eurosaint Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 (edited) Just heard on Talksport that Southend have gone into administration and start on minus 10 in Lge 1 next season ! That means that we do not start at the very bottom (alphabetically !). Great news, eh ? Edited 30 April, 2009 by eurosaint Scouse git on talksport has a funny accent hence I got the team wrong ! Colinjb Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 To confirm, it definitely IS Stockport. Not Sarfend. Just checked SSN. Considering their league position (And 13 points margin of safety over the bottom 4) they could actually take the hit this year.
Dan Johnson Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 To confirm, it definitely IS Stockport. Not Sarfend. Just checked SSN. i've always had a softspot for Stockport ever since I saw them pull off a giant killing in a cup comp with dave Jones as manager and Paul Jones in goal... got a feeling Lee Todd played for them as well? Anyway, sorry to hear that... although only another 22 clubs to fall into administration and we'll be top by christmas haha
RinNY Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 I thought the 10 oint deduction was a crazy and inquitous idea hen it was applied to fiscally strapped clubs in the past; I thionk it is iniquitous applied to us; I do not see it as great news that it may be applied to any other clubs. It's a classic case of taking a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. The kind of fiscal manipulations by the likes of Leicester, or irresponsibility of the Leeds variety, could and should have been dealt with on an individual club by club and case by case basis, not by creating this absurd punishment for any and every club that hits hard times. Far from protecting fair competition -- which is how that fool Mawhinney justifies it -- it demolishes fair competition!

Bailey Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 Confirmed on SSN that the 10-point deduction will take effect from next season. eurosaint Posted 30 April, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 April, 2009 It really is a case of kicking a man while he is down ! As a 'catch all' policy it is nonsense IMO, surely if a club seeks to gain an advantage then fair enough but in Saints case I cannot see how we used the system to better our competitors ?? Ps. We still won't start bottom as Stockport are alphabetically inferior !

You were the one that started making this personal...."get over yourself ffs". I used the term "we" meaning Saints fans because thats what we are on this forum. The post was on a Saints forum meaning we - not me or you as you took this so personal. Please explain the hypocritical bit....all I am saying is that I hate it when clubs go into admin and should be helped in this climate not punished and the fact that they start with -10 points is a further hindurance to them. Euro I accept that post in the fact you were glad it wasn't just us but again clubs need help.

slickmick Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 Careful how you use "WE". Most of us don't like seeing other clubs suffer either. Will be a joke next season. Loads of clubs will be holding on til the summer then assessing their finances. Could have half the league on -10. Lets be honest here, clubs have got away with out penalty in the past and are now looking down on us. Dont see them showing to much concern or guilt, so neither will I, if we survive another relegation next season because 5 or 6 teams have had to start off the same as us. That might also require the FA, Sky and co to reconsider how funds are distributed through the lower leagues.

Rut Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 As a Saints fan I hope every team in League 1 next season gets docked way more that 10 points. We could then start top of the league - not bottom. Seriously though - the more teams that get docked points the better. Gives us a better chance of staying up. I've seen people on here are analysing if we can make the play-offs - hey, let's get out of the bottom 4 first!

Could have half the league on -10. Interesting point this - I wonder if there is a domino effect. If several others do go into admin over the Summer, we might see a tidal wave, because if, say, six clubs start on -10, then a seventh club taking the hit might consider that it doesn't spell relegation certainty. If SSN are right though, Stokport lose ten points this season (confirmed in the last few seconds).

Are the Football League making it up as they bloody go along or what!? Surely as they've missed the deadline for this season, it HAS to go onto next season?? The rule is a bit complex, but basically fair. If you go into admin before the March deadline, you lsoe the points there are then, in the current season, irrespective of where you stand in the league. If you go into admin after this stage, you lose the points in the present season IF this makes a material difference, otherwise they are carried over to next season. This is to stop what happeend to Leeds a coupel fo years back, they went into admin when already relegated, assuming they coudl take the hit then - and not caring that they were simply relegated by an additional ten points. Because Saints have been relegated irrespective of the ten point penalty, we take the hit next year. The annoying thing is that if we had gone into admin a few days earlier (before the deadline), we would have taken the penalty this year and could have started League One with a clean sheet. Sky charge a fortune just so that we can watch the top 4! If they didnt have the prem and CL there is no way they would charge as much to watch A1 and Rugby and Tenis. I might cancel mine and get Sultana instead. Bit of footy and a shed load of Ice Hockey. It will be years till Saints are back on Sky and by then if enough people have left them there price might come down to be more resonable.
Michelle Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 Well this is the thing isn't it - Stockport getting the hit now doesn't make a blind bit of difference materially - they stay in the same league, albeit a few positions lower. So in that respect, it's hardly a "punishment" if they get them taken off now! I can completely understand why we are getting ours next season - I cannot understand how Stockport can possibly get theirs this season though. saintjay77 Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 If there points get taken off this season then would that strengthen our case to apeal?
