Cabrone Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Smart move by Wolves to get a good champ striker before they go down, we should be asking for more than 7M though. 4
Matthew Le God Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago 3 minutes ago, Baird of the land said: 'all being well', words to fill us with confidence What about the replacement for Archer/Downs? We play a one striker system so don't really need a replacement for 4th choice Downs. Another striker only needed if Archer actually goes, but his move might be contingent on Armstrong staying/leaving.

But consider Ross Stewart gets injured long term again. We'd have potentially just one of Archer or Armstrong plus the new signing. Another injury and we're down to deploying youth players again. A lot depends on the quality and fitness of this new signing. Feels like a gamble. I think we need a credible fourth option and so did the club in the summer. 1

If he wants out and that's all teams are offering, there is not much the club can do, but it doesn't exactly provide a huge war chest to find a replacement.
Baz Fl Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago If we end up with Arma gone and keeping Archer while not bringing in a proper #9 then SR are really taking the piss and not even pretending to be serious about our club
goodymatt Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago So we are likely to keep Archer and bring in a replacement for Arma? 1

It isn't a disastrous fee for a 28-year-old with only 1 year left on his contract. Especially one who is very good in the Championship but out of his depth in the Premier League. Plus it isn't the only money they have. They received a lot of cash in the summer some may be ready for this window, plus have sold Edwards, will get a loan fee for Aribo and a fee for Edozie if he goes. 5

If archer departed, the club might think stewart, armstrng and oyekunle would be enough until the summer. if armstrong goes too, then the will sign someone (perhaps on loan), surely?

The usual journalists were saying we’d only let Downs go if we had a replacement lined up. Now it needs to be also Arma going and maybe Archer to get one in? This doesn’t feel well planned and we can only hope we get someone in tomorrow that is a pleasant surprise.

skintsaint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago To be fair to AA, he did scored twice as many goals in the PL last season as Larsen has this season so far 😅

Absolutely, we spent a similar-ish fee on Scienza, so if they pull off a signing like him as a replacement rather than another Damion Downs, we come out of the window stronger.

Meh. not sure i have much faith in the usual journalists and having four strikers for one position meant there was little need for a downs replacement (from a bodies in the building point of view). you might be right about unplanned, but the club is reacting to offers made for its players - they dotn know if they will come in. it sounds like there have been talks/offers a while back for archer/aA, so we will have been working on our own moves the last week or more. I wonder who we will sign...there has to be someone, right? 1
Lee On Solent Saint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago £10m would be about right. Fuck the add ons off the deal.

Tbf they are obviously buying him with next season in mind. There's no way they're staying up, so they're planning for the Championship, and on paper buying Armstrong doesn't look a bad place to start. With Armstrong's championship goalscoring record, £43m burning a hole in their pocket and only one day left for them to do a deal though, I still think £7m + add-ons is light. We should be pulling their pants down a bit more in the way other clubs have with us when we've shown up desperate at the end of January. Edited 7 hours ago by Midfield_General 5

Archer has done little for us. Its time to loan him out. 3

SouSaint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Right so how many career goals is this replacement going to have then? I'll bet less than 20.

Stewart may get injured again, but I'm hopeful he can get a run of games

AA stiffles our foward play as a number 9, we need a big physical striker to hold up the ball and to get at the end of scienza and fellows crosses. having a midget AA doesn’t help us with that. 1
S-Clarke Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Up to 48m for Larson is just crazy, he really isn't that good. But equally getting £35m for Mateta is also crazy. Player valuations at the top level aren't reflectors of ability anymore you'd have to say. 2

I think that's the driver here to be honest, he's clearly made it obvious that he wants out and we've bent our valuation slightly to accommodate that. Like you say, we don't want a bad smell hanging around. He hasn't scored in 11 or 12. But to make this positive we have to sign a proper striker, this is now our opportunity and window to do that. A loan with an option, or even invest straight away in a signing for the future in mind. Pertez, Leo, Jander were all left field picks and they have been reasonable well received - they need to get the striker one as bang on now. What concerns me is that we have had zero links....nothing. Edited 7 hours ago by S-Clarke 4

If we let Archer and AA leave we need to buy a striker and loan another one.

I think his form this season has been more of an indication of how sh*t Wolves are personally.
