You can’t get many songs going in Wembley because of the acoustics and the size of it. It’s why ‘yellows’ and OWTS work. Because they’re simple and can get the whole crowd involved. 
 

As for that city forum.. fucking nonsense. Both sets of fans mixed everywhere and there was barely any trouble. You’re always going to get some knobheads at a big game.

Yeah like all clubs we've all got our tossers sadly. But that just a reflection of society. 

All I saw was both sets of fans being pretty respectful, with some good banter between them.  

I was shocked how bad they were though, I always had good respect for their fans as they've always been pretty humble and respectful, whilst also being pretty loud "proper" fans. But it was strange fromthem Saturday, generally heard them once or twice.  Not sure if thats because we were so loud for most of the game, or whther they just didn't sing. 

I know it's a second home for them, and we're "small fry" but I would still expect the ones that turned up to be pretty loud.

Yes, we can always go toe to toe when it matters.  Over the years I think it's shocked oppo fans.  One odd game that stands out was the FA Cup Quarter Final v Brighton in 1986, which we won 2-0.  We had the whole uncovered Goldstone Lane side and end of the ground (10-12k?) and frightened the life out of the locals.  Biley was a sub for Brighton and absolutely shit himself

On the City forums they are taking the Michael saying that we only had two songs “yellows” and “oh when the Saints”. Better than the no songs from their end I suppose….

When you have more than 35,000 fans, spread around 3 sides and several tiers of a massive stadium, limiting what you all sing to a couple of songs, makes sense. If you started a variety of songs, it would just cause confusion and not everybody would sing the words at the same time or even join in. Anyway, I don't know why Man City are criticising us for only singing 2 songs, as in the first half they sang none and in the second half I only heard them sing one: that awful dirge of theirs: City, City followed by some mumbling.

The other thing about most of the other football songs that we didn't sing is that they are generic so the players may not even know who is singing them and people watching on TV definitely won't. With OWTS and Yellows, Yellows, everybody knew it was us.

When we had our best atmosphere at the Dell in the late 70s, it was always loudest when our fans all around the ground sang OWTS together; not a variety of different songs.

City fans online after the game were very defensive and resentful of the fact we outnumbered and   outsang them so they were being hypercritical of us. What happened off the pitch seemed to concern them more than the result.

The problem is not Wembley, it's the fact that they have been allowed to cheat for so long to get there 23 times in the last 10 seasons.

Met Tom Davis the comedian who was Barry Gale on some of our promo stuff a few years back at Gerrards Cross station. He had loads of good things to say about Saints, and put down a lot of that exposure to his rise to be quite well known now. He came up with some stuff about Sullivan at his beloved WHU but not that I could put on here!!!

Glad you remember it Nick, magnificent support that day, like a cavalry charge in the park on way back to station. I seem to remember a strike in the docks (or maybe general strike) which led to a lot of lads deciding on a group day out.

Walked to wembley central with my lad after the game, mixed fans all the way. Saw absolutely zero scuffles and no police were involved. So whatever it was must have been very isolated - could equally be complete horeshit from some very sad city fans.

Most city fans I met were pretty friendly and normal tbh. Didn't see any trouble the entire day.

Lived in  Manchester for a while many years ago. In those days , with city very much second best to united , their fans were genuine fans and nearly all local. Whereas at old Trafford you could see lots of ' home' fans coaches from Surrey etc.

In the early days of their success I was actually quite pleased for the long-suffering city fans I used to work with.  But nowadays they're swamped by the plastics. Summed up by the couple in city colours who came in on our tube carriage from where they lived in Central London, who I suspect had never been to Manchester.

A good mate of mine (unfortunately, died unexpectedly year before last) was a LUFC nut, and one of the main faces in the Leeds Service Crew in the 1980s / 90s - had settled down by the time I got to know him.  He always spoke very highly of Saints support, and said that a lot clubs forgot that Southampton was a major port town and industrial hub for southern England, and got caught out.  Blue few overrated and overhyped in that time period. As was mentioned above, when we have something to get behind the city always steps up.

We thought we might see some at Reading station on the way back but none. Couple of young saps commented 2-1 and “fuck off Southampton” to us, no idea who they supported, just being arseholes. But we were also approached by an Arsenal fan, on the way back from the Emirates commiserating on the result and that everyone at their game was really willing Saints to win. Quite a buzz there when hearing we’d taken the lead apparently. 
 

City fans we spoke to on the tube and on the way back were fine. Although there were some gobby fuckers on both sides also wanting to be heard.

Yes, that game was memorable for the support and day out. 
 

One lasting memory is that they were filling up the open terrace in sections, and would hold back people until each section was full. You had to enter from the higher level at the back of the terrace. Frank Sinatra ‘New York, New York’ was in the charts at the time and playing. Some bloke decided to break through the Police cordon at the back to walk down the empty terrace acting out a Sinatra impression with the music playing, strutting and high kicking for the chorus. It caused quite a response from the crowd.
 

The Police and stewards let him have his moment of fame and glory before letting the next batch of fans into his stage and terrace.

It was Saints' 14th FA Cup Semi-final. Before the Emiratis bought them, Man City had only been in 10, and only 10 of the current Premier League teams have appeared in more semi-finals than Saints.

It was our 3rd Wembley FA Cup semi final in 9 seasons , plus we'd had 2017 league cup final and recent play off final, we didn't need our Sat Navs to find Wembley, well trodden path

True, we are very much the nearly men of football. So often runners-up in leagues and cups or losing semi-finalists.

For a club with a fanbase our size (20th in the all-time average attendance table) we are, in terms of trophies won, possibly the most underachieving team in the country, but in terms of coming close to winning them, we are right up there.

But, things can change. Before Don Revie became their manager, Leeds United never even came close to winning a trophy; their greatest achievement was reaching one FA Cup Quarter-final. I'm hoping Tonda Eckert can do for us what Revie did for Leeds or Brian Clough did for Forest.

Don't think there can be any doubt that we fully rattled them and fundamentally they just didn't like it.

We were the far better fans (not even a question), and then we had the nerve to scare the crap out of them by keeping a clean sheet for 82min and taking a lead that left them needing a lucky deflected and bouncing shot to get back into the match. They almost got proper humbled and they know it, and that's just too much for their billy big bollocks "fans" online - pretty funny really 😄
