badgerx16 Posted August 11 Posted August 11 (edited) The BBC spouting nonsense and failing basic general knowledge. In this story https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4g034yx4gjo they state that Captain Scott discovered the South Pole. He may have been one of the first Britons to get there, but Norwegian Roald Amundsen's expedition beat Scott to the pole. Edit: they have now changed the story to say Scott was "one of the first to reach the pole". Edited August 11 by badgerx16 1

Sheaf Saint Posted August 14 Posted August 14 EV chargers that take a £40 pre-authorisation off your payment card that then shows as a pending transaction on your account for nearly a week afterwards. Why? Petrol stations don't do this when you pay at the pump so why do EV chargers need to do it? I'm away from home this week and have been using the charger at the holiday park every day, and I've currently got about £150 'pending' on my current account as a result.

Petrol stations generally take £100 don't they? It's usually back pretty swiftly though. 1

rallyboy Posted Tuesday at 10:03 Posted Tuesday at 10:03 They're still at it - the dumbfucks who roll up late and can't find their seats in stadiums. Up and down, back and forth, they wander all bewildered, staring at the row numbers, then back at their phones, and it's become particularly bad at cricket. It's just the fucking alphabet and numbers, and if you cannot grasp a simple seating concept that has worked since the first slave took on a lion, perhaps a sport that is very much based on numbers of runs and overs, may not be for you. 4

I can't remember where it was, but I was sat in seat B008 once. Was a good day.

I don’t know how the crowds compare to T20 as never been or intend to go The Hundred. I noticed the other day the BBC didn’t even have the regions so Braves v Dragons. Even more like pantomime although now include again. Saves me writing to Points of View

Lighthouse Posted Wednesday at 18:15 Posted Wednesday at 18:15 Smart motorways which seem to just pick random speed limits for no reason. I was coming around the M25 last night - 50 40 60 40 40 50 60 40 50 and not so much as a traffic cone or a single car on the hard shoulder or anywhere else. 1

It’s frustrating I know, especially when you don’t see roadworks/an accident. But someone explained to me once the idea behind it and it makes it slightly more bearable. It’s all about cameras feeding to a system where it sees buildups and adjusts the flow of traffic, sometimes many miles before, to try and even the flow and get a greater number of cars through than would happen if they all piled into the build up at the national speed limit. Although that person had no explanation when I said I’ve seen that many times on the M25 and other motorways at 0200 when going to/from work.

I was involved in electronic motorway displays some thirty years ago and the DOT tried to explain the principle to me then. For it to work there needs to be constant monitoring of the traffic flows. And there isn't. Also the settings are too coarse. It's quite z sudden jump from 50 to 40 and there are no intermediate limits at 45 or 55, say.
Convict Colony Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Self scanning each item before you put it in your trolley etc in supermarkets, slows down stupid people who already stare at milk like they've just seen it for the 1st time.
