shame, but when money is so important in the modern game that relegation could spell disaster, the pressure is on Premier League managers to perform consistently successfully. As for our managerial record in recent years, I don't think it's been too bad since the relegation season from the Championship.
adrian lord Posted 28 May, 2014 Share Posted 28 May, 2014 It's got us to 8th in the league, so it can't be all that bad....sack on i say, and we will be in the Champs league.
igsey Posted 29 May, 2014 Share Posted 29 May, 2014 Isn't "MR X" one of Glasgow's logins? Think it must be. Why don't we look at it as two managers in three and a half years, one of which resigned for a better offer? What's that, four wins in 16 games or something? I don't think form guides and managers work too well, Glasgow.

Bordeaux Posted 29 May, 2014 Share Posted 29 May, 2014 A quote I like to drag out on occasions like this - from Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch, published in 1992: "The following Saturday we were playing Second Division Sunderland in the FA Cup semi-final, and we lost that too. The two defeats prompted Bertie Mee to break the whole team up, but he never got a new one together again, and three years later he was gone." Read it again! As recently as 1992, a writer found it remarkable that a manager got sacked "only" three years after failing! Make of that what you will!
aintforever Posted 29 May, 2014 Share Posted 29 May, 2014 Why is having a high turnaround of managers seen as a negative thing? We are at our best position for years.
