Cost of Living

It’s staggering how little reaction we are currently seeing on social media or out in society in general regarding fuel poverty. Take a knee against racism and it kicks off, people with brown skins rape white girls and it kicks off, loose several football matches on the trot and it all kicks off, make a “woke” observation and it kicks off, talk about trans issues and it kicks off, mention the heatwave and it kicks off…you get the drift. Yet we are staring at an absolute disaster for many homes come winter and anyone would think that it is just a fantasy and as soon as we have a new PM it will just go away. One of the usual suspects on here once said “socialism is dangerous” (I am sure we all agree that the NHS and the Welfare State has done nothing but harm to our society). Now we have energy companies making billions of $ of profit for doing nothing and not a mention about capitalism being remotely “dangerous” from those of a right wing disposition. The only person making any kind of sense and showing any kind of concern in politics is Gordon Brown. Our present PM has totally washed his hands of it all. No daily COBRA meetings about what to do so that we are ready to deal with the situation once the summer is over. The two incompetents fighting it out to lead us into the biggest winter of discontent in my lifetime look clueless and are just throwing out red meat in exchange for votes. Maybe no one wants to think about the effects of hypothermia when we are in the middle of a heat wave, but in a few short months time the shit  is going to hit the fan big time. If, by some miracle, Corbyn had actually been elected PM you can imagine the kicking the right wing media would be giving him at the moment. Yet here we are, a few months away from people who never thought they would be in a situation like this, having to decide between heating and eating. We are going to struggle this winter. We have already made significant changes to our budgets. My wife recently had a small pay rise which has already been completely wiped out by cost of living rises before it hit her bank balance. Why aren’t the masses kicking off? People can find the energy to boo footballers from taking a stand against racism but don’t seem to give a shit about the millions of people who will struggle through the next winter and whose bank accounts will be emptied. They can’t all be shareholders in energy companies surely? Perhaps it really is just a bad dream?

a post with paragraphs is much easier to read pal.

whats staggering is you've missed them all. there have been loads of stuff about it on social media and it's been all over morning TV all week, an online campagn with over hundred thousand members and so on, you're just chosing not to see it or dont want to see it try and make point about racism and push your agenda again. So pathetic but completely predicatable from you Soggy.

Posting about it on here of course, much like how he's trying to end racism in the same way.

I always have a little chuckle to myself whenever the subject of money comes up with Soggy, whislt i agree that the government needs to pull their fingers out asap, this is the guy that blamed Boris Johnson because he had a crap credit rating and couldn't get another loan to add to his mounting pile of debt 🤣

The whole system couldn’t be more broken. The price cap is an utter con and should be called a profit cap. Many middle class families are going to struggle, let alone the worse off in society. We’ve also got the BoE raising interest rates due to inflation that is out of control due to supply chain issues and essential fuel price increases, NOT because people are spending in a booming economy.

Talking of credit ratings  - what a load of horse shit. I have so many credit cards with pretty much nothing on them. Spend on them they say and don’t pay them off to increase my rating.  Yeah like sensible move that. So credit rating not so much how much risk you offer, more how much they want to lend to me. And as it happens I couldn’t give a flying fuck what my rating is

Don’t think you can say not in the news, it very much is. What is not talked about so much is how impotent this govt is. Pictures of Johnson, Kwarteng and Zahawi in meeting with energy bosses today.  Wonder what fuckwit questions were asked?  ‘So is electricity magic power?’ ‘Could we get gas from cows?’

What is comical and ironic is Daily Mail blaming Bank of England governor for being asleep at the wheel. Although interest rates have been stupidly low for so long given many false sense of security. If it cools the housing market it will be no bad thing

I do agree with you it's a loads of bollocks, you could be a billionaire with no credit at all and they'd consider you a bad risk because you dont have any. I've got 5 credit cards and mortgage. I use one credit card for work stuff and pay it off in full every month, the other for holidays and pay that back over about 6 months and another for balance transfers and use the zero 0% to buy stuff on the other two and transfer over. It was more the amusement that Sog admitted he had loads of debt and couldn't get another loan but rather than taking it on the chin for not living within his means he blamed it all on on the tories

It is a 90% year-on-year increase and marks the biggest earnings for the world's largest energy exporter since its public listing three years ago.

Although I can probably guarantee my pension provider doesn't have shares in ANY of these companies!

Of course you can. I am voting against the party who have caused economic hardship for most of the population for over 10 years for starters. We are also tightening our belts and not spending what we used to of our disposable income in places like our local and various cafes. This will, of course, effect many local businesses as their income will fall, but hey ho. That’s capitalism for you.

So I have a question for you. What have YOU done about racism and other important issues of the day, other than change your avatar to one poking fun at it?

I have been taking the knee every morning.  This offers a fix for so many issues from 200 years ago.  Now those issues are all but fixed, I may start gluing myself to the street in an effort to stop/reverse global warming.

hi Mohammed (I’m assume that’s your name what with you being a Muslim)

I just wanted to let you know that Boris Johnson has taken all my money and left me in a position where I can no longer afford to come and let you cut my hair. I just wanted to let you know that despite you being Asian and a Muslim you’re doing great and not letting any of that prevent you from running a moderately successful small local business. Ignore the racists who go to other barbers, they will soon see the error of their ways. I am sure there are many other middle class white people like me who will carry on supporting your efforts so keep going. You’re a great example to others who use their race and religion as an excuse not to follow their dream and have never let this get in the way of your dream to support your family

keep going. Maybe inshalla when labour finally gain power we will meet again

Come now Batman, we all know that you spend your days trawling the internet trying to find material that shows that racism doesn’t exist or tries to undermine anything that opposes it . If you are glued to anything it is to your keyboard and to Twitter. Someone who has spent years knocking Johnny Foreigner on a football foreign doesn’t turn into a “snowflake” overnight.

Anyway, whilst I usually avoid anything by Owen Jones like the plague, he addresses the idea of civil unrest over the energy prices and cost of living hike  here. You might want to avert your eyes Batman. Brits took to the streets over the Poll tax…

You can feel the civil unrest being whipped up by the left. I wonder if Putin and his lackies have been subtlety been turning up the heat and hoping to cause urest in our society. The Unions always have had ties to Russia, it wouldnt take much persuasion  for those people to cause mayhem.

The price of food, oil and gas is down to the world market. How can the nation now subsidise this, anyone who knows basic budgeting would know that.

Just to privatise the energy companies would cost billions, ohh, and when you have, dont forget the billions that will have to be given to the pensioners to supplement their losses as their pensions are wrapped up in companies that provide profits for their pensions.

The West needs the Ukraine war to come to an end soonest, so that energy prices stabilise, and the markets settle back again.  Putin is playing the long game and knows we are soft and cant face hardship. Let's hope that there isn't a really cold winter as that can only make the worlds energy prices reach even higher levels

In the meantime, thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants are pouring into the country daily, and those in power do nothing.

Spending £500 a month on energy is sure worth it all, yes?

I think some people will be thinking they have fuck all to lose if working all week for no creature comforts. Inflation is a killer in any economy but you want to blame the unions with Russian links for whipping up unrest.

Western world needs some sort of reset IMO in terms of constant need for consumerism to ensure economic survival. And I say that from a very privileged position myself in terms of relative wealth but many others won’t have that luxury.

Although as you say Putin knows we are weak and don’t have resilience to make sacrifices like not having a cosy warm house in winter. But he is ultimately fucking Russia up as well

Good job the banks didn’t give out really low interest fixed rate mortgages that were 5x people’s salary and will all be ending in the next few years.

If the cost of energy isn’t enough to cause civil unrest, repossession of homes might do it.
