If Benficia come in £25 million with addons I reckon THB is gone.

Which in all honesty is shit with him potentially going and Charles leaving.

Who knows what will happen, maybe towards the end of the window we will go in for a few Premier league players on loan who are surplus to requirements to give us some additional experience.

But in all honestly we need:

Charles Replacment

THB Replacement

Stewart Replacement, I'm not convinced the lad on load from Man City is it. We need someone we can directly rotate with Larin who has similar attributes.

I wouldn't give a shit about losing the following:

Edoize, Baz, Ramsdale, Bereton, Archer, Larios, Sugawara.

I'd also like to see:

Romeo, Whitmsrsh, given chances

And also what about? Sufianu Sillah Dibaga, he had a good debut appearance  last season  looked bright.

The only thing I remember about him was just how bad a defender he was for us. Repeatedly committing stupid fouls or being caught out of position

Bullied by large, physical strikers too, just like Moore (who's first name I forget) in the opening game against Wrexham.

I think the losing THB as a dressing room leader is a very good point. lets not forget we've also lost Romeu who by all accounts was here for that role since last season.

Can’t see the family wanting to upsticks and move abroad. 😂

I believe his daughter is only around 8 months old so that is a fair point. He isn’t going anywhere for the kind of money being quoted so far anyway though.

I have a vague recollection of us being interested in that Anel guy last summer but could be misremembering that.

No, that's you being a bit Anel.

Never heard of him before that post and he doesn't look any good.

Having Roy Keane as a father in law is probably an incentive to move abroad.

It does seem like Benfica are being linked to a few CBs at the €20m price point: Tosin, THB, Ryan Flamingo and Tiago Gabriel.

Not sure if Marco Silva wants two new CBs or if our high valuation of THB might lead to them going for one of the others?

Sky Sports now running the story...

As you’ve said several times it’s just a continual recycling of the same story, often with someone adding their own twist on it. This bloke saying Saints have the edge in the race, whereas someone else’s take is that he prefers a return to Sheffield.

(Also saw someone saying it was a done deal for Sheff Utd!).

I’m going to be a ‘Les’ on this one and say I’m relaxed about it. We either sign him or don’t. But hope we don’t sell THB this summer

I know £17m is an opener but it’s a bit of a Michael take when we purchased him for £20m. £30m absolute minimum - I doubt they will stretch that far

Southampton have rejected a £17m bid from Benfica

I've heard of testing the water, but that's more like Google Earthing the location of the lake.

Eckert (and Spors) have spoken a lot about the importance of physicality (and height) in the spine of the team. Ronnie Edwards is under 6ft so I’m not surprised he wasn’t compatible for what they wanted. Ahmedhodzic has a reputation for being great on the ball and being able to step into midfield and spot a good pass, so that bodes well if the reporting today is accurate

I didn’t know either, but to be helpful here is his bio ( I’m not on X)… https://www.ben-jacobs.com/

Thanks.

Doesn’t look like someone with any real ‘inside’ knowledge, less than say Alfie House, so just putting his little bit on the story.

Let’s just move on from the THB speculation until there is something more substantial to speculate on.

He is pretty connected to be fair. More so the Alfie House (outside of Southampton), probably by some distance.

There is obviously interest/bids for THB. I guess it just depends on how much high clubs/Benfica would go.

His Bio isn’t great so hard to judge what reliable connections he has.

Benfica also need a full back now 👀

Some might argue the act of posting on X makes one inherently unreliable.

THBs long diagonal passes were a feature of Tonda ball and it fucks me off that we had the natural succesor to Taylor in Ronnie Edwards , we sold him way too cheap , it was clear we'd probably need another ball playing CB in the near future,

Personally, I saw nothing in Edwards to suggest he was a potential replacement for THB.

No one is paying what we want for THB, surely. I see him as the type to stay professional after bids are rejected. I also don't see him as the Lallana "My head's already in [insert club here]" agitator type. I'd put money on him staying.

Yes please - he was decent for the Blades and is bang at his peak.

Actually bumped into a Saints employee and I will 100% not say where or what role they have at the club.

Our top four players want to go as they want to better themselves elsewhere. The club will only sell them if the right offers come on.

One has gone already while it’s obvious THB is getting the attention at the moment.

Expect Leo and Jander to be off next but I personally can’t see them entertaining any offers from anyone right now unless it blows the bloody door down.

I suppose when you have a famous father in law who’s played the game at the very top level asking you why are you still playing for little Southampton again this season then it makes sense he wants moving on.

Agreed that if we have to sell THB then this guy is a very decent replacement.

given how long he has been here, I suspect anything over 6 or 7M is a profit.

True but surely his value has gone up since we signed him?

Signed on a 4yr deal for a fee of £20m, so his balance is £10m as of the start of this season. If we got offered £30m (which seemingly is the sort of number we're looking for) then it's +£20m in the accounts (although you'd have a cut going to MCFC)
