Arturo Lupoli

Can someone a lot more in the know than me tell us how good/bad/indifferent this news is?

Depends. All I know about Lupoli is he showed a massive amount of potential as a youngster and has been liked by fans at all his clubs, but not highly rated by the managers.

IMO he sounds like the kind of player who will do very well if playing under the right manager - but I don't really have confidence in JP to get him motivated.

Sounds like continued speculation rather than fact at present.

He was unhappy about not starting regularly for Norwich on a season long loan. Norwich have sacked their Manager so all change.

Why would he come here on loan? Unless of course we guarantee him a regular start and we know the dangers of that.

Good news if true. Hopefully it doesn't mean we're looking to move Saga on though.

If true I'd say it almost certainly means we will be looking to move Saga on. Not sure whether that's a risk worth taking. Saga's been a low scoring striker for a while now so if Lupoli scores a few he'll be of more value to us.

Depends on what sort of player he is. He needs to be able to hold the ball up a bit. Doesn't sound like he's prolific but then prolific costs money that we haven't got. He also needs to be semi-decent in the air as Holmes needs a target. Any pace is also welcome!

Huckerby was saying that Roeder seemed to hold grudges against players he argued with so perhaps Lupoli was in that group at Norwich and when Norwich appoint a new manager, probably Boothroyd, they'll want their own loan signings at least.

Don't forget Jamie White's now injured.

He's a midget but really quick with an eye for goal. Typical Arsenal player, really skillfull and good on the ball. I think he's played from the right so maybe we're looking at him to play right wing. Basically he's the opposite to what you say we need, he's a very good player just not a target man type.

I looked on a Norwich forum when I first saw we where linked and there where a few threads who where ****ed with Roeder for not picking him in the side, apparently they where chanting his name while he was on the bench but Roeder was too stubborn to bring him on.

He ticks all the boxes Rupert would look for as well. Young, loads of talent which he hasn't lived up to and available on the cheap.

Thanks Andy and in fact a couple of Norwich supporting mates have said the same things about him. He sounds like a good player although I'm still unsure of how he's with us as I thought he was on a season-long loan at Carrow. Cureton has been recalled as expected. I think this may be Saga off as although Saga holds it up a bit more, he's not exactly a giant either. I'd play him up front rather than on the wing, we've already tried BWP there and not a success. BWP moving on would be preferable to Saga but not many takers for BWP! If we are starting Lupoli, we cannot use that type of player as a lone striker, McG for his faults must be alongside him and not in a poxy withdrawn role.

Indeed it does seem a strange signing if we're going to continue playing one upfront. That's why I thought we might play him right wing, I can't see McGoldrick being dropped and Saga if he's here would have to be playing as well.

Still i'd rather Lupoli was playing for us than a relegation rival Norwich, just not sure how he would fit in.

Yes, it wil be interesting. Hopefully he's registered in time for Saturday. Ideally I'd like to see Saga kept but is Lallana anywhere near fit again? JP has set some interesting selection choices up. It will be interesting if Lupoli can play at Carrow - if Fiorentina have arranged the loan he may be able to - and it boils down to Cureton V Lupoli.

BWP has not played as striker once this season. He is a winger now.

He could still be deployed as one though, even though IMO he's never looked good as a striker for us unless it was as a sub! Hopefully Saga will be staying but that probably depends on offloading Skacel at the very least. MB is right to point out Jamie White's injury. Perhaps JP will play the David Moyes formation - 4-6-0!

Seems to me like we've been playing that for ages!

McGoldrick and Lallana spend the majority of the game ****ing around in midfield.

I've shouted in frustration "get in the bloody box" quite a few times at games I must admit! The trouble is that at home, we are not going to get the space to play through teams - unless it's a side with a similar set up (but better players) like Reading. Sometimes you need someone to hold it up and bring Lallana etc into it and it sounds like Lupoli with his pace would play well off some knock-downs and a physical presence. Pity Euell is so awful and on £14k a week as he could have been the answer.

sounds good to me....................

Lupoli moved to Derby County on a season-long loan on August 18, 2006, and debuted for Derby in the 0-0 draw at home to Norwich City the following day. He then got a brace against Colchester United in a game which Derby lost 4-3. On January 6, 2007, Lupoli scored Derby County's first hat-trick for over a decade in a 3-1 victory third round FA Cup tie against Wrexham.

Lupoli was linked with a transfer to either of the two Milan based football giants; A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. However, Pierpaolo Marino, General Manager of SSC Napoli, announced he had Lupoli's word he'd come to Napoli when his contract with Arsenal had expired, since it was his dream to play for his home city club.[2] Despite this, on February 26, 2007, Lupoli signed a pre-contract with Fiorentina. Lupoli stressed, however, that he would do his absolute best for Derby for the remainder of the season, and in his first match for Derby after confirming the Fiorentina move, scored a goal and provided an assist

sorry if this is one of the links above but thought would paste it, Norwich site;

Goal.com are reporting; news that we could well do without, right now and one I sincerely hopes doesn't happen.

Lupoli could be on his way To Southampton.

It is likely that Fiorentina will use the transfer window to benefit from all the requests for Lupoli, and it now seems that Southampton may soon be announcing his arrival, as Lupoli's agents are meeting with delegates from the Saints this afternoon, according to Firenzeviola.it.

Lupoli may be sold to the English south coast club before the transfer window closes, as it is unlikely that he will return to the Viola.

Would be a decent signing if true, although I can't see him working well in the lone striker role.

Whilst I've been impressed by him during the handful of times I've seen him play, he doesn't strike me as someone that holds up the ball.

Will be interesting to see what comes of this and if it is true, how Poortvliet aims to use him in the 'Dutch formation'.
