saint1977 Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick doesn't know what he's talking about. Hoddle is really enjoying his venture in Spain and I wouldn't touch that job with a barge pole. I used to think Nick Illingsworth had a backbone, drop the neutral stuff Nick and get back to demonstrating with your fellow fans to get rid of Wilde, Lowe, Askham et al. If you can't, do the honourable thing and step down as a fans' spokesperson for someone who will stand up for us.

If you can't, do the honourable thing and step down as a fans' spokesperson for someone who will stand up for us. If he actually said that about Hoddle then he has just made SFC even more of a laughing stock than it is already. Picture the scene....Liverpool or Man Utd supporter, sitting at home eating breakfast, watching Sky Sports news. Some fella comes on talking about SFC, second off bottom of CCC, and mentions he wouldnt be surprised if Hoddle came back !!! Former England manager, going to a club that is a dead duck with a Chairman who maybe be mentally unstable ? Cornflakes go flying as Liverppol/Man Utd supporter bursts out laughing at the inflated ideas this guy has about a once decent club that is now bordering on administration ! Brilliant Nick ! He said 1) fans blamed lowe for our current situation 2) he felt that wotte wouldnt be around log term and thought we had things going on in the background 3) he had a feeling that hoddle could be lined up as it would appeal to lowes sense of humour 4) fans wouldnt be in a position to grumble this time if hoddle was appointed as "we are sinking ship and cant really be too choosey which ship rescues us" . Dalek2003 Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Hoddle would be a fantastic appointment. Even if relegated he would be able to work with our young players, he knows the English system, he is tactically astute. Hoddle has the experience of the lower leagues when at Swindon, and at the highest level including international. Hoddle has plenty of contacts for loan players needed to get the balnace. It all fits, Hoddle our new manager. A new dawn for SFC

So would I TDD but let's be honest, there's more chance of Roman Abramovich saying "I'm bored of Chelsea, I need somewhere to park my yacht and I'll buy SFC whilst I'm there and put in £500m with no strings". Neither will happen. Either we can get a last ditch buyer and Lowe and Wilde take a big loss on their shares or we go into a VA and those two try to pick it up for peanuts. Look at Wotte's record, it's littered with relegation, even an administration, and it doesn't even look as if he'll really be in charge.

Don't dispute that, which made the Doncaster performance with our "players" bottling 50/50s and not giving a toss all the more galling. Still, a lot of them are at an impressionable age so with influences like that in the dressing room, I'm not surprised they are not focused. JP wasn't the right man for the scenario but I think he gave them a least a little focus. Now this other guy - not Wotte - can really run the show and I predict that we won't win another game this season. JP is well out of the club. Wilde and Lowe have such a poor reputation that I don't think a half-decent manager would touch the job now.

SaintRobbie Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Just listened to Nick's interview. I think Nick did very well. I particularly liked the Sky presenters final comment; 'I feel your pain'. Nick basically said that whilst others should share alot of the blame for finances Rupert Lowe is by far the worst of the lot, fans blame him. He talked of Lowe's ego possibly driving him back to SMS. He plucked out Hoddle as a man being discussed as he expects the board will not stick with Wotte despite the fact that Wotte may have a better record than JP. On Hoddle he said Lowe would possibly bring him back due to Lowe's 'sense of humour'... i.e. he implied that he would do it to spite the fans after they stopped him reinstating Hoddle last time. Nick then went on to say that at the moment we'd take just about anyone. Well done Nick. I know I am a critic of you, but I thought you came over well. I would say one more thing... Any fan who gets an opportunity to tell the world what is really happening at SMS under Lowe should also tell the world we would welcome a buyer with open arms. It is a simple message, costs nothing and who knows...may be someone will be watching.

I still think there is no chance of Hoddle returning but it's good to hear the truth from Nick - Lowe's financial mismanagement has been just as culpable as Wilde's and Hone's despite excuses from a very small band of Lowe supporters. Wilde and Lowe are on very borrowed time, a total boycott for the Swansea game and a healthy turnout for the march might even be enough to make Wilde and Askham **** their pants. dubai_phil Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Yawn... Glenn has raised significant capital for his Academy from an investment fund. They will have him tied to a Key Person contract. If Hoddle was to leave his venture then the investors would lose the branding that they have invested in. Ergo, they will want their money back. Seeing as the sums involved are (in all likelihood) to be in the order of US$20 million, could somebody kindly explain how we can expect to pay that sort of compensation? Why would he risk his reputation with his Academy project with us? there is simply NO business benefit for him. It is NOT as if he is an unemployed manager, he is somebody with a damned good idea to develop players for football. And on TOP of that he has some problems over the Premier League player ownership rules which he has to address. Nice idea him coming back, but next tree to bark up please IMHO of course
SaintRobbie Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 I dont go with this Hoddle idea. I think Nick was making a point about Lowe's arrogance and spitefulness with regards to the fans rather than genuinely suggesting he was coming. I may be wrong. Yes, Hoddle would be better than we have now, but there are others. The problem with Hoddle is: 1. He's hated by a large number of fans, so would be just as divisive. Many - who have never forgiven him for deserting - would will him on to fail. We have an opportunity for unity now. 2. He'll be seen as a Lowe stooge, like JP was. That sets him up for failure. 3. I am led to believe that it is a myth that Hoddle and Lowe are great friends. Finally, why would Hoddle seriously want to come back to SMS right now? He knows many of the fans hate him. He doesnt need to leave the club again as a failure.
Pip Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Don't you think it's more likely that we're talking about Hoddle's No. 2 John Gorman? Now that would appeal to Lowe's sense of humour!

Dalek2003 Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 I think a SMALL minority of vocal fans are the very ones who fear Hoddle's return. Eddie Lizzard Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 I think that the only way Hoddle would return would be as a part of a takeover.
