Which criteria are you using to determine that the Scottish Premier League is a 'higher level' than the English Premier League?

The criteria called did they play in a Europa league game and then did we?

So does a team from the Lichtenstein top flight.

is this aimed at me? Well, you were chief fawning fan boy 😁 😂 When I said he’ll manage at a higher level than us and his next job was at Rangers?

I think if you’re going to try to be funny and clever you should probably remember your own predictions on here first btw. Do you want me to get them up again? 😂 If you want to, couldn't care less  🥱

Mad this thread still gets bumps btw. Keeps the flame alive for you sweetheart

Clutching at straws there.

Martin had the opportunity to manage us in the Premier League.  He had the opportunity to take us to the heady heights of the Europa League.  He failed.  Miserably.

The Europa League games for Rangers were despite Martin, not because of him.  Literally any manager they chose to manage the team at the start of last season would have been 'managing in a Europa League game'.  Any manager.  Even Wayne Rooney had they chosen him.

Yes, but they chose Russel Martin not Wayne Rooney presumably because they thought he was better? 😂

We're definitely not as good as Derry City, for sure... ;)

Yep, but their judgement about managers turned out as well as yours..

We were promoted in spite of him not because

Not as funny as your constant defending of Martin, they will never be surpassed with anything funnier...

Do we really want to talk about managerial judgement? Are you going to watch us next season or go into hiding again and only pipe up when we drop points like last season?

Looks like they, and many other people ;) were wrong about that.

Wrong that Martin is better than Rooney? Okay.

If Eckert gets us promoted and you try and claim we’ve done it inspite of a manger again that’ll run it close.

Except here. But that’s a minor detail I suppose.

Also don’t change your opinion on Eckert. Your much more relevant when sticking to your stupidity.

FWIW I think much of the hate RM gets on here is unwarranted but to argue that he didn't fail with us is ridiculous. Sure, he did his job and got us promoted but 13 defeats from 16 games is failure, whether you like it or not.

Yeah that’s fair. Not denying the PL was a total failure. But I’d argue just as much as the promotion wasn’t down to him solely neither was the relegation.

I'd argue that Martin did make a difference in those early Rangers Europa games. There was RussBall on show as his hastily put together side progressed.

It's one of the big reasons they brought him in. Even so, those games were really early on.

Plenty of Scottish sides are ignominiously dumped out of European competition. Martin offered a way of having a system that operated against technically better sides, through his possession.

They did get hammered by Brugge. They were outclassed, went down to 10 men and imploded. Plenty of player errors to look at, along with Martin.

Disclaimer: The above should in no way be perceived as an endorsement of Martin's PL season with us.

Anyone who suggests he's solely at fault for the relegation is being myopic - I think recruitment in the premier league clearly wasn't good enough so he was left with a squad not up to the level but his refusal to adapt his style of play in line with the reality that we were clearly underdogs in the division was a major factor in relegation.

All in all I think he's a nice bloke (unpopular opinion round these parts i know) and a decent enough manager who's dogmatism played a major part in his, and our, downfall and will restrict him from managing at the highest level.

My biggest complaint with Martin wasn't that his football was shit, or that he lost more games than any manager in our histroy in the top flight, or that we conceded more goals than any other season in our history in the top flight, or that we finished on the lowest points total ever in history, or that he was arrogant and refused to change his style despite the fact it was catastrophically awful to do in the top flight.

No, none of them. My biggest compliant is his style of football sapped all and every enjoyment out of the game, even when we won it was akin to watching paint dry, turgid, slow awful stuff, it made jim magilton look like maradonna

But, it was the right way to play. Russell kept telling us. And would this face lie to you? 🤢

Yeah it’s this kind of attitude that baffles me the most and was why I was mocked on here for defending him because the amount of goals we scored that season was very enjoyable to me as was the success we had.

This season the biggest and wealthiest club in the third division is going to get promoted.

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing that presented by some as the greatest coaching achievement in football management history.

Wimbledon's long ball football meant they scored lots of goals it baffles me that people don't find it enjoyable to watch long ball football?

Nobody could succeed with the players he had. The ones he and Rasmus sat down and picked that summer who we still can't shift.

You're never going to succeed in any field if nothing is ever your fault and the bad feeling I have for him is for the constant gaslighting as much for the high risk no reward football and creating a culture at our club we're still in the process of shifting.

Who can forget his anger at the fans for cheering a long clearance or telling us we'd see his system was working if we understood football like he did.

This page is very much like teenagers screaming at each other saying “mines better than yours”.

😂😂

Whoever the Russell Martin lover is, quite simply he isn’t going to sleep with you.
It’s time to move on. It’s the equivalent of one half of the relationship trying to proclaim there’s still some good there.

We got promoted with him. Fair play.
But for a club of our size and the squad we had we should’ve been in the top two.
His tendencies to not adapt nearly cost us promotion, and ultimately he didn’t change or adapt for the Premier League despite ample warning signs.
Sure the club didn’t help with average signings, but then again you need to help yourself and quite simply he didn’t.

He then did his interview claiming he’d learnt a lot and had changed etc, he went to Rangers and was found out within a couple of months.

I’m sure he’ll get promoted this season with Leicester, but quite simply I don’t see that league as much of a challenge for him or them.
This season won’t be a test for him, next season will.

I think they'll struggle to start with and he'll be out the door sharpish.
