As soon as women's football is on here come the usual suspects with the usual remarks. Women's football is women's football and men's football is men's football and never the twain shall meet. Vive la difference.

I agree. As long as the media don't try to equate the two or anything like that then I'm more than happy to celebrate the two separate things.

which is exactly the point i've making by the usual suspects dont seem to be able to understand. Unless you're frothing at the gash about then you're being negative and making the usual remarks 😂

I do understand a certain amount of piggybacking off the wildly popular men's game. Smart marketing is to have a link in some way because much of the interest will come from the historic value placed in the men's game so your local team, the England national team and all their symbols etc. I can support all that, it's just an irritant when people don't make the distinction or seem to think they're the same thing when they're not.

If the women's football happens to be on I can find myself having a watch and taking an interest and it will provide me with some entertainment if I see the England women's team win a tournament. It is entirely separate though and I think that's where a lot of the resentment comes from.

Anyone who is resentful because women's football is associated with men's football needs therapy.

Who says they're the same thing? Whenever I see coverage it is always clearly labelled as WSL or whatever.

Mentioned in the comments I was replying to.

I dont think a single person is resentful. The issues are self inflicted by the promotion of it. As has been mentioned on this thread, the level of womens football is miles below that of mens and you'd have to be an absolute idiot to suggest otherwise. Yet as also mention on this thread we have seen Ellen White listed alongside Harry Kane and Rooney as Englands top all time scorer, that is absolutely ridiculous and does the womens game no favours

Like womens athletics and tennis keep it seperate and enjoy it for what it is. The problem is there are certain people that take it very personally if anyone dares to suggest this.

Maybe resentment is the wrong word. I can see why people get frustrated when it's continually equated as being the same thing.

News channels often do it, stats are equated together (England's top goalscorer frequently includes the women, record wins etc) loads of times I've clicked on a link showing for example man city playing only to realise it was women's football and had failed to be labelled as such. Female pundits are invited on to talk about using their experience to tell us how male players will be feeling when it's not remotely comparable. One smaller bugbear for me is that sky sports live score centre have put the women's tables next to the Premier league one and above all other men's leagues so I have to continually scroll past it to get to the men's scores that I actually want to view.

Like I said it's not some high crime but I can see why it causes a build up of irritation over time.

Do people get irritated by the promotion of other sports they don't like or watch?

Stop using Sky Sports Live Score Centre if it bugs you so much, there's plenty of apps / places to get men's football results.

I cannot fathom people that go out of their way to moan so much about things they could easily avoid.

It’s either the same sport, or it isn’t.

Either way it’s nonsense. Dave from The Dog & Duck wouldn’t get far as co commentator & John McEnroe wouldn’t be employed as a Rugby league expert. They only get the gig because they’re chicks, an incredibly patronising and sexist reason.

I’d imagine If you don’t like golf, you’d be pretty annoyed if Nick Faldo was analysing Ben Stokes poor shot at Lords. Especially, when there’s literally thousands of cricketers better qualified to do so.

Yes I suppose I could do that but I've been using it for years and am a creature of habit so it was an unnecessary thing to change. Like I said though that's a very minor personal irritation but there's a few there so I can see why people get a bit annoyed about the pushing of certain agendas.

Yeah, if you have serious issues

There's a thread on one of the forums here called something like small things that irritate you and it's packed full of little annoyances like that. I assume you think that every person on there has serious issues too? Like I said, it's not going to change my life either way but given the choice I'd rather things like that didn't happen.

It's funny coming from aintforever, whenever there is a chance to show what a lovely person you are it's a race between him and a couple of other serial virtue signallers to be the first to post how great it all is. One might suggest people doing this might also have serious issues.

I know not the point you are making but both athletics and tennis are integrated so you buy a ticket at Wimbledon you get to watch and enjoy both, same at athletic events. I am broadly with you the marketing is OTT and think it grates with some because it is relatively new to an established men’s game.

Bit like rugby for me - will watch Six Nations and World Cup but never going to be interested in watching a Harlequins league game.

All you’ve done is claim the usual suspects making the usual comments. Which comments are you referring to? What’s the implication you’re making by your claim? What counter points do you have against the “usual remarks”?

make a case before resting it. All you’ve done is make a brash statement

A late header gives Italy the win over Norway. There were a fair number of touches, before the cross for the goal.

But the passage of play started after the ref had stopped the game, with Norway about to go over half way, in some space. The reason was because an Italy player was on the end of a fair challenge, that didn't involve a head injury, and wasn't serious.

Norway got the drop ball, but Italy had repositioned, eventually leading to the goal.

Lots of drama in the game, including a missed Norway penalty. But a harsh way of conceding the winner.

It was a good game with quite a lot of drama. Think the most mis-matched quarter final will be Spain Switzerland, but otherwise it is a very good tournament so far in terms of the matchups. Makes me realise how good a proper 16 team tournament is, like the early 2000's Euros where every game felt like a big deal

yep, too many teams makes a lot of the game pointless. Remember 1988 when the Euros was only 8 teams? England lost every game in a group with Russia, Netherlands and Ireland.

I'll watch England v Sweden tonight and of course want them to win, dont know much about the Sweden team but youd expect England to go through.

The smaller size has been really good. England losing their first put pressure on the other games, and you can see the closeness of it in other groups.

I have seen England leave just the sort of gaps that Sweden exploited in their group games. But will they be able to do that against England's really varied attack? Looking forward to it.

I was born after 88 so I'll take your word for that.

Sweden have a couple of good players and can be a force on their day. Bizarrely their captain was plying her trade in the Championship last year for London City but was comfortably a level above nearly everyone else in the leauge.

Sweden better team so far but ref has given England nothing. Every 50/50 gone to Sweden so far which is giving them quite an advantage so far

Guys I'll be honest I once watched a woman's game like 4 years ago or something to see what the fuss about as it was a tournament (think euros) and was left underwhelmed, I tried for 45mins.

Honestly the level of quality paled in comparison to mens football and made me appreciate the skill level of even our players more.

No hate am sure there is enjoyment but if you've been flying business you can't get much enjoyment from economy.

Good luck to them but I've heard we've been shit in the warm ups to this tournament so losing doesn't seem a shock.

Good point. Probably spoken about during a discussion on climate change and the suffering experienced during a male pregnancy

Fair point, should have said no posts containing sly digs.
